1. Prepare the door and check dimensions
If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and the complete door drilling instructions available at www.kwikset.com/doorprep.
- A Measure to confirm that the hole in the door is either 2-1/8 in (54 mm) or 1-1/2 in (38 mm).
- B Measure to confirm that the backset is either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 in (60 or 70 mm).
- C Measure to confirm that the hole in the door edge is 1 in (25 mm).
- D Measure to confirm that the door is between 1-3/8 and 1-3/4 in (35 mm and 44 mm) thick.
Note: Additional door preparation may be required for doors with 1-1/2 in (38 mm) holes. Consult the deadbolt drilling instructions at www.kwikset.com/doorprep.
2. Install the latch and strike
- A Hold the latch in front of the door hole, with the latch face flush against the door edge. If the rectangular shaped hole is centered in the door hole, no adjustment is required. Rotate latch face as shown to extend latch if needed.
- B If the door edge is chiseled, install the latch with supplied screws, ensuring the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch. If the door edge is not chiseled, use a flathead screwdriver to remove the latch face, grip the latch, twist the collar off, and install the drive-in collar. Align tabs with holes in the collar and ensure it snaps into place. Pull the collar to test for a tight fit. Install the latch in the door with a wood block and hammer, ensuring the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch.
- C Install the strike on the door frame, ensuring the hole in the door frame is drilled a minimum of 1 in (25 mm) deep. Ensure the latch bolt is fully retracted (in the unlocked position).
3. Install the exterior keypad
- A Determine the diameter of the hole in the door. An adapter ring is required for installation if the diameter is 1-1/2 in (38 mm). The adapter ring is not needed if the diameter is 2-1/8 in (54 mm).
- B Use the supplied screws for the exterior assembly.
- C Install the exterior keypad and mounting plate. Rotate the flat blade to a horizontal position to match the latch orientation. Ensure the latch is RETRACTED. The cable goes underneath the latch. The TOP of the mounting plate should be visible and kept parallel to the edge of the door. Support the exterior assembly during mounting plate installation. Route the cable through the center hole, then push the cable into the bottom hole. Tighten screws evenly, but DO NOT overtighten. Ensure the flat blade is centered in the mounting plate hole. Insert the key and test the latch. Adjust screws if the latch does not extend or retract smoothly. Remove the key when finished and ensure the latch bolt is FULLY EXTENDED.
4. Install the interior assembly
- A Remove the interior cover from the interior assembly. Check to make sure the latch bolt is in the extended/locked position. Ensure the turnpiece shaft is rotated as shown; if it is not pointing up, rotate the turnpiece until you hear a click.
- B Secure the interior assembly onto the mounting plate. Connect the cable, ensuring a tight connection. Insert the flat blade into the turnpiece shaft.
- C Remove the interior cover from the interior assembly.
- D Ensure you are using the correct screws, as using incorrect screws will damage the product.
