Behringer SD16/SD8 Quick Start Guide
I/O Stage Box with MIDAS Preamps, AES50 Networking, and ULTRANET Monitoring
Safety First
Always prioritize safety. Terminals marked with a lightning bolt symbol [⚡] indicate risk of electric shock; use only high-quality cables. Internal voltages are dangerous. Follow all instructions, keep away from water, ensure ventilation, and never open the unit. Refer servicing to qualified personnel. Dispose of the product responsibly according to WEEE directives.
Step 1: Hook-Up
Connect your SD16/SD8 stage box to your digital mixer, personal monitors (P16-M), and other audio gear using CAT5e cables for AES50 networking and ULTRANET personal monitoring. Diagrams show typical connections with equipment like the X32 mixer.
Step 2: Controls & Connections
- MIDAS Mic/Line Inputs: Balanced XLR and 1/4" combo jacks. High-impedance inputs on specific channels for guitars/basses.
- XLR Outputs: Balanced female XLR connectors.
- POWER LED: Indicates power status.
- AES50 LEDs: Show connection status (green for sync, red for no sync).
- ULTRANET Ports: Connect P16-M personal mixers; provide phantom power.
- USB Port: For firmware updates via PC.
- AES50 Ports (A/B): For SuperMAC digital networking via shielded Cat-5e (etherCON). Port A for clock master, Port B for additional stageboxes.
- OUTPUT Select Switch: Routes groups of 8 AES50-A channels to physical XLR outputs.
- POWER Switch: Turns the unit on/off.
Step 3: Channel Management
Signals route via CAT-5e (up to 100m). Clock source is on AES50 Port A. ULTRANET signals use AES50-A channels 33-48. Analog outputs carry AES50-A channels 1-8, 9-16, or 17-24, selectable via a switch.
Chaining units sends signals to the next unit's AES50 Port B, potentially shifting channels. The output select switch can manage signals from multiple stageboxes.
MIDI control of head amp gain and phantom power is possible with compatible master units (S16/DL16) when not using AES50 control. MIDI channel 1 for master, channel 2 for slave.
Routing tables detail signal flow and channel assignments for SD16 and SD8 units.
