Screw-Lock Crown
The screw-lock crown is equipped with a mechanism that securely locks the crown when not in use, preventing operational errors and improving water resistance. To wind the watch using the crown, first unlock it, then pull it out.
Unlocking the Crown: Rotate the crown counter-clockwise to unlock it. The crown can then be used. (Unlock the crown before use.)
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the crown being unscrewed counter-clockwise, labeled "Unscrew". The crown is shown in a locked state and an unlocked state.]
Locking the Crown: Rotate the crown clockwise, gently pushing it towards the case, until it stops turning. (When locking the crown, rotate it carefully so the screw engages properly. Do not force the crown, as this may damage the screw hole in the case.)
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the crown being screwed clockwise, labeled "Screw down". The crown is shown in an unlocked state and a locked state.]
How to Wind the Power Spring (Manual Winding)
This is an automatic watch with a manual winding mechanism.
- When worn on the wrist, the wearer's movements wind the spring.
- For the first use of a stopped watch, it is recommended to manually wind the spring by turning the crown.
How to Wind the Power Spring Manually:
The crown is a push-type winding crown. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to unlock it. When fully unlocked, the crown will protrude from its original position.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the watch crown being pulled out to the unlocked position.]
- After unlocking the crown, slowly turn it clockwise to wind the spring. Be careful not to push the crown in.
- Wind the spring until the power reserve indicator shows a fully wound state. The second hand will start moving immediately.
- Carefully turn the crown clockwise while pushing it in, until it is fully recessed into the case and locked.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the crown being turned clockwise to wind the spring.]
Note: If you manually wind the crown five full turns, it provides approximately ten hours of power reserve. Turning the crown counter-clockwise does not wind the spring.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the power reserve indicator at its maximum.]
How to check the spring's wound state: See "How to Read the Power Reserve Indicator" → (Page 26).
When the spring is fully wound, further winding is unnecessary. The crown can be turned further without damaging the watch mechanism; the spring will not be over-wound.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the crown being pushed in and screwed down.]
Note: When the crown is pushed into the case, you may hear a click – this indicates the spring is wound. This is normal and occurs when the spring is engaged.
Setting Time and Date
The watch features a date function and is designed so that the date changes approximately every 24 hours. The date changes around midnight. If the AM/PM setting is incorrect, the date will change at noon.
❗ WARNING
Do not set the date between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. Changing the date during this period may cause issues, such as the date failing to advance to the next day.
- Unlock the crown. (Refer to "Screw-Lock Crown" → Page 17)
- Pull the crown out to the first click position.
- The date can be set by turning the crown counter-clockwise. Turn it until the previous day's date is displayed. For example, to display the date "6", first set it to "5". Then, turn the crown counter-clockwise to set the date.
- Pull the crown out to the second click position and set the time.
- Return the crown to its normal position in accordance with the time signal. The second hand will start moving immediately.
- Lock the crown again. (Refer to "Screw-Lock Crown" → Page 17)
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the crown pulled out to the first click position.]
Pull the crown out to the second click position when the second hand is at the 12 o'clock position; the second hand will stop. Turn the crown to move the hands forward until the date changes to the next day. This indicates the time is set for PM. Move the hands forward to set the correct time. When setting the minute hand, advance it about 10 minutes past the correct time, then slowly move it back to the correct minute.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the crown pulled out to the second click position, with the second hand stopped.]
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the crown pushed back to the normal position.]
Tip: Telephone time signals are useful for precise second-hand setting.
Tips for More Accurate Time Setting:
Pay attention to the following points for more accurate time setting:
- Before setting the time, wind the spring until the power reserve indicator shows a fully wound state.
- If the watch has stopped, wait about 30 seconds after the second hand starts moving before pulling the crown out to the second click position.
- Do not stop the second hand if the crown has been in the second click position for thirty minutes or longer. If the crown has been in the second click position and the second hand has been stopped for over 30 minutes, push the crown in to return it to the initial position. Wait until the second hand moves for at least 30 seconds, then reset the time.
Date Adjustment for Month-End
The date needs to be adjusted at the end of February and for 30-day months.
Example: Setting the date on the first day of the month following a 30-day month
If the watch shows "31" instead of "1": Pull the crown out to the first click position. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to set the date to "1", then return the crown to its normal position.
❗ WARNING
Return the screw-lock crown to its normal position. Do not change the date when the time displayed is between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM. This may cause damage.
How to Read the Power Reserve Indicator
The power reserve indicator shows the state of the wound spring.
Before taking off the watch, check the power reserve indicator to ensure it has enough energy to keep running until you wear it next. If necessary, wind the spring. (To prevent the watch from stopping, wind the spring to build up additional energy, allowing the watch to run longer.)
[Diagram description: Illustration of the watch dial showing the power reserve indicator.]
State of Power Reserve | Time the Watch Will Run |
---|---|
Fully Wound | Approximately 72 hours (3 days) |
Half Wound (approx.) | Approximately 36 hours (1 day) |
Not Wound | The watch stops or slows down. |
How to Use the Rotating Bezel
The rotating bezel can be used to measure elapsed time since the start of an event.
- At the start of an event for which you need to measure elapsed time (e.g., starting a dive), rotate the bezel so that the mark '▼' on the bezel aligns with the minute hand.
- Observe the graduation on the rotating bezel that the minute hand points to. The graduation on the rotating bezel indicated by the minute hand corresponds to the elapsed time.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the bezel being rotated so the '▼' mark aligns with the minute hand.]
Note: The rotating bezel is designed to rotate only counter-clockwise. Do not force it clockwise.
(Refer to "Unidirectional Rotating Bezel" → Page 29)
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the minute hand pointing to a graduation on the bezel, indicating elapsed time.]
Example: If you start a dive at 10:10. After 20 minutes, the minute hand points to the 20-minute mark on the bezel, indicating 20 minutes have passed.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the bezel with the minute hand pointing to the 20-minute mark, indicating elapsed time.]
Unidirectional Rotating Bezel
Since the remaining air in a tank is based on the time elapsed since the start of a dive, the rotating bezel for diver's watches is designed to rotate only counter-clockwise. This prevents the watch from showing an elapsed time shorter than the actual time that has passed.
❗ WARNING
Always check the remaining air in your tank before diving. During a dive, use the elapsed time indicated by the rotating bezel solely as a reference.
Care and Maintenance
Daily Care
The watch requires careful daily care.
- Do not wash the watch while the crown is pulled out.
- Wipe off moisture, sweat, and dirt with a soft cloth.
- After diving in saltwater, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water and dry it completely. Do not pour tap water directly onto the watch. First, pour some water into a basin, then immerse the watch and rinse it.
- If your watch is classified as "not water-resistant" or "water-resistant for everyday use," do not rinse it. (Refer to "Water Resistance" → Page 14, "Operating Characteristics and Type" → Page 31)
Periodically Rotate the Crown
To prevent corrosion of the crown, rotate it periodically. This also applies to the screw-lock crown. (Refer to "Screw-Lock Crown" → Page 17)
Operating Characteristics and Type
The caliber and operating characteristics of the watch are indicated on the case back.

Lumibrite
If your watch has Lumibrite coating:
Lumibrite is a luminous paint that absorbs energy from sunlight and artificial light sources in a short time and emits light in the dark. For example, if exposed to light exceeding 500 lux for about 10 minutes, Lumibrite can emit light for 3 to 5 hours. However, as Lumibrite emits stored light energy, the brightness level gradually decreases over time. The duration of illumination may vary slightly depending on factors such as the brightness of the location where the watch was exposed to light and the distance from the light source to the watch.
- Generally, when moving from a bright area to a dark one, human eyes take some time to adapt to the darkness, making it difficult to distinguish objects at first. (Dark adaptation)
- Lumibrite is a luminous paint that stores and emits light. It is safe for people and the environment and does not contain toxic materials like radioactive substances.
Brightness Levels
Conditions | Illumination | Luminosity |
---|---|---|
Sunlight | Clear sky | 100,000 lux |
Cloudy sky | 10,000 lux | |
Indoors (daytime, by window) | Clear sky | Over 3,000 lux |
Cloudy sky | 1,000–3,000 lux | |
Rainy weather | Less than 1,000 lux | |
Lighting (fluorescent lamp, daylight type, 40W) | Distance from watch: 1 m | 1,000 lux |
Distance from watch: 3 m | 500 lux (average room illumination) | |
Distance from watch: 4 m | 250 lux |
Resistance to Magnetic Fields
When exposed to magnetism from nearby objects, the watch may temporarily run fast, slow down, or stop. Diver's watches have magnetic resistance equivalent to or exceeding Class 1 standards of the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS).
⚠️ DANGER
Marking on Case Back
No Marking
Usage Conditions
Keep the watch more than 5 cm (2 inches) away from devices with magnetic fields. (JIS Level 1)
Marking Present
Keep the watch more than 1 cm (0.4 inches) away from devices with magnetic fields. (JIS Level 2)
If the watch becomes magnetized and its accuracy deteriorates beyond normal operating specifications, it requires demagnetization. If the watch loses accuracy due to magnetization, repair and demagnetization will be charged, even if it is within the warranty period.
Reason Magnetic Fields Affect Watches: The built-in regulation mechanism contains a magnet that can be affected by strong external magnetic fields.
Examples of Common Devices with Magnetic Fields That Can Affect Watches
[Diagram description: Icons representing a smartphone/tablet/mobile phone (speaker), a networked adapter, a bag with a magnetic clasp, a razor/kitchen appliance (speaker), a walkie-talkie, a magnetic necklace, and a magnetic pillow.]
If the watch becomes magnetized and its accuracy deteriorates beyond normal operating specifications, it requires demagnetization. If the watch loses accuracy due to magnetization, repair and demagnetization will be charged, even if it is within the warranty period.
Bracelet
The bracelet is in direct contact with the skin and can become dirty from sweat and dust. Therefore, without proper care, the bracelet may deteriorate faster, cause skin irritation, or stain clothing sleeves. For long-term use of the watch, thorough care is required.
Metal Bracelet
- If moisture, sweat, or dirt is left on the watch for extended periods, it can cause rust even on stainless steel bracelets.
- Lack of care can lead to rashes or yellowish/golden stains on shirt cuffs.
- Wipe off moisture, sweat, and dirt with a soft cloth as soon as possible.
- To remove dirt around bracelet gaps, first rinse the bracelet in water, then clean with a soft toothbrush. (Wrap the watch case in a plastic bag, etc., to prevent water from entering.) Wipe with a soft cloth.
- Some titanium bracelets use stainless steel pins for strength, which can rust. As rust progresses, the pins may protrude or fall out, potentially causing the bracelet to detach from the case or the clasp to become difficult to open. Protruding pins can cause injury. In such cases, stop wearing the watch and take it for repair.
Polyurethane Strap
- Polyurethane straps can fade in sunlight and may be damaged by solvents or high humidity. This is especially true for transparent, white, or light-colored straps, which can easily absorb other colors, leading to stains or discoloration.
- Wash off dirt with water and dry with a dry cloth. (Wrap the watch case in a plastic bag, etc., to prevent water from entering.)
- If the strap loses flexibility, replace it with a new one. Continued use of a stiff strap may eventually lead to cracks or brittleness.
Silicone Strap
- Due to the material's characteristics, this type of strap can easily get dirty, stained, or discolored. Wipe the strap with a damp cloth or tissue to remove dirt. Unlike straps made of other materials, cracks on silicone straps can gradually develop into tears. Avoid contact with sharp objects.
Notes on Irritation and Skin Allergies: Skin irritation from straps can occur due to factors such as allergies to metals or leather, friction, dust, or the strap itself.
Notes on Bracelet Length: Adjust the strap so that there is a small gap between it and your wrist, allowing for adequate air circulation. When wearing the watch, leave enough space to slip a finger between the bracelet and your wrist.
How to Adjust the Bracelet for Diving
If your watch's metal bracelet has a dive adjustment function, its length can be easily changed. This is very convenient when wearing the watch over a diving suit or winter clothing.
- Lift the clasp so it is at approximately a 90° angle, then press it down further by about 20° and hold it lightly.
- Gently pull the bracelet from the 6 o'clock side of the watch along the curved line of the bracelet to extend the slider.
- Press the button to lift the buckle and put the watch on your wrist.
- First, close the buckle (4-1), then the clasp (4-2).
- While holding the bracelet on both sides, adjust the slider length so the bracelet fits comfortably around your wrist.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the watch clasp being lifted and pressed down.]
Note: Be careful not to apply excessive force to the clasp. Some resistance may be felt, but only light force is needed.
[Diagram description: Illustration showing the bracelet being pulled from the 6 o'clock side to extend the slider.]
Note: Only light force is required for this operation. Be careful not to pull the bracelet out forcefully. The slider can be extended by approximately 30 mm. Be careful not to extend the slider beyond this limit.

After-Sales Service
Notes on Warranty and Repair
- For repairs or maintenance, please contact the retail store where you purchased the watch or a SEIKO CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER.
- A warranty certificate must be presented to receive repair services during the warranty period.
- Warranty terms are stated on the warranty certificate. Read and keep it carefully.
- After the warranty period expires, repair services are available on a paid basis, provided the malfunction can be corrected.
Replacement of Functional Parts
- Please note that if original parts are unavailable during repair, equivalent parts may be used, which may differ in appearance.
Inspection and Adjustment, Including Disassembly and Cleaning (Maintenance)
- To ensure optimal performance of the watch over a long period, it is recommended to have it inspected and adjusted, including disassembly and cleaning (maintenance), approximately every 3 to 4 years.
- The power transmission mechanism, which is responsible for the watch's operation, is constantly under stress. To keep this mechanism functioning properly, it is important to regularly clean parts, replace oil, adjust accuracy, check operation, and replace consumables. For extended watch life, the first maintenance after purchase is particularly important. Depending on usage conditions, the ability of mechanical parts to retain lubrication may decrease, leading to wear from oil contamination or causing the watch to run significantly slow or stop altogether. As gasket properties deteriorate over time, water resistance may decrease, allowing sweat and moisture to enter the mechanism. Inspection and adjustment, including disassembly and cleaning (maintenance), should be performed by the retail store where you purchased the watch, using "GENUINE SEIKO PARTS." When requesting service, also ask to replace the gasket and spring bar. Following inspection and adjustment, including disassembly and cleaning (maintenance), your watch's mechanism may be completely replaced.
❗ WARNING
Depending on the environment where the watch was used for diving, the movement of parts or internal components may be affected, or the case or bracelet may be damaged. We recommend regular servicing of the watch every 3 to 4 years.
