Installing the M Performance side skirt films.

Installation Time:
The installation time is approximately 0.75 hours. This may vary depending on the condition of the car and its equipment package.
Important Information
These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by authorised BMW service companies. They are intended for use by qualified specialist staff trained on BMW cars with relevant expert knowledge.
All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, wiring diagrams, servicing manuals, and work instructions, in a logical order, using prescribed tools (special tools), and observing current health and safety regulations.
For installation or functional problems, restrict troubleshooting to approximately 0.5 hours for mechanical work and 1.0 hour for electrical work.
To avoid unnecessary extra work or costs, send an inquiry to the technical parts support team via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). Quote the following information:
- VIN
- Retrofit kit part number
- A detailed description of the problem
- Any work already carried out

Installation Information
All illustrations show Left-Hand Drive (LHD) cars; proceed similarly on Right-Hand Drive (RHD) cars. Installation is shown only on the left-hand side of the car; proceed in the same way on the right-hand side of the car.
If the M Performance Motorsport strips (part number: 51 14 2 351 090) are installed on the F82 in association with the M Performance Motorsport strips sticker, M Performance lettering E of M Performance side skirt films (Part number: 51 14 2 350 706) must not be installed.
The areas being bonded must be completely dry, clean, and free from wax or grease.
The ambient temperature for bonding work must not fall below 15°C or exceed 35°C.
The film adjusts to the surface of the car under the influence of heat (direct sunlight, hair dryer); this can be used to get rid of air bubbles trapped underneath it.
M Performance side skirt films A and B must be completely smoothed with the blade around the visible area at the bottom. A lifting platform is recommended.
Special Tools Required
- Blade (Part No. 51 91 0 416 502)
Information to be Supplied to the Customer
- The car may be driven after approximately 6.0 hours and may be taken through a car wash after approximately 72.0 hours.
- When using high-pressure steam cleaners, the following restrictions must be observed:
- Maintain minimum distance between cleaning nozzle and bodywork: 1 m
- Maximum temperature: 60 °C
- The cleaning jet should not be angled at more than 30° from perpendicular to the bodywork.
- The film should be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis (every 8–10 weeks).
- Particularly aggressive contaminants such as tree resin, dead insects, or bird droppings should be washed off as soon as possible with warm soapy water.
- Matt films must not be polished to a shine. The use of hot wax is to be avoided.

9. Preparatory Work
The following components must be removed first of all:

10. Installing the M Performance Side Skirt Film
For G11/G12 cars:
To ensure the function of the carpet welcome light, M Performance side skirt film A must be trimmed:
- For the G11 along the lines (1)
- For the G12 along the line (2)

For all cars (except the F20 and F10/F11):
The areas being bonded must be completely dry, clean, and free from wax or grease.
Stick side skirt film for front left wheel arch C on the narrow edge of the side skirt and smooth out with the blade.
Then carefully remove the backing film from side skirt film for front left wheel arch C.

For F16 cars only:
All bonding areas must be completely dry, clean, and free from wax or grease.
Position M Performance side skirt film A with an offset of x = 10 mm from the rear wheel arch to the edge (1) of the M side skirt and press into place.

Only for F80/F82/F83 cars and wide M Performance side skirt film with integrated M Performance lettering:
- For F80 cars: Cut the M Performance side skirt film along the two cut lines (1) using a suitable tool.
- For F82/F83 cars: Cut the M Performance side skirt film along the cut line (2) using a suitable tool.

For all cars:
All bonding areas must be completely dry, clean, and free from wax or grease.
Position the M Performance side skirt film A flush with (for all cars except F16) or with an offset x = 10 mm from the rear wheel arch to the contour edge (1) of the M side skirt (for F16 cars, see diagram above) and press into place.
Position the M Performance side skirt film A along the contour edge (2) (for all cars except F16) or along the door edge (2) (for F16 cars), align as far as the front edge (3) and press into place.
The front end of M Performance side skirt film A must overhang the front edge (3).

For all cars except F10/F11 and F48:
Press on M Performance side skirt film A using a finger or the blade along the centre of the crease (1).
Starting from the middle, smooth out with the blade (2) above the crease (1) from bottom to top.
Starting from the middle, smooth out with the blade (2) below the crease (1) from top to bottom.

For F10/F11 and F48 cars:
Using the blade (2), smooth out the M Performance side skirt film A from top to bottom, starting from the centre.
Then carefully remove the backing film from M Performance side skirt film A.
The front end of M Performance side skirt film A is bonded around the side skirt edge. Follow this sequence when bonding the adhesive surfaces:
- First bend the bonding surface (1), press into place and smooth with the blade.
- Then bend the bonding surface (2), press into place and smooth with the blade.
- Finally, bend the bonding surface (3), press into place and smooth with the blade.

Only for F82/F83 narrow M Performance side skirt film:
If the M Performance Motorsport stripes are attached to the car and they do not bear any M Performance lettering, the following applies:
The areas being bonded must be completely dry, clean, and free from wax or grease.
Cut out left-hand paper template S1.
Place left-hand paper template S1 above left M Performance side skirt film A on the edges (1) of the side skirt, align it, and secure in place with adhesive strips (2).
Align M Performance lettering E with the edges (3), align it, and stick onto the side skirt.
Carefully remove template S1 and the backing film of the M Performance lettering E.
