Caution!
Important: Do NOT turn off the vehicle's ignition or the head unit's power switch during the update. If your vehicle's ignition may shut down automatically after a period of inactivity, leave the engine running.
- Do NOT remove the USB flash memory during the update.
- Do NOT press any buttons during the update.
- Do NOT update while driving.
Failure to follow these cautions may result in damage to the head unit.
Step 1: Format The Flash Drive
- Only flash drives formatted to FAT32 can be read by the head unit. Ensure your drive is not formatted to NTFS, exFAT, or other formats.
- To format the drive in Windows, right-click the drive in File Explorer and select 'Format'.
- The update files are over 1GB, so use a USB drive with at least 2GB capacity.
Visual Description: The first image shows a Windows File Explorer window with a USB drive selected, displaying options like 'Open', 'Format', and 'Eject'. The second image shows the format dialog box with FAT32 selected as the file system.
Step 2: Copy The Update Files To The Flash Drive
- When downloading the file, ensure your web browser does not have the 'Open when done' option checked, as this can interfere with the download. Extract the downloaded .zip file using a program like WinZip to your computer.
- Once extracted, you will find a folder named 'Update'. Copy this folder to your flash drive. Note: Do NOT rename the folder or the files within it, as the head unit will not recognize them. Ensure you copy the entire folder, not just the files inside.
Visual Description: The first image shows a web browser download progress bar for 'Update.zip'. The second image shows a File Explorer window with the 'Update' folder selected on a USB drive, and the 'Update' folder containing files like 'A.23.D0.05.00.01.00.pak' and 'collective_sign_info.dat'.
Notes:
- Do NOT store any other files on the flash drive besides the 'Update' folder.
- Some manufacturer's USB memory may not be compatible. Try a different brand if issues occur.
Step 3: Copy The Update Files To The Head Unit
- Plug the flash drive into the USB connector of the head unit. Use the black USB port, as the gray port is for charging only. The USB extension cable may route to the glove box or center console.
- Turn on the vehicle's ignition to power the head unit. Do NOT turn off the ignition or head unit power during the update.
- Navigate to the settings menu: Go to SYSTEM > ABOUT > SOFTWARE UPDATE, and press the UPDATE button.
- Ensure the flash drive is connected. The system will display the current and new software versions. Press UPDATE. The update process takes approximately 5-7 minutes. Press OK when finished, and the system will reboot.
- After the update, check the SOFTWARE VERSION in the ABOUT settings to confirm it is 5.0.001. Then, navigate to CLEAR ALL SETTINGS and press reset. Confirm the reset prompts by pressing OK. This will restore the unit to factory default settings.
Visual Description: The images show the sequence of screens on the head unit: 'Connect USB flash drive', 'Checking the update file...', 'Software Update' screen showing current and new versions, confirmation of update completion and reboot, and finally the 'Reset all information?' and 'Are you sure you wish to initialise?' prompts.
Troubleshooting Guide
Symptom | Possible Cause | Remedy |
---|---|---|
Head unit will not read flash memory. | The downloaded software was not unzipped. | Refer to Step 2. Unzip the .zip file using your preferred program (e.g., WinZip, WinRAR, Izarc). |
There are other files on the flash drive. | Format the flash drive (Step 1) and ensure only the downloaded files are present. | |
The file folder name was changed or put into a different folder. | Ensure only the 'Update' folder shown in Step 2 is copied. | |
The USB port was installed incorrectly. | Test the USB port with an iPod or flash drive containing MP3s. Try plugging the flash drive directly into the head unit without an extension cable. Use the black USB port. | |
File does not download. It constantly gets to 99% and restarts. | The web browser has an auto-open option blocking the download. | In browser settings, turn off the auto-open option. Try a different browser. |
Network issue. | Check router settings or WiFi connection. Try a different network or a wired Ethernet connection. |
