Updating EXO Handheld Firmware (v2)
Quick Start Guide
Please take the following steps to update your EXO Handheld (v2) to the latest firmware package. If you have any questions, please contact info@ysi.com for assistance.
1. Download the Handheld Updater Package
2. Extract the Downloaded Files
Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file to a known location on your computer. The following files will be present:
- EXO-Handheld-Update
- ysiserial
- ysiserial
3. Connect the EXO Handheld
Turn on the EXO Handheld Display and connect the device to your computer via USB Cable. If this is the first time performing a firmware update, install the device driver before continuing. The updater program will not recognize your Handheld without the driver. The driver only needs to be installed once per computer.
4. Run the Updater Program
Open the folder where the update package was extracted and open the program ‘EXO-Handheld-Update’. The program will automatically scan for and update the handheld connected to the computer.
During the update: Please do not close the program, shut off your computer, disconnect the handheld, or interact with the handheld in any way. This process should take approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
After update: Once the update is finished, exit the application by clicking the 'Exit' button. If you started the update program before connecting the handheld, you may need to click the 'Rescan and Update' button to start the update.

Driver Installation Guide
If this is the first time performing a firmware update, install the device driver before continuing, otherwise the updater program will not recognize your Handheld. The driver only needs to be installed once per computer. If you have any questions, please contact info@ysi.com for assistance.
1. Open Device Manager
Open the 'Run' dialog box by pressing and holding the 'Windows' key, then pressing the 'R' key. In the 'Run' dialog box, type 'devmgmt.msc' without quotes and press the 'OK' button.
2. Locate the Handheld in Device Manager
In Device Manager, look for your Handheld under 'Other devices' (it may appear as 'smxUSBD Serial Emulator').
3. Install the Handheld Drivers
Right-click on the Handheld (or the 'smxUSBD Serial Emulator') to bring up the context menu, and then click 'Update Driver Software...'.
4. Complete the Driver Installation Dialogs
Click 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
Click 'Browse' to locate the driver files. Find and select the folder where the updater program has been extracted to, then press 'OK'.
Click 'Next' to install the driver.
Wait for the installation to complete, and then click 'Close'. The firmware updater should now recognize the EXO Handheld.
