Introducing Lossnay
The inspiration for the Lossnay range originated in 1968 when a Mitsubishi Electric engineer observed his daughter playing. She rolled a newspaper leaflet into a cylinder and breathed into it, creating warm air. This observation of paper's heat-conducting properties sparked the idea for a groundbreaking energy recovery ventilation system.
Since then, Lossnay has evolved to include domestic and commercial ranges, enhancing energy-efficient ventilation and improving Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in various building types.
Indoor Air Quality: The Foundation of Health and Wellbeing
Government bodies like the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) recognize the significant impact of air quality on health. Poor indoor air quality is increasingly linked to long-term health issues and the spread of viruses.
Indoor air quality is a crucial consideration in both homes and workplaces. Ventilation systems are essential for maintaining high IAQ by expelling stale air and contaminants and introducing fresh outdoor air. Key factors include effective removal of old air, ensuring incoming air is clean and pollutant-free (achieved through Mitsubishi Electric's filtered solutions), and balancing IAQ with energy efficiency. Mitsubishi Electric's systems use advanced heat recovery technologies to minimize energy loss while ensuring good IAQ.
Heat Recovery Ventilation: The IAQ Solution for Today's Buildings
The Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay range is built on the principles of Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV), a highly energy-efficient technology that delivers excellent indoor air quality. With quiet operation and user-friendly controls, Lossnay's HRV approach is ideal for modern ventilation needs in homes, offices, and schools.
How does Heat Recovery Ventilation work?
Unlike natural ventilation, which can be unreliable due to unopenable windows, HRV uses fans for consistent and controllable airflow. The system operates with two separate airflows: one expels stale indoor air outside, while the other brings in fresh outdoor air (which can be filtered). The Lossnay system's heat exchanger transfers heat between these two airflows, boosting energy efficiency.
Lossnay units are designed for optimal ventilation, balancing fresh air supply and stale air removal. A "night purge" function uses a bypass damper to introduce cooler outdoor air during summer nights, reducing internal temperatures and lowering the subsequent air conditioning load.
Diagram Description: A diagram illustrates the HRV process. Fresh air enters from the outdoors, and stale air exits to the outdoors. Inside the unit, a Heat Exchange Unit (Lossnay Core) facilitates the transfer of heat between the incoming fresh air and the outgoing stale air, ensuring efficient ventilation.
Heat Exchange: Technology at the Heart of Lossnay
The heat exchanger is central to the Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay range, transferring heat energy between incoming and outgoing air for year-round benefits. Mitsubishi Electric offers paper and plastic heat exchangers to suit various applications.
Cross-Flow Heat Exchanger (Paper)
The paper cross-flow core is ideal for areas with less humidity, such as offices and open-plan spaces. Developed by Mitsubishi Electric, this ultra-thin treated paper core enables total heat exchange by transferring both latent and sensible heat. Its ability to transfer moisture significantly enhances heat exchange efficiency.
Diagram Description (Cross-Flow): Shows incoming fresh air at 17.9°C, 50.3% RH and outgoing stale air at -5°C, 85.0% RH. The supplied fresh air is at 21°C, 50.0% RH, and removed stale air is also at 21°C, 50.0% RH, indicating heat and moisture transfer.
Counter Flow Heat Exchanger (Plastic)
The plastic counter-flow core is suitable for high-humidity areas like gyms and bathrooms, and for residential HRV systems to prevent mould. It facilitates sensible heat exchange, achieving high-temperature efficiency of up to 93%. The plastic exchanger is lightweight, removable, and maintainable.
Diagram Description (Counter Flow): Shows incoming fresh air at 21°C, 50.0% RH and outgoing stale air at -5°C, 85.0% RH. The supplied fresh air is at 19.2°C, 15.3% RH, and removed stale air is at 21°C, 50.0% RH, highlighting sensible heat transfer.
