Midland BTR1 Advanced Pocket Guide

This pocket guide provides essential information for the Midland BTR1 Advanced Bluetooth intercom system.

ON/OFF

Description of Buttons

The Midland BTR1 Advanced features several buttons for operation:

Switching On

To switch the device ON:

Press and hold the Control Button for 3 seconds. The device will emit a Beep and the LED will Flashes.

Switching Off

To switch the device OFF:

Press and hold the Control Button and Vol + button together for 3 seconds. The device will emit Flashes and a notification jingle before turning off.

Pairings

Description of Buttons

The Midland BTR1 Advanced supports various pairing configurations:

Accessing Settings

To access the device's settings, press and hold the Control Button for 7 seconds. If the button is pressed for less than 7 seconds, the device will turn on instead. If this occurs, repeat the procedure.

When the device is OFF and you press the Control Button for 7 seconds:

Pairing Procedures

Phone/GPS/TFT Pairing

Status: Settings (steady red LED).

  1. Press VOL+ for 3 seconds. The device will emit a Beep and then Flashes.
  2. On your phone, GPS, or TFT device, search for and select "BTR1 Adv.".
  3. The device will emit a Beep and confirm with a 1-second signal.

Note: To pair a second device in mono audio, repeat the same procedure but press VOL-.

OBI Intercom Pairing

Status: Settings (steady red LED).

  1. Press any button for 3 seconds. The LED will Flashes.
  2. Confirm with a 1-second signal.

Follow the pairing procedure with the specific OBI intercom device (refer to its instructions).

Midland Intercom Pairing

Status: Settings (steady red LED).

  1. On the first Midland unit, press any button for 3 seconds. The LED will Flashes and confirm with a 1-second signal.
  2. On the second Midland unit, press any button for 3 seconds. The LED will Flashes and confirm with a 1-second signal.

Other Brand Intercom Pairing (Universal Intercom)

Status: Settings (steady red LED).

  1. Press any button for 3 seconds. The LED will Flashes and confirm with a 1-second signal.

Follow the phone pairing procedure (refer to the specific device's instructions).

To exit Settings mode, press the Control Button twice.

Attention: A new pairing on the same button overwrites the previous one.

Conference Pairing (4 Units)

Status: Settings (steady red LED).

The Conference feature allows simultaneous communication among Midland units. Units must be paired in a "chain" configuration:

Exit Settings Mode / Interrupt Pairing

Status: Settings (steady red LED).

Press the Control Button twice. The LED will show blinking changes.

Operating Modes

The Midland BTR1 Advanced supports three primary operating modes:

Note: Phone mode and Intercom mode are enabled only when your intercom is paired to other devices.

Selecting the Operating Mode

Status: Unit ON.

To change the operating mode, press and hold the Control Button for 3 seconds, or keep it pressed to scroll quickly through modes.

The device will emit a Beep indicating the current operating mode status.

Note: Briefly pressing Vol + and Vol - together will announce the selected operating mode.

Intercom Mode Functions Description

Press once the keys to activate:

Shortcut: In Intercom mode, press the buttons twice for phone functionalities.

Open/Close Intercom Manually

Status: Intercom mode.

Press once the button used for the Midland/OBI pairing to open or close the intercom connection.

The device will emit a Beep and then Flashes.

Note: To communicate with Rider 2 or Rider 3, repeat the procedure by pressing the Up Button (Rider 2) or Down Button (Rider 3) respectively.

Operating Modes - Continued

Intercom Mode

Open/Close Universal Intercom

Status: Intercom mode.

Press once the button used for the Universal Intercom pairing to open or close the connection.

The device will emit a Beep and then Flashes.

Note: To open/close audio from a different brand device, use the voice call command (for some models, sending the voice call command twice may be necessary).

Open/Close Intercom by Voice

Status: In all modes.

Say "Hi" to activate voice control.

The device will provide a Voice announcement, then Flashes. After 1 minute of silence, the intercom closes.

The device emits a Beep.

Note: Voice activation is possible only with an intercom paired to the Control Button-Rider 1 (VOX must be active).

Activate/Deactivate VOX

Status: In all modes (intercom communication MUST be closed).

Press and hold the Control Button and Up Button for 7 seconds.

The device will provide a Voice announcement.

Enable/Disable Conference

Status: In all modes (audio must be closed).

To enable or disable Conference mode, keep pressed for 3 seconds at the same time the Control Button on every paired intercom.

The device will provide a Voice announcement and indicate the Connection status.

Note: In Conference mode, devices paired with Vol+/Vol- are temporarily disconnected.

Operating Modes - Phone & Radio

Phone Mode

Functions Description

Press once the buttons to activate:

Shortcut: In Phone mode, press the buttons twice for Intercom functionalities.

To Make a Call

Status: Phone mode (no audio active).

Press once the Control Button.

This action can trigger:

Note: If your phone is paired with Vol-, press the Down Button to initiate calls or access voice commands.

To Answer/End/Reject a Call

Status: All modes.

Note: If your phone is paired with Vol-, press the Down Button for these actions.

Music

Status: Phone mode.

Music Share

Status: All modes.

The device will provide a Voice announcement.

Radio Mode

Function Description

Press once the buttons:

Shortcut: In Radio mode, press the buttons twice for Intercom functionalities.

FM Radio Operations

Status: Radio mode.

Note: When the FM radio is muted, pressing the Up or Down buttons will activate the voice call function.
