What's Included

  • Dash mounted bass remote
  • 16ft RJ12 cable (for remote)
  • High level input harness
  • Mounting hardware

Important Safety Instructions

Caution: Risk of electric shock. Do not open.

  • To reduce risk of electric shock, never open the unit. There are no user-serviceable parts.
  • Do not expose this unit to moisture.
  • Ensure the unit is situated in a properly ventilated area.
  • Make sure the unit is placed on a level and stable surface.

Functions

1. POWER/PROTECT STATUS LEDS: Green LED indicates power; Red LED indicates protect mode.

2. PHASE SHIFT BUTTON: Synchronize subwoofer phase with other speakers (0° or 180°). Select the setting that provides the best bass output.

3. AUTO POWER ON: For high level inputs only. Subwoofer powers on automatically with an input signal. Do not use with remote turn-on when using high level inputs.

4. LOW PASS FILTER: Sets the frequency range (50Hz-150Hz) below which the subwoofer reproduces sound.

5. BASS BOOST: Increases bass frequencies up to 18 decibels.

6. INPUT GAIN CONTROL: Matches the source unit's output level to the subwoofer's input level. This is not a volume control. Adjust carefully to avoid distortion.

7. SUB LEVEL REMOTE CONTROL: Dash-mounted control for adjusting bass level.

8. LOW LEVEL RCA INPUTS: Connect to head unit RCA outputs. Set AUTO POWER ON to OFF when using these inputs.

9. HIGH LEVEL (SPEAKER LEVEL) INPUTS: Connect to factory speaker wires when head unit lacks RCA outputs. Converts high voltage speaker signals.

10. FUSE: RW8CA uses a 20A fuse; RW10CA uses a 25A fuse. Never use a fuse of a higher amperage value.

11. POWER/GROUND TERMINALS and REMOTE TURN-ON CONNECTION: Refer to wiring diagrams for proper connections.

Wiring

Ground Connection

Attach a 10-gauge or heavier wire to the GROUND terminal. Connect to the vehicle's metal chassis as close to the unit as possible (within 40 inches). Ensure a clean connection, free from paint or insulation.

Remote Connection

Connect the REMOTE terminal to the head unit's remote output using a 16-gauge or heavier wire. If no remote output is available, connect to the power antenna lead. If neither is available, connect to an accessory lead that turns on with the ignition. ⚠️ Warning: Do not use the remote connection when using high level inputs. Ensure AUTO TURN ON is set to OFF.

Power Connection

Using a 10-gauge (RW8CA) or 8-gauge (RW10CA) wire, connect an in-line fuse holder to the vehicle battery's POSITIVE (+) terminal. The fuse holder should be within 18 inches of the battery. Connect the fuse holder to the unit's +12V terminal.

Remote Control Connection

Install the remote control securely under the dash or in a convenient location.

Diagram shows RCA cables connecting from a HEAD UNIT to the amplifier's LOW INPUT L/R terminals, and a remote turn-on wire connecting from the HEAD UNIT to the amplifier's REMOTE terminal.

Diagram shows speaker wires (LEFT +, LEFT -, RIGHT +, RIGHT -) from a HEAD UNIT connecting to the amplifier's HI INPUT harness, which is then plugged into the HI INPUT port.

⚠️ Warning: Do not use high level and low level inputs simultaneously. Set AUTO TURN ON to ON for high level inputs. Do not connect the remote turn-on terminal when using high level inputs.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
No power
  1. Check ground and power connections.
  2. Verify power terminal receives at least 12V.
  3. For RCA inputs, ensure Remote turn-on receives at least 5VDC.
  4. Check and replace fuse if necessary.
  5. Ensure Protect LED is off. If illuminated, turn amplifier off and then on.
Protection LED illuminates when unit is powered on
  1. Check speaker leads for short-circuits.
  2. Turn down the head unit's volume to prevent overdriving.
  3. Remove speaker leads and reset the amplifier (turn off and then on). If the Protect LED still illuminates, the amp may be faulty and require servicing.
No output
  1. Check fuse and replace if necessary.
  2. Ensure the unit is properly grounded.
  3. Verify the Remote turn-on is receiving at least 5VDC.
  4. Confirm RCA cables are properly connected.
  5. Check your high level connections.
  6. If your head unit has a separate subwoofer output, check its settings to ensure it is enabled.
Low output
  1. Reset the gain control.
  2. Check the crossover control settings.
  3. Ensure power and ground cables are of sufficient gauge for the terminals. Replace existing cables if too thin.
High hiss sound
  1. Check wire routing. If RCA cables and speaker wire run alongside power cables, they may pick up feedback. Route RCA cables separately from power cables.
  2. Noise can be caused by poor quality RCA cables. Test with different RCA cables and replace if necessary.
Squealing noiseCheck for improperly grounded RCA interconnects.
Distorted sound
  1. Set the input level control to match the head unit's signal level. Aim for the lowest possible input level.
  2. Ensure all crossover frequencies are set correctly.
  3. Check for short circuits on the speaker leads.
Amplifier gets very hot
  1. Verify wiring is correct and proper gauge wires are used.
  2. A poor ground cable connection can cause overheating. Check and tighten the ground connection securely.
  3. Ensure the amplifier is mounted in a location with proper ventilation.
Engine noise (static type)This is usually caused by poor quality RCA cables picking up radiated noise. Use high-quality cables and route them away from power cables.
Engine noise (alternator whine)
  1. Ensure RCA grounds are not shorted to the vehicle's chassis.
  2. Verify the head unit is properly grounded.
