Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay Ventilation Unit

Models: VL-100U5-E, VL-100EU5-E

Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and proper use of the Lossnay ventilation unit. Please read this manual carefully before operating the unit. Pay close attention to the safety precautions section for safe and effective operation.

Important Safety Information:

  • ⚠️ Warning: Indicates a hazard which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
  • Caution: Indicates a hazard which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury, or damage to property.

General Safety Precautions:

  • Do not attempt to install the unit yourself; professional installation ensures safe and effective operation.
  • If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, an authorized service agent, or similarly qualified personnel.
  • Never cut, damage, or modify the power cord. Avoid kinks, stretching, or twisting.
  • Do not operate the unit if flammable gas is leaking. Sparks from electrical contacts could cause an explosion. Open windows and ventilate the area.
  • Do not disassemble or attempt to repair the unit using tools or excessive force. This could lead to fire or electric shock.
  • Keep the unit dry. Do not allow water to enter the unit, as this can cause fire or electric shock.
  • Do not insert or remove the power plug with wet hands.
  • Use only the specified voltage. Failure to do so may result in fire or electric shock.
  • Ensure the power plug is fully inserted into the socket without any looseness. Loose connections can cause electric shock or fire.
  • Always disconnect the power supply (unplug or turn off the circuit breaker) before performing maintenance. Failure to do so may result in electric shock or burns.
  • If the unit malfunctions or breaks down, stop using it immediately and unplug it. Contact your dealer for inspection and repair.
  • Ensure the air intake is positioned to prevent the entry of smoke or other gases.
  • Do not place equipment that generates combustion products near the air intake.
  • Avoid using the unit in extremely hot areas (40°C or higher), near open flames, or in environments with smoke or organic solvents.
  • Do not attach the unit to the ceiling; it is designed for wall mounting only.
  • Keep objects away from the unit's air intake and outlet to ensure proper ventilation and accessibility for maintenance.
  • Do not cover the unit's casing; this can impede ventilation.
  • Do not pull the power cord by the plug; always grip the plug itself.
  • For prolonged periods of non-use, disconnect the power supply.
  • In cold weather conditions (below -10°C), with strong winds, snow, rain, or fog, turn off the unit and close the damper to prevent damage from water or snow ingress.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities (including children) unless supervised or instructed by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

Using the Lossnay Unit

The Lossnay unit exchanges indoor air with outdoor air, providing fresh air while recovering heat. It is not an air conditioner but a ventilation unit with heat exchange capabilities.

Winter Operation: In winter, the unit transfers heat from indoor air to incoming cold outdoor air. At temperatures below -10°C, condensation or frost may form on the casing or inside the unit, depending on indoor humidity and airflow.

Installation:

  • The unit is designed for wall mounting. Do not install it on the ceiling.
  • Ensure the outdoor air intake is installed on an exterior wall. Improper installation can allow wind and rain to enter the unit.
  • Maintain adequate clearance around the unit for proper airflow and maintenance access. Recommended clearances are 5 cm (2 inches) on the sides and 10 cm (4 inches) below.
  • When an object is placed directly below the unit, ensure the air outlet louver is oriented horizontally to prevent airflow obstruction and potential contamination of the object.
  • Do not spray aerosol products (insect repellent, hairspray, cleaning agents) directly onto the unit, as this may cause deformation or damage.

Handling Cold Air Drafts: If you feel a cold air draft, adjust the louver to a horizontal position to redirect airflow.

Damper Operation: For specific conditions (cold outdoor air, strong winds, snow, rain, fog) or during cleaning/inspection, stop the unit and manually close the damper.

Placement: Mitsubishi Electric recommends installing the unit away from sleeping areas to minimize potential noise or airflow disturbances.

Insects: Small insects may enter the unit through the outdoor air intake vents.

Maintenance: The motor and air filters require periodic maintenance (cleaning/replacement). Replacement frequency depends on usage.

Components and Specifications

The Lossnay unit consists of several key components:

  • Lossnay Core (Heat Exchanger): Transfers heat between indoor and outdoor air.
  • Filters: Exhaust air filter (prevents internal clogging) and Outside air filter (collects dust, pollen, etc. from incoming air). High-performance filters are available for enhanced dust collection.
  • Louver: Controls airflow direction.
  • Shutter Knob: Operates the damper.
  • Power Plug/Pull Cord: For power connection and fan speed control (VL-100U5-E).

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Regular cleaning and maintenance are recommended to prolong the unit's lifespan and ensure optimal performance. Clean filters at least once every six months.

Maintenance Steps:

  • Turn off power: Always disconnect power before servicing.
  • Open panel: Access internal components by opening the front panel.
  • Remove filters: Remove and clean the exhaust air filter and the outside air filter. Use a vacuum cleaner for dust removal and wash with mild detergent if necessary. Replace filters after 5-6 washes.
  • Clean heat exchanger: Clean the heat exchanger annually using a vacuum cleaner. Avoid using water or solvents.
  • Reassembly: Reassemble the unit in reverse order, ensuring all components are securely fitted.

Troubleshooting Guide:

Problem Possible Cause Action
Unit does not operate or stops suddenly. No power supply, loose connection, tripped breaker. Check power connection, plug, and breaker. Ensure rated voltage.
Unit operates irregularly or stops. Loose panel/filter, clogged filter, fan issues, motor issues. Secure panels/filters, clean filters, check fan for obstructions, check motor.
Unusual noise from the fan. Foreign matter, fan touching parts, motor issue. Clean around fan, check for obstructions, check motor, replace parts if necessary.
No airflow or reduced airflow. Clogged filters, closed damper, improper installation. Clean filters, open damper, check installation.
Incoming air feels cold. Low outdoor temperature. Stop operation, close damper, or adjust louver to horizontal position.
High/Low lamp does not illuminate. Faulty neon lamp. Replace neon lamp.

For issues not covered, or if problems persist, contact your dealer.

After-Sales Service

For after-sales service, consult your dealer. If you experience unusual sounds, lack of airflow, or other issues, turn off the power and contact your dealer for inspection or repair.
