Smart Switch Gen3 LED Status

Setting up the Smart Switch Gen3

This switch is compatible with both toggle and rocker style wall switches.

  1. Remove the screws from your existing faceplate.
  2. For rocker style switches, select appropriate fasteners and spacers. Start with the recommended spacers; adjustments may be needed in later steps.
  3. Insert two AA batteries into the Smart Switch Gen3 and replace its cover.
  4. Ensure the Smart Switch actuator is in the 'up' position by pressing its button.
  5. Turn your existing rocker or toggle switch to the 'ON' position.
  6. Place the Smart Switch Gen3 over the existing wall switch. Test its operation by pressing the button to turn the switch on and off. Adjust the spacers as needed to ensure proper engagement between the Smart Switch actuator and the wall switch paddle.
  7. Optional: For rocker switches, apply the protective film over the paddle.

Factory Reset

Smart Bridge: Long press the reset button using a pin through the pinhole until all three LEDs blink rapidly. Smart Switch Gen3: Long press the button on the switch for 30 seconds until its LED blinks rapidly.

Setup with 3R-Installer App

Compatibility: iOS version 1.0.2 or later. Requires Bluetooth and a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

  1. Download and install the 3R-Installer App (iOS/Android) on your smartphone.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your phone and ensure it's connected to a stable internet connection via a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  3. Power on the Smart Bridge using the provided power adapter. The Wi-Fi LED indicator should blink blue, signifying readiness for Wi-Fi setup.
  4. Open the 3R-Installer App and tap the '+' icon in the upper right corner.
  5. Scan the Matter QR Code located on the Smart Bridge and follow the on-screen instructions to configure the Wi-Fi network.
  6. Once Wi-Fi configuration is complete and the Zigbee end device (Smart Switch) is powered, the Smart Bridge and its connected devices will appear on the app's device page.
  7. In the 3R-Installer App, swipe right to view connected devices. Tap a device icon to access its page and check for firmware updates (OTA).
  8. Tap 'Link With Matter Enabled Services'. You can then copy the Manual Setup Code or scan the QR Code (valid for 3 minutes) to add the bridge to other Matter-supported ecosystems via multi-admin setup.

Setup with Apple Home

Compatibility: iOS version 16.6 or later. Requires a Matter-supported Controller (HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV).

It is recommended to set up the bridge using the 3R-Installer app first, then obtain the setup code for adding to Apple Home via multi-admin. Alternatively, scan the QR code directly to add the bridge to Apple Home.

  1. Set up the Smart Bridge using the 3R-Installer App and copy its setup code (valid for 3 minutes).
  2. Ensure your Apple Home Controller is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Launch the Home App, tap '+', then 'Add or Scan Accessory'. Tap 'More Options', select the Smart Bridge MZ1, and paste the setup code from the 3R-Installer App to continue. Set the location and name for the bridge.
  3. Accessories pre-connected to the Smart Bridge will update automatically.
  4. Assign locations and names to these accessories, and create automations as desired.
  5. To connect the bridge to another Matter-certified ecosystem, long-press any attached accessory, tap 'Accessory Settings', then 'Bridge' to access the Smart Bridge MZ1 device page. Tap 'Turn On Pairing Mode' to generate and copy a new setup code. Launch the other ecosystem's app, follow its setup instructions, paste the code, and complete the process.

Setup with Google Home

Compatibility: Google Home App version Android: 3.3.1.4+ / iOS: 3.3.104+.

It is recommended to set up the bridge using the 3R-Installer app first, then obtain the setup code for adding to Google Home via multi-admin. Alternatively, scan the QR code directly to add the bridge to Google Home.

  1. Set up the Smart Bridge using the 3R-Installer App and copy its setup code (valid for 3 minutes).
  2. Ensure your Google Home speaker is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Launch the Google Home App, tap '+', then 'New device'. Select a home, tap 'Next', choose the Smart Bridge, tap 'Next', then 'Continue without scanning'. Paste the setup code to continue, and create a name for the bridge.
  3. Devices pre-connected to the Smart Bridge will update automatically.
  4. Create names for these devices and add them to Google Home. Set up automations for them.
  5. To connect the bridge to another Matter-certified ecosystem, long-press any attached accessory, tap 'Accessory Settings', then 'Bridge' to access the Smart Bridge MZ1 device page. Tap 'Turn On Pairing Mode' to generate and copy a new setup code. Launch the other ecosystem's app, follow its setup instructions, paste the code, and complete the process.

Setup with Alexa

Compatibility: Alexa App version Android: 2.2.521848.0+ / iOS: 2.2.548660+.

It is recommended to set up the bridge using the 3R-Installer app first, then obtain the setup code for adding to Alexa via multi-admin. Alternatively, scan the QR code directly to add the bridge to Alexa.

  1. Set up the Smart Bridge using the 3R-Installer App and copy its setup code (valid for 3 minutes).
  2. Ensure your Alexa speaker is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Launch the Amazon Alexa App, tap '+' in the upper right on the device page, then 'Add Device'. Scroll down, tap 'Other', choose 'Matter', and then 'TRY NUMERIC CODE INSTEAD'. Enter the code and follow the instructions to add the bridge and pre-connected devices.
  3. Create routines with the added devices.
  4. To connect the bridge to another Matter-certified ecosystem, generate a new setup code from the first ecosystem's app (go to Device Settings, tap 'Other assistants and apps', then 'Add another', and copy the setup code). Launch the other ecosystem's app, follow its setup instructions, enter the code, and complete the setup.

Setup with SmartThings

Compatibility: SmartThings App version 1.8.01.22+ (Android) or 1.7.02.16+ (iOS). Requires SmartThings Hub V2/V3 or Aeotec Smart Home Hub.

  1. Set up the Smart Bridge using the 3R-Installer App and copy its setup code (valid for 3 minutes).
  2. Ensure your SmartThings hub is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Launch the SmartThings App, tap '+', select 'Add device', choose 'Matter', then 'Add without QR code'. Enter the numeric code copied from the 3R-Installer app, tap 'Next', and follow the on-screen instructions to add the bridge and pre-paired devices.
  3. Create routines with the Zigbee devices added through the Smart Bridge.
  4. To enable Zigbee pairing for other ThirdReality Zigbee devices, press the Smart Bridge's reset button through the pinhole. The Zigbee LED indicator will blink blue. Put the THIRDREALITY Zigbee devices into pairing mode to add them.
  5. To connect the bridge to another Matter-certified ecosystem, generate a new setup code from the first ecosystem's app (go to Device Settings, tap 'Share with other services', then 'Share device'). Launch the other ecosystem's app, follow its setup instructions, enter the code, and complete the setup.
