HYP Ultracom by Midland
This guide provides instructions for the HYP Ultracom Bluetooth 5.0 helmet communication system.
Power On/Off
To turn the device on: Press and hold the [power button] for 3 seconds. A melody will play, and the LED will be solid for 1 second.
To turn the device off: Press and hold the [power button] for 3 seconds. A beep will be heard, and the LED will be solid for 3 seconds.
Volume Control
While listening to an audio source:
- Press and hold the [plus button] to increase volume.
- Press and hold the [minus button] to decrease volume.
A beep indicates volume level changes. Note: Volume levels for music, phone calls, and intercom are independent and can be adjusted while listening.
Bluetooth Pairing
Pairing with Phone, TFT, GPS (Mono/Stereo):
Press and hold the [Forward Button] for 7 seconds (or the relevant pairing button). The LED will blink. On your phone, GPS, or TFT, select "ULTRACOM by Midland". Once connected, the LED will be solid for 3 seconds. To pair a second device, press the function button again during the pairing process.
Pairing with Midland Intercom, OBI, Universal Intercom:
Midland Intercom: Press and hold the [Back Button] for 7 seconds (or the relevant pairing button). The LED will blink, followed by a beep. The LED will be solid for 3 seconds when connected.
OBI Intercom: Follow the pairing instructions specific to the OBI intercom device.
Universal Intercom (e.g., Cardo): Follow the pairing instructions specific to the universal intercom device.
Pairing with Universal Intercom (VOX): Press and hold the [Control Button] for 7 seconds (or the relevant pairing button). The LED will blink, followed by a beep. The LED will be solid for 3 seconds when connected.
Important Note: You can pair a maximum of 3 intercoms (Midland, OBI, or other brands), one for each button. A new pairing on the same button will overwrite the previous one.
Bluetooth Connections and Device Reset: Press and hold both buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. A melody will play, and the LED will be solid for 3 seconds.
Note: The audio source paired with the Control button (music or navigation prompts) remains in the background during an active intercom communication between two people.
Intercom Functions
Intercom communication allows you to speak with one person at a time via a paired intercom, or with multiple intercoms simultaneously (Conference Mode).
Intercom Button Assignments:
- Forward Button: Rider 1 (Midland/OBI/Universal Intercom)
- Back Button: Rider 3 (Midland/OBI/Universal Intercom)
- Control Button: Rider 2 (Midland/OBI/Universal Intercom) - VOX
Intercom functions are accessed by a single press of the corresponding button.
Single Person Intercom: To speak with one person, press the corresponding button for their paired intercom once. The LED will blink. The intercom will automatically close after 1 minute of silence.
Conference Mode: To enter conference mode, open the intercom for a second person without closing the first conversation. You can speak with up to 4 people in a chain (Conference up to 4). Each unit can handle two conversations simultaneously.
Note: In conference mode (intercom open to two other devices), you can still receive calls from the device paired with the CONTROL button. Background music and the second intercom will be temporarily disconnected and automatically reconnected when the second intercom is closed.
Manual Open/Close Intercom / OBI: Single press the corresponding button for the pairing. The LED will blink and a beep will be heard.
Note: To speak with Rider 1 or Rider 3, repeat the process but press the buttons corresponding to their pairing.
Universal Intercom Open/Close: Single press the corresponding button for the pairing. The LED will blink and a beep will be heard.
Note: To activate or close an intercom from another manufacturer, use the voice command function (on some models, the voice command must be sent twice).
Voice Recognition (VOX)
Say "Hello" to activate VOX. The LED will blink. The intercom automatically closes after 1 minute of silence.
Note: Voice activation is only possible with the intercom paired to the Control Button (Rider 2), and VOX must be active.
VOX, Noise Gate, and AGC: To activate/deactivate VOX, Noise Gate (microphone muting in the absence of speech), and AGC (automatic volume adjustment based on speed), use the Midland Connect App.
Phone Functions
Voice Assistant: To activate the voice assistant (Google Assistant, Siri) when no audio is active, double-press the [Control Button]. The voice assistant will respond, allowing you to give commands or make calls. The voice assistant is available on the main unit.
Call Handling:
- To answer or end a call: Single press the [Control Button].
- To reject a call: Press and hold the [Control Button] for 2 seconds.
Music Control:
- To play/pause music: Press and hold the [Control Button] for 2 seconds.
- To skip to the next track: Double-press the [Forward Button].
- To go to the previous track: Double-press the [Back Button].
Note: You can use any button for music control.
Music Sharing with Passenger/Companion: Open the Midland Intercom (manually or via voice) and press and hold the [Control Button] for 2 seconds. Music sharing is only possible with a Midland Intercom of the same model.
