Installation

Insert / Remove the Memory Card

To Insert: Ensure the camera is off. Hold the memory card as shown and slide it into the card slot until it clicks.

To Remove: Ensure the camera is off. Push the edge of the memory card with your fingernail; it will spring out for removal.

Note: The microSD card is sold separately and must be Class-10 or UHS-I rated, up to 512GB. VIOFO recommends its industrial-grade microSD cards. The card must be formatted before first use (exFAT or FAT32). Turn off the camera before inserting or removing the card to prevent data corruption.

Format the Memory Card

Memory cards must be formatted before first use. This can be done via the VIOFO App (Settings > Format) or by long-pressing the [Format Button] on the camera. Alternatively, format the card on a computer using the exFAT or FAT32 file system. A GUIFormat tool is available on the VIOFO website for deep formatting.

Note: Formatting the card erases all data; back up important files first. Periodic formatting is recommended for optimal performance.

Install the Front Camera

  1. Select a location on the windshield behind the rear-view mirror that does not obstruct the driver's view.
  2. Wipe the installation surface clean and ensure it is grease-free for proper adhesion.
  3. Mount the dashcam directly to the windshield with the sticky pad, or attach the static sticker first, then the mount.
  4. Peel off the protection film from the sticky pad and camera lens.
  5. Fix the camera securely in the chosen location.
  6. Adjust the Lens Angle by observing the live view on the LCD screen, tilting up or down as needed.
  7. Connect to Power: Insert the car charger's USB Type-C cable into the camera mount's port and plug the adapter into the vehicle's 12V/24V power socket.

Install the Static Sticker (Optional)

  1. Clean the windshield surface.
  2. Peel the red protective film off the static sticker and attach it to the windshield, pressing to remove air bubbles.
  3. Peel the green protective film off the static sticker.
  4. Peel the protection film from the mount's sticky pad and attach it to the static sticker, pressing firmly.

Install the Rear Camera (Optional)

  1. Select an installation location on the rear windscreen, avoiding defrost grid wires, where the camera can record the entire rear view.
  2. Wipe the installation surface clean.
  3. Peel the protection film off the sticky pad and camera lens.
  4. Fix the rear camera in the selected location.
  5. Connect with Rear Camera: Power off the product. Connect the rear camera cable to the front camera (main unit). Route the cable as shown in the diagrams.

Install the Interior Camera (Optional)

  1. Select an installation location on the windscreen, avoiding defrost grid wires, for a clear interior view.
  2. Wipe the installation surface clean.
  3. Peel the protection film off the sticky pad and camera lens.
  4. Fix the interior camera in the selected location.
  5. Connect with Interior Camera: Power off the product. Connect the interior camera cable to the front camera (main unit). Route the cables using the provided clips for a tidy installation.

Installation Tips

Remove Cameras

To remove the front camera from its bracket, slide the camera to the right and pull it out. Note: Always turn off the camera before plugging or unplugging rear or interior cameras.

Dash Cam Recording Operation

Initial Setup

Upon first activation, the dashcam prompts for initial setup: Language, Time Zone, and Speed Unit. Use the menu buttons [⬆️]/[⬇️] to select options and the OK button [✔️] to confirm.

Note: These settings can be modified later in the settings menu. Factory resets will trigger the initial setup again.

Format microSD Card

Memory cards must be formatted before first use. Select the format option [Format Button] and confirm. The camera will restart after successful formatting.

Note: Formatting erases all data. Settings can be modified anytime in the settings menu.

Power On / Off

Loop Recording

Automatic loop recording begins when the camera detects power with a microSD card inserted. Video files are saved in 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10-minute segments. When the card is full, the oldest files are automatically overwritten. Loop recording files are saved in the DCIM\Movie directory.

Emergency Recording

Note: G-sensor sensitivity can be adjusted in the settings.

Disable / Enable Audio Recording

Press the [Microphone Button] to turn audio recording on or off. The [MIC LED] will be solid blue when audio is on and off when audio is off.

Parking Mode

The dashcam offers three parking mode options for surveillance when the engine is off, typically requiring a hardwire kit for continuous power:

Note: VIOFO recommends the HK4 ACC hardwire kit for parking mode. In hot weather (above 60°C), consider turning off the dashcam to prevent errors.

Playback and Manage Videos

Playback Video on Dashcam

  1. From standby mode, long press the [Playback Button] to enter the playlist.
  2. Use the arrow buttons [⬆️]/[⬇️] to select a video and press the [Play Button] [▶️] to play it.
  3. Press the [Return Button] to exit.

Playback Video on VIOFO APP

Enable Wi-Fi on the dashcam (long press [Wi-Fi Button]). Connect your smartphone to the dashcam's Wi-Fi network. Open the VIOFO app and select 'Connect your camera' to control the dashcam, play, and manage files.

Playback Video on PC

  1. Turn off the dashcam and remove the microSD card.
  2. Insert the card into a card reader connected to your PC.
  3. Navigate to the DCIM folder and use a video player (like VLC) to playback the files.

Note: If your PC has a microSD slot, you can insert the card directly.

Video File Storage Location

File Format Definition

Files recorded by different cameras are saved separately. The filename format is YYYY_MMDD_HHMMSS_SeqNum.MP4.

Example: 2023_0821_180010_062PF.MP4 (Front camera, normal recording).

Review and Control on Smartphone

Connect to Smartphone

The VIOFO app allows remote control, live preview, playback, and video management via smartphone.

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi in the camera menu or long press the [Wi-Fi Button]. The Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password will appear on the camera screen.
  2. On your phone, connect to the dashcam's Wi-Fi network (e.g., VIOFO_A229P_5E8A with password 12345678). The camera's Wi-Fi LED will turn solid blue upon connection.
