STIGA CP1 Series Pedestrian Lawnmower User Manual

This manual provides essential information for the safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of STIGA CP1 Series pedestrian lawnmowers.

1. General Information

This manual contains important information regarding safety and operation. Warnings are highlighted with a symbol ⚠ indicating potential danger. Optional features not present on all models are indicated in grey boxes.

References to figures use letters (A, B, C...) to identify components. The manual is divided into chapters and paragraphs for easy navigation.

2. Safety Regulations

Training: Familiarize yourself with controls and how to stop the motor quickly. Failure to follow instructions may result in injury or fire.

Prohibitions: Do not allow children or untrained persons to use the machine. Do not operate when tired, unwell, or under the influence of substances. Do not allow children or passengers on the machine. The operator is responsible for safety and assessing risks.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear suitable clothing, safety footwear, and hearing protection. Wear gloves when hands are at risk. Tie back long hair.

Work Area: Inspect the area for debris. Do not operate in confined spaces or near flammable materials. Work in good light. Keep people, children, and animals away. Avoid wet grass or rain. Be cautious on uneven ground and slopes. Be aware of traffic.

Fuel Safety: Fuel is highly flammable. Store fuel in approved containers away from heat sources. Do not smoke when handling fuel. Refuel outdoors using a funnel. Do not inhale fumes. Never refuel while the engine is running or hot. Open the fuel tank slowly. Clean spills immediately.

During Operation: Operate only in well-ventilated areas. Do not direct exhaust fumes towards flammable materials. Avoid operating in explosive environments. Mow across slopes, not up/down. Be careful when reversing. Always walk, do not let the mower pull you. Keep hands and feet away from the cutting means. The cutting means may continue to rotate after the motor stops. Do not touch hot engine parts. In case of breakage or accidents, stop the motor immediately and seek medical attention if necessary.

Use Limitations: Never operate with damaged guards. Ensure all attachments are correctly installed. Do not tamper with safety systems. Do not exceed engine RPM limits. Use the appropriate machine for the job.

Maintenance, Storage & Transport: Ensure regular maintenance. Never use worn parts. Check for fuel/oil leaks. Be careful during adjustments to avoid finger entrapment. Store the machine safely, away from ignition sources. Dispose of waste materials responsibly.

3. Getting to Know the Machine

This machine is a pedestrian-controlled lawnmower designed for cutting and collecting grass. It can discharge grass to the rear or side, or mulch it, depending on the model and attachments.

Improper Use: Includes allowing children/animals on the machine, being transported, towing loads, using on non-grass surfaces, leaf collection, trimming hedges, or use by more than one person. Improper use voids the warranty.

User Types: Intended for consumers and DIY use by one operator.

Safety Signs: Various symbols indicate warnings and instructions for safe operation.

Main Components: Includes Chassis, Engine, Cutting Means, Grass Catcher, Handle, Engine Brake Lever, and Drive Engagement Lever.

4. Assembly

Certain components require assembly after unpacking. Follow provided instructions for handle and grass catcher assembly.

5. Controls

Key controls include the manual start handgrip or push-button electric start, engine brake lever (cutting means control), drive on lever, and potentially a converter control lever for speed regulation. Cutting height adjustment is also detailed.

6. Using the Machine

Preliminary Procedures: Ensure the machine is on a stable horizontal surface. Refuel with oil and fuel as per the engine manual. Prepare the machine for grass cutting by ensuring the correct discharge guard or chute cap is fitted.

Operation: Start the engine with the drive disengaged. Mow grass, adjusting speed and cutting height as needed. For mulching, do not cut more than one-third of the grass height per pass. Empty the grass catcher when full. Always stop the machine when moving between work areas, near obstacles, or before adjustments.

After Use: Clean the machine thoroughly and check for any loose parts or damage.

7. Maintenance

Routine Maintenance: Includes checking fasteners, safety controls, guards, and the cutting means before each use. General cleaning and inspection are recommended after each use. Refer to the maintenance table for specific intervals.

Refuelling & Oil: Follow engine manual instructions. Clean fuel spills. Check and top-up engine oil regularly.

Cutting Means: Operations like sharpening, balancing, or replacement must be performed by an Authorized Service Centre. Always use original cutting means.

Cleaning: Clean the machine and cutting means assembly after each use. Never use high-pressure water.

8. Storage

For storage, run the engine until it stops to empty the fuel from the carburetor. Clean the machine, check its integrity, and store it in a dry, protected place out of reach of children.

9. Handling & Transportation

Stop the machine completely before handling. Remove the spark plug cap or key. Wear gloves and use safe grip points. Use adequate personnel for lifting and transporting. Secure the machine properly during transport to prevent tipping.

10. Maintenance Table

A table outlines required interventions such as safety checks, general cleaning, engine checks (fuel, oil, air filter, spark plug), and their frequency.

11. Problem Identification

This section provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like the engine not starting, running irregularly, or the grass not being collected, along with probable causes and solutions.

12. Attachments on Request

The Mulching Kit is available for chopping grass and leaving it on the lawn.
