2.2 Safety Precautions
To avoid device damage and bodily injury from improper use, observe the following rules:
- Keep the power off during installation.
- Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap with good skin contact and grounding.
- Use only the provided power cord.
- Ensure the supply voltage matches the device's specifications.
- Install the device in a well-ventilated environment with unobstructed ventilation holes.
- Do not open or remove the device cover.
- Before cleaning, cut off power. Clean with a slightly damp cloth; avoid liquid cleaners.
Site Requirements
Temperature/Humidity: Keep the equipment room at appropriate temperature and humidity levels. Extreme humidity can lead to insulation issues, leakage, and corrosion. High temperatures accelerate aging and shorten service life.
Clearness: Dust accumulation can cause static electricity and poor contact. While the device has static prevention, strong static electricity can damage electronic components. To avoid this:
- Dust the device regularly and maintain clean indoor air.
- Ensure the device is well-grounded to transfer static electricity.
Electromagnetic Interference: Electronic components can be affected by external interferences. To decrease interference:
- Use a power supply that effectively filters power grid interference.
- Keep the device away from high-frequency and strong-current devices (e.g., radio transmitting stations).
- Use electromagnetic shielding when necessary.
Lightning Protection: High voltage currents from lightning can damage electronic devices. Take effective lightning protection measures:
- Ensure the rack and device are well-earthed.
- Ensure the power socket has good ground contact.
- Maintain a reasonable cabling system to avoid induced lightning.
- Use a Surge Protective Device (SPD) for outdoor wiring.
Note: For detailed lightning protection measures, visit https://www.tp-link.com/support, search your NVR model, and refer to the Lightning Protection Guide: https://www.tp-link.com/us/configuration-guides/lightning_protection_guide/.
Installation Site: When installing on a rack or flat workbench:
- Ensure the rack/workbench is flat, stable, and sturdy enough to support at least 5.5 kg.
- The rack/workbench should have good ventilation, and the equipment room must be well-ventilated.
- The rack must be well-grounded. Keep the device within 1.5 meters of the power socket.
2.3 Installation Tools
- Phillips screwdriver
- ESD-preventive wrist strap
- Cables
Note: These tools are not included and can be purchased separately.
2.4 Hard Drive Installation
For first-time installation, prepare a 3.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD), preferably surveillance or enterprise level. Disconnect power from the NVR before installation.
- Remove the fixing screws on the side and back panels to open the NVR cover.
- Remove the fixing screws to detach the HDD bracket.
- Match the screws on the HDD with the holes on the NVR. Up to 4 HDDs can be mounted at a time.
- Install the HDD bracket back to the NVR.
- Connect the power cables and data cables.
- Replace the cover and fasten the screws of the NVR.
2.5 Product Installation
Desktop Installation:
- Set the device on a flat, stable surface capable of supporting its weight.
- Remove the adhesive backing papers from the rubber feet.
- Turn the device over and attach the supplied rubber feet to the recessed areas on the bottom at each corner.
Rack Installation:
To install in an EIA standard-sized, 19-inch rack:
- Check the grounding system efficiency and rack stability.
- Secure the supplied rack-mounting brackets to each side of the device with screws, as illustrated.
- Use suitable screws (not provided) to secure the brackets to the rack.
Chapter 3: Hardware Connection
Follow the steps below to complete hardware connection.
Diagram Description: The NVR is shown connected to a monitor via HDMI or VGA, a network device (router/switch) via LAN, and a mouse via USB.
- Connect your monitor to the HDMI or VGA port.
- Connect your monitor to a power source and turn it on.
- Connect the NVR's LAN port to a network device using an Ethernet cable.
- Connect the provided USB Mouse to the NVR's USB interface.
Note:
- To turn off the NVR after installing the hard drive, right-click on the Live View screen and select the Power button on the Main Menu. Do not unplug directly.
- Ensure the input voltage matches the NVR's power requirements.
- The buzzer may trigger if no hard drive is installed or the HDD is not initialized. This can be turned off in Event-Exception Detection-Disk Exception settings.
