Getting Started
To start using your NVR, you will need the following:
- A high-definition TV capable of displaying 720p or 1080p video.
- A router with a broadband internet connection.
- A mobile device (Android or iOS) to download the mobile app.
This installation guide will assist you in getting your NVR up and running as soon as possible. To ensure nothing was damaged during shipping, we recommend connecting everything and testing it before performing a permanent installation.
NVR Rear Panel Overview
The rear panel of the Swann NVR features various ports for connecting peripherals and network devices. The 16-channel model includes additional ports.
Key Ports on the Rear Panel:
- 1. Power Input: Connect the 48V power adapter here. ?
- 2. Power Switch: Press this switch to turn your NVR on or off. ?
- 3. Audio Output: For connecting to a stereo or amplifier. This is not required when using the HDMI port. ?
- 4. VGA Port: Connect this to your monitor with a VGA input (VGA cable not supplied). This is not required when using the HDMI port. ?️
- 5. HDMI Port: Connect this to your TV with a HDMI input (HDMI cable supplied). ?
- 6. USB Port: Connect your mouse here. ?
- 7. Ethernet Port (WAN): Connect this to your router so your NVR can connect to the internet. ?
- 8. Camera Inputs: Using the provided Ethernet cables, connect your cameras here. ? (Labeled CAM1-CAM8 for an 8-channel model)
- 9. Power LED: Indicates your NVR has power. ?
- 10. Hard Drive LED: Flashes when the hard drive is active. ?
- 11. USB Ports: Connect a USB flash drive to either port to copy recorded events or to perform a firmware upgrade. ?
Note: The 16 channel model has an additional audio input and a USB 3.0 port at the rear.
Keep your NVR free from obstructions to maintain optimal temperature.
Connection Steps
Step 1: Overview
To start using your NVR, you need the following:
- A high-definition TV capable of displaying 720p or 1080p video.
- A router with a broadband internet connection.
- A mobile device (Android or iOS) to download the mobile app.
Step 3: Connect Your Cameras
Connect the supplied Ethernet cable from your camera to the camera's Ethernet port. Then, plug the other end of the cable into one of the NVR's camera input ports (labeled 8 on the rear panel diagram).

Step 4: Connect to Your Home Network
Connect a supplied Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port (labeled 7 on the rear panel diagram) on your NVR. Connect the other end of the cable to a spare port on your router or Wi-Fi access point. Do not proceed to the next step until this connection is made.

Step 5: Connect Your Mouse
Connect the supplied mouse to one of the USB ports (labeled 6 or 11 on the rear panel diagram) located on the rear of the NVR. For copying recorded events or performing firmware upgrades, connect a USB flash drive (not included) to the front USB ports.

Step 6: Connect to Your TV
Connect the supplied HDMI cable to the HDMI port (labeled 5 on the rear panel diagram) on the NVR. Connect the other end to a spare HDMI input on your TV. You may need to press the A/V button on your TV's remote to select the correct HDMI input.

Step 7: Connect Your Power Adapter
First, connect the supplied power adapter (labeled 1 on the diagram) to the NVR's power input port (labeled 2 on the diagram). Next, connect the power cable to the power adapter. Finally, plug the power cable into a power outlet and press the power button (labeled 3 on the diagram) to turn on the NVR.

This product contains a coin/button cell battery. If the cell battery is swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns and can lead to death. Keep away from babies and small children at all times.
- If the battery is swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, immediately seek medical help.
- Risk of explosion if an incorrect battery is used.
- Dispose of used battery properly.
