Safety Information
CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! DO NOT OPEN!
To prevent electric shock, do not remove covers or other parts, or open the unit. Use high-quality professional speaker cables (1/4" TS standard cables and twist-locking plug cables).
To prevent fire and electric shock, do not install this unit in wet or humid locations. Avoid getting water on the unit and do not place items containing water, such as vases, on it.
This mark indicates high voltage inside. Touching it may cause electric shock.
Important information regarding handling and care is provided in the accompanying manual. Please read it carefully before use.
- Read the manual thoroughly.
- Keep the manual safe.
- Heed all warnings.
- Follow all instructions.
- Do not use this unit near water.
- Always use a dry cloth for cleaning.
- Install the unit in a location that does not interfere with ventilation, following the manual's instructions.
- Keep the unit away from heat sources such as electric heaters, heat-generating appliances, stoves, cooking surfaces, or amplifiers.
- Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has three prongs: two blades and a grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong is for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician to replace the obsolete outlet.
- Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, especially at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Ensure all equipment is properly grounded.
- If using a power strip or extension cord, ensure it is easily accessible and can be quickly disconnected.
- Use only accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
- Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
- Refer servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
- If the product comes with a power cord, use only the supplied power cord. This cord is not intended for use with any other product.
- Do not install in a confined space, such as a bookcase.
- Do not place any naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, on the unit.
- Please consider the environment when disposing of batteries. Dispose of batteries in designated collection points.
- Use this unit in temperate climates with a maximum ambient temperature of 45°C (113°F).

Setup and Connections
The Behringer S32 is a digital stage box that connects to a mixing console and other audio equipment using AES50 networking. The following diagrams illustrate typical connection scenarios.
Diagram 1: Basic Setup Overview
This diagram shows a typical setup connecting the Behringer S32 digital stage box to a mixing console (e.g., X32), personal monitoring systems (P16-M, P16-D), and audio outputs (speakers, monitors).
Connections include:
- X32 console to S32 via CAT-5e shielded Ethernet cable (AES50 connection).
- P16-M personal monitors connected to P16-D distribution unit, which connects to the S32 ULTRANET port.
- DI box, keyboard, and microphones connected to S32 inputs.
- Active speakers (B215D, F1320D) and subwoofer (B1800D PRO) connected to S32 outputs.
Diagram 2: Connection Scenarios
These diagrams illustrate different ways to connect the S32, including with one or two consoles, and with an additional S16 stage box.
X32 and S32 Connection
This setup shows an X32 console at Front-of-House (FOH) connected via shielded CAT-5e cable to an S32 on stage. The S32 is also shown connected to an X32 at Side-stage. Routing of signals is configured on the X32 console's 'Routing/AES50 Output' page.
S32 with Two Consoles
This configuration connects an S32 to two X32 consoles, one at FOH and one at Side-stage. The FOH console typically acts as the clock master.
S32 with S16 and Console
This setup shows an S32 connected to an X32 console and an S16 digital stage box. The S32 and S16 are linked via AES50, with the FOH console as the clock master.
Input/Output Mapping Tables: The tables detail the mapping of local inputs and AES50 channels to console inputs and outputs for various configurations, including S32 with two consoles and S32 with S16. They specify how signals from stage inputs and console outputs are routed through the AES50 network.
Controls and Rear Panel
Front Panel Overview
The front panel of the Behringer S32 features 32 XLR inputs, each with a PUSH button and a '+' indicator. It also shows 16 XLR outputs, a MUTE ALL button, and the Behringer logo.
- Input channels are numbered 1-32.
- Output channels are numbered 1-16.
- Indicators include PHANTOM, MUTE ALL, and AES50 SYNC.
Rear Panel Overview
The rear panel includes the AC POWER input, USB port (Type B), AES50 ports A and B (Neutrik etherCON compatible), ULTRANET port (RJ45), ADAT OUT (Toslink), AES/EBU output, and MIDI IN/OUT (5-pin DIN).
Rear Panel Connections and Functions:
- 1. Phantom Power LED: Indicates when 48V phantom power is supplied to a specific channel.
- 2. Midas-designed Mic/Line Inputs: Balanced XLR male connectors for connecting microphones or line-level sources.
- 3. MUTE ALL Button: Mutes all outputs for safe cable connection/disconnection when the PA system is on. Press and hold while connecting XLR inputs 1-32. Releasing the button reactivates the inputs, indicated by the LED turning off.
- 4. AES50 SYNC LED: Illuminates green when clock synchronization is properly established on an AES50 port. Red indicates no synchronization, and no light means AES50 is not connected.
- 5. XLR Outputs 1-16: Balanced XLR female connectors outputting signals 1-16 from AES50 Port A.
- 6. POWER Switch: Toggles the unit's power on/off.
- 7. USB Input: Connect a USB Type B plug for firmware updates via PC.
- 8. AES50 Ports A and B: Neutrik etherCON compatible terminals for connecting to the SuperMAC digital multichannel network via shielded Cat-5e Ethernet cables. Note: The clock master is typically the digital mixer, but must connect to AES50 Port A, with additional stage boxes connected to Port B.
- 9. ULTRANET Port: Sends 16 AES50 channels (33-48) to the Behringer P16 personal monitoring system via shielded CAT5 single cable.
- 10. ADAT OUT (ADAT Output) Jack: Transmits AES50 channels 17-32 to external equipment via optical cable.
- 11. AES/EBU Output: Transmits AES50 channels 13/14 and 15/16 to equipment with digital inputs.
- 12. MIDI IN/OUT Jacks: Connect standard 5-pin MIDI cables for MIDI communication with the X32 console.

Notes on AES50 Connections: Before using the product in live performance or recording situations, ensure that specific AES50 connections provide stable operation. The maximum distance for AES50 CAT5 connections is 100m/330 feet. To ensure a safety margin, consider using the shortest possible connections. Combining more than two cables with extension connectors may reduce reliability and maximum distance between AES50 products. Unshielded (UTP) cables may function well in many applications but carry an increased risk for ESD issues. It is recommended to use cables of similar quality, ensuring all products operate as specified with 50m Klark Teknik NCAT5E-50M. Klark Teknik also offers the cost-effective DN9610 AES50 Repeater or DN9620 AES50 Extender for situations requiring very long cable runs.
