For each nut with flat and beveled sides, place the flat side against the tricycle surface.
1. Installing the Rear Derailleur
Secure the rear derailleur (item 9) to its designated slot on the rear frame (item 14). Tighten the hex bolt using the 6 mm hex wrench (item 24). Ensure the derailleur is tightly secured, as this impacts chain installation.
2. Installing the Rear Wheels
The two rear wheels are different and should NOT be mixed up. The wheel with the O-shaped slot goes with the O-shaped hub on the left side of the rear axle, while the wheel with the D-shaped slot goes with the D-shaped hub on the right side.
Remove the nut and washer from the O-shaped hub on the left side of the rear frame. Connect the left rear wheel (item 29) with the O-shaped slot to the hub. Replace the washer and nut, tightening with a 22 mm wrench (not included). Repeat for the right rear wheel (item 28) with the D-shaped slot on the right side.
3. Connecting the Main and Rear Frames
Loosen and remove the protective bar from the tail of the main frame (item 16). Loosen the nuts beside the long slots on both sides of the main and rear frames. Turn the main frame upside down, aligning its slots and bolts with those on the rear frame. Slide the main frame onto the rear frame. Partially tighten the nuts with a 17 mm wrench (not included). These will be fully tightened after chain installation.
4. Installing the Chain
Find the two non-preinstalled chain links in the chain bag and connect them to each other. Position one end of the chain (item 2) around the front cog. Pass the other end through the guide pulley of the rear derailleur, arranging the chain in an 'S' shape. Run the chain around the largest rear cog. Check the length; if too long, use a chain tool (not included) to remove links. Join both ends of the chain using the provided links. Pull the chain taut to test its strength. Finally, tighten all nuts connecting the main and rear frames completely.
5. Installing the Front Wheel
Press and disconnect the V-shaped front brake on the front fork. Remove the protective bar from the front fork. Loosen the nuts and retaining clips on the front wheel (item 27). Fit the wheel into the front fork, ensuring the axle is snugly between the clips and the hub. Mount the retaining clips into place. Retighten the nuts on each side with the multifunctional wrench (item 23) to lock the front wheel.
6. Installing the Front Fender
Remove the nut from the long bolt at the top of the front fork. Fit the front fender (item 8) over the front wheel, allowing the long bolt to pass through its top slot. Replace the nut and partially tighten with the multifunctional wrench and Phillips screwdriver. Remove the short Phillips bolts from the front fork's tips. Align the slots on the front fender stay with the fork's tips. Replace and tighten these short bolts. Continue to tighten the long bolt and its nut until the front fender is securely fastened.
7. Installing the Chain Guard
Turn the tricycle frame right side up. Remove the two bolts from the guard supports near the front and rear cogs using the Phillips screwdriver (item 19). Position the chain guard (item 1) onto its supports and over the chain. Replace and tighten the Phillips bolts. Rotate the chain to check for rubbing against the guard; readjust if necessary.
8. Installing the Handlebars
Handle the exposed steerer tube carefully to avoid injury.
Remove the protective cover underneath the steerer tube of the handlebars (item 3). Loosen the bolt on the top of the steerer tube with the 6 mm hex wrench (item 24). Slide the steerer tube into the head tube of the main frame to the desired height. Adjust the handlebar angle until perpendicular to the front wheel. Retighten the top bolt. Loosen the bolt on the front of the headset. Lift the grips to the appropriate position and retighten the front bolt to lock the headset.
9. Installing the Derailleur Cable
Thread the derailleur cable from the right handlebar into the outer casing, following the slots along the down tube and chain stay. Thread the exposed cable into the other casing and feed this casing into the slot on the chain stay. Pass the cable through the barrel adjuster on the rear derailleur. Loosen the nut on the derailleur by hand, position the cable behind its washer, and retighten the nut with the multifunctional wrench. Knot any remaining exposed cable if needed.
Testing the Derailleur
ALWAYS test the rear derailleur before first use.
Confirm the derailleur is secure. Turn the twist grip shifter to '1' (lowest gear). Upshift through gears 1 to 7 while pedaling; the chain should move smoothly from the largest to smallest cog. Use the barrel adjuster to fine-tune gears: loosen to release tension (move chain away from wheel), tighten to increase tension (move chain towards wheel). If the chain doesn't align perfectly on the smallest cog at the highest gear, adjust the high-limit screw (H) with the Phillips screwdriver to align the guide pulley and smallest cog. Downshift and check for smooth operation. If the chain fails to return to the largest cog at the lowest gear, adjust the low-limit screw (L) with the Phillips screwdriver to align the guide pulley and largest cog.
10. Installing the Front Brake
Loosen the locking nut on the V-shaped front brake and release the cable. Pass the round metal head of the front brake cable through the appropriate brake handle (left in US, right in UK). Feed the cable's outer casing into the brake handle and retighten its locking nut. Position the brake pads over the front wheel's rim and tighten their locking bolts with the 5 mm hex wrench (item 25), ensuring they do not touch the tire. With the cable taut, press the front brake and retighten its locking nut with the multifunctional wrench. Test the front brake by squeezing the handle. Adjust cable tension using the barrel adjuster if needed.
11. Installing the Rear Brake
Pass the round metal head of the rear brake cable through the appropriate brake handle (right in US, left in UK). Feed the cable's outer casing into the brake handle and tighten its locking nut. Feed the rear brake cable through the spring (item 21) and past the cable clamp. Tighten the locking nut of the cable clamp with the multifunctional wrench. Test the rear brake by squeezing the handle and pushing the tricycle forward. Adjust cable tension using the barrel adjusters for effective stopping.
12. Installing the Rear Fenders
Differentiate the two rear fenders; they should NOT be mixed up. The left rear fender (item 6) stay arches towards the rear reflector's right side. The right rear fender (item 7) stay arches towards the rear reflector's left side.
Remove the nuts and bolts from the fender support on the left side of the rear frame. Place the left rear fender (item 6) over the left rear wheel, aligning its stay with the support, ensuring it doesn't touch the tire or rim. Replace and tighten the bolts and nuts with the Phillips screwdriver and multifunctional wrench. Install the right rear fender (item 7) similarly.
Rear Reflectors
If rear reflectors are not preinstalled on the rear fenders: Remove the nuts from the reflector bolts. Attach the reflectors to the rear fenders using their bolts. Secure by replacing and tightening their nuts.
13. Installing the Saddle
Loosen the bolt and pull the lever on the saddle clamp at the top of the seat tube. Insert the saddle post (item 5) into the seat tube to the preferred height. Retighten the bolt and push the lever to secure the saddle. To adjust forward/backward, loosen the two nuts underneath the saddle with the multifunctional wrench, slide the saddle, and retighten the nuts. Ensure the saddle is stable.
14. Installing the Pedals
The two pedals (item 13) are different and should NOT be mixed up. The right pedal is marked 'R' and the left 'L'.
Attach the pedals to the crank arms on the appropriate side, screwing them in. Tighten their locking nuts with the multifunctional wrench. Test chain movement while pedaling and adjust as needed.
15. Installing the Rear Basket
Remove the nuts and bolts from the top of the rear frame. Fit the basket mount (item 4) onto the rear frame, aligning slots and ensuring the locking clamp faces backward. Replace and tighten the nuts with the multifunctional wrench. Unfold the rear basket (item 15) and connect its sides using the mounting bars (item 18). Remove nuts from caster bolts (item 12) and attach casters to the bottom corners of the basket. Replace and tighten nuts. Remove nuts and bolts from the basket handle (item 17), connect the handle to the basket, and replace/tighten bolts/nuts. Position the basket onto its mount and secure it with the locking clamp.
16. Installing the Bell and Front Reflector
Remove the bolt from the clamp of the bell (item 10). Position the bell on the handlebars using its clamp. Replace and tighten the bolt with the Phillips screwdriver. Install the front reflector (item 20) similarly.
17. Installing the Wheel Caps
Attach the front wheel caps (item 11) to both sides of the front wheel hub and press until fixed. Install the rear wheel caps (item 22) onto the rear wheel hubs in the same fashion.
Folding
To fold your tricycle for storage or transport:
- Open the handle and pull its bolt out of its holding bracket. If difficult, apply lubrication to hinge bolts. Rotate the handle to adjust its distance from the inner hinge. Be mindful that making the handle too loose reduces its ability to hold the hinge closed.
- Raise the locking pin: Support the base of the handle with your palm while positioning your thumb over the frame. Pull up with your palm while pushing down with your thumb. The pin should disengage, freeing the front of the tricycle. Apply force to the BASE of the handle.
- Pivot the front of the tricycle to the desired position. The hinge does not lock when open; use a bike lock if necessary. Be mindful of brake cables during pivoting to avoid abrasion or clamping. For the most compact position, angle the front wheel to fit past the left rear wheel and adjust pedals so the left pedal fits between wheel spokes. Be careful not to damage wheels, spokes, or pedals.
To unfold, follow the same procedure in reverse. Always check that the hinge is fully in place and locked before riding.
Speed Gearing Adjustment
The gear shifter on the right handlebar uses a twist grip to control the 7 rear cogs, providing 7-speed gearing. Larger gear numbers correspond to smaller cogs and higher speeds. Smaller gear numbers correspond to larger cogs and lower speeds.
To upshift, turn the twist grip forwards (toward +). To downshift, turn the twist grip backwards (toward -). Ensure the tricycle's crank is turning while adjusting gears.
Maintenance
- After use, check tricycle parts for looseness, wear, or damage. Tighten, repair, or replace problematic parts before further use.
- Clean the exterior with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive or caustic chemicals.
- Lubricate the chain and any moving parts with standard bike lubricant as needed.
- If the tricycle will not be used for an extended period, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and inaccessible to children.
