Introduction
This manual provides step-by-step instructions for updating the firmware to version 2.0.300 for the following Alpine Multimedia Receivers: iLX-F511, iLX-F509, iLX-507, i509-WRA-JK, and i509-WRA-JL. For further assistance, please consult the owner's manual available at www.alpine-usa.com/support or call 1-800-TECH-101.
This firmware update addresses the following issues:
- Improved wired and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.
- Resolved echo issues during phone calls when using preouts for external amplifiers.
- Fixed flickering camera screen when selecting the camera from the AUX screen.
- Addressed CarPlay disappearing from the Function Select popup when the CarPlay connection is changed to another iPhone.
- Enabled RUX-HO2 connectivity with wireless CarPlay.
- Added Tidal support.
- Included OEM SiriusXM integration.
- Corrected the issue where Auto Presets for the FM tuner were not showing the correct frequency.
Caution!
- Do NOT turn off the vehicle's ignition or the head unit's power switch during the update. If your vehicle automatically shuts down the ignition (ACC) when the engine is not running, ensure the engine remains running throughout the update process.
- Do NOT remove the USB flash drive while the update is in progress.
- Do NOT press any buttons during the update.
- Do NOT perform the update while driving.
Failure to adhere to these cautions may result in damage to the head unit.
Step 1: Format The Flash Drive
1-1 Only flash drives formatted to FAT32 can be read by the head unit. Ensure your flash drive is formatted to FAT32, not NTFS, exFAT, or other formats.
1-2 In Windows, format the drive by right-clicking it in File Explorer and selecting 'Format'.
1-3 The update files are slightly over 1GB. Use a flash drive with at least 2GB of capacity.
Step 2: Copy The Update Files To The Flash Drive
2-1 When downloading the file, ensure your web browser does not have the 'Open when done' option checked, as this may prevent proper download. Extract the downloaded files using a program like WinZip to your computer. If you do not have a program that handles zip files, you will need to install one.
2-2 Once extracted, you will see a folder named 'Update'. Copy this folder to your flash drive by using copy and paste or drag and drop. Important: Do not change the file names or folder names within the 'Update' folder, as the head unit will not recognize them. Ensure you copy the entire 'Update' folder, not just the files inside it.
Notes:
- Do not store any other files on the flash drive besides the 'Update' folder.
- Some manufacturers' USB memory may not be compatible. If you encounter issues, try a different brand of USB memory.
Step 3: Copy The Update Files To The Head Unit
3-1 Plug the formatted flash drive into the USB connector of the head unit. The USB extension cable is typically routed from the back of the head unit to the glove box or center console. Use only the black USB port, as the gray port is for charging only.
3-2 Turn on the vehicle's ignition to power the head unit. Do NOT turn off the ignition or the head unit's power while the system is updating.
3-3 Navigate to the settings menu. To access settings, turn the parking brake on, then off, and then on again. Go to SYSTEM > ABOUT > SOFTWARE UPDATE, and press the UPDATE button.
3-4 Ensure the flash drive is connected. The system will check the update file and display the current and new software versions. Press UPDATE. The update process will take approximately 5-7 minutes. Upon completion, press OK, and the system will reboot.
3-5 After the system reboots, verify the SOFTWARE VERSION is 2.0.300 in the ABOUT settings. Then, navigate to CLEAR ALL SETTINGS and press reset. Confirm the warning message by clicking OK twice. This action will restore all settings to their factory defaults.
Troubleshooting Guide
Symptom | Possible Cause | Remedy |
---|---|---|
Head unit will not read flash memory. | The downloaded software was not unzipped. | Refer to Step 2. Unzip the .zip file using your preferred program (e.g., WinZip, WinRAR, Izarc). |
There are other files on the flash drive. | Ensure the flash drive is freshly formatted (Step 1) and contains only the downloaded files as shown in Step 2. | |
The file folder name was changed or put into a different folder. | Make sure only the 'Update' folder, as shown in Step 2, is copied. | |
The USB port was installed incorrectly. | Test the USB port by connecting an iPod or flash drive with MP3s to see if it plays music. If not, try plugging the flash drive directly into the head unit without an extension cable. Ensure you are using the black USB port. | |
File does not download. It constantly gets to 99% and restarts. | The web browser's auto-open option is blocking the download. | In the browser's file settings, disable the auto-open option. Alternatively, try using a different browser. |
Network issue. | Check router settings or WiFi connection. Try a different network or a wired Ethernet connection. |
