Vicks V1200 Personal Steam Inhaler - Use and Care Manual

Congratulations!

Your new Vicks Steam Inhaler provides the benefits of steam inhalation therapy at home, at the office, or while traveling. Doctors recommend vapor therapy for symptomatic relief of coughs, colds, and congestion. The electric steam inhaler delivers a steady flow of warm, moist air directly to the nasal and throat passages for quick relief of nasal, sinus, and chest congestion, coughs, and dry throats.

How Vicks Steam Inhaler Helps: Inhaling steam offers rapid relief from coughs and congestion. It is important to note that no medication or inhalant, such as Vicks VapoSteam or Kaz Inhalant, should be added directly to the steam inhaler's water reservoir.

Vicks VapoPads: Enhance your experience with Vicks VapoPads, designed to work with your inhaler to release soothing menthol and eucalyptus vapors. Vicks VapoPads are available where Vicks Steam Inhalers are sold or directly from Kaz at (800) 477-0457. Ingredients include Eucalyptus Oil, Menthol, Glycol, Cedar Leaf Oil, and others. Recommended usage: Not for infants under 10 pounds (4.5 kg). For children between 10-22 pounds (4.5-10 kg), use no more than 2 pads in a 24-hour period.

Kaz Inhalant Pads: Kaz Inhalant Pads (KMP-6) are also designed for your steam inhaler, providing soothing menthol and eucalyptus vapors. Ingredients include Glycol, Hercolyn D, Menthol Crystals, Camphor, and Eucalyptus Oil. Recommended usage is the same as for Vicks VapoPads.

For maintaining a healthful level of room humidity, using a Vicks humidifier or vaporizer is recommended to complement the use of the electric steam inhaler.

  8. Before use, extend the cord and inspect for damage. Do not use if the cord is damaged.

Electric Steam Inhaler Components

Key components include:

Using Your Electric Steam Inhaler

  1. Fully unravel the power cord. Failure to do so could cause overheating and a possible fire hazard. Do not use with extension cords. Place the Inhaler on a flat, stable surface for use.
  2. Remove the Inhaler Hood.
  3. Turn the Vent Assembly counterclockwise until the Index Line aligns with the Arrow on the top of the Base (just above the Switch). Note how the Tabs align with the slots in the Base. Lift the Vent Assembly straight up to remove it.
  4. Using tap water, fill the Water Reservoir to just below the rim. Do not overfill. Use with water only. Do not add any medication or inhalant liquids, such as Vicks VapoSteam or Kaz Inhalant, to the Water Reservoir, as this may create an unsafe condition.
  5. Replace the Vent Assembly. Align the Index Line with the raised Arrow on the Base. Ensure the Tabs align with the slots on the top of the Base, then turn the Vent Assembly clockwise until it locks into place.
  6. Replace the Inhaler Hood.
  7. Connect the cord to an electrical outlet. Do not use an extension cord. Press the On/Off Switch to the ON position. The Indicator Light will illuminate.
  8. The Steam Inhaler will begin producing steam in approximately 3-5 minutes. Use caution, as the water reservoir and water will become extremely hot.
  9. Move the Flow Levers counterclockwise for minimum steam flow. Position your face over the hood as pictured on the cover page. Do not rest your face directly on the Inhaler Hood, as the soft plastic may bend, allowing steam to escape or causing the Inhaler to tip over and spill boiling water. Breathe normally through your nose and mouth, inhaling steam into your nasal and throat passages. Continue treatment for five to fifteen minutes (refer to the next section for How to Regulate Steam Flow and Temperature). CAUTION: Never move or lift the Inhaler while it is in use. Do not remove the Inhaler Hood and Vent Assembly after turning on the Inhaler. Steam is produced by boiling water; tilting can cause water spills and potential burns.
  10. When vapor therapy treatment is complete, move the On/Off switch to the OFF position. The indicator light will turn off. Disconnect the plug from the electrical outlet. Allow the Steam Inhaler to cool before moving or refilling it (refer to the Care and Cleaning section). Do not operate the Steam Inhaler when empty.

How to Regulate Steam Flow and Temperature

The Steam Inhaler features a patented adjustable Vent Assembly that allows you to use the Flow Levers to control the amount of steam inhaled and regulate temperature.

How to Use Scent Pads

The Steam Inhaler features a scent pad slot for the use of Vicks VapoPads.

Note: Ensure the product is powered OFF before placing a scent pad.

  1. Use Vicks VapoPads (VSP-19 series) with your steam inhaler to provide up to 8 hours of soothing vapors.
  2. Open the VapoPad by tearing the notch on the pad bag. Do not touch the pad with your hands. If the pad is touched, do not rub your face or eyes, as it may cause irritation.
  3. Insert the VapoPad with the angled end facing downwards toward the steam inhaler vent.
  4. Discard the scent pad after 8 hours. To continue using scent pads, repeat steps 1-3.

Care and Cleaning

CAUTION: Always disconnect the plug from the electrical outlet and allow the steam inhaler to cool down for at least 20 minutes before cleaning.

After Each Use:

  1. Remove the Inhaler Hood and Vent Assembly and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  2. If any water remains in the Water Reservoir, pour it out and wipe the Reservoir and Base with a dry, clean cloth or paper towel. Never immerse the Base in water or other liquid.
  3. Replace the Vent Assembly and Inhaler Hood; store in a cool, dry place.

Weekly Maintenance:

If your Steam Inhaler is used ten or more times a week or if scale builds up in the Water Reservoir, follow these additional cleaning instructions:

  1. Remove the Inhaler Hood and Vent Assembly.
  2. Pour two ounces of undiluted white vinegar into the Water Reservoir and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Empty the white vinegar and rinse the Water Reservoir with fresh, clean tap water.
  4. Dry the Water Reservoir and Base with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  5. Wash the Inhaler Hood with mild soap and warm water, then carefully rinse off all soap with fresh, clean tap water.
  6. Dry the Inhaler Hood with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  7. Replace the Vent Assembly and Inhaler Hood. Store in a cool, dry place.

After Long Periods of Non-Use:

If you have not used your electric steam inhaler for two weeks or longer, follow the Weekly Maintenance Instructions before the next use.
