To Check the Movement Number
A case number, consisting of 4 alphanumeric characters and 6 or more alphanumeric characters, is engraved on the case back. The first 4 characters of the case number represent the movement number of the watch. For example, "AAAA" is the movement number.
Engraving position example: The engraving position may differ depending on the watch model.

Before Using This Watch
This watch features a rechargeable cell charged by exposing the dial to light. Regularly expose the dial to direct sunlight for charging. Refer to page 8 for charging details.
Connection with the Smartphone
Connect the watch to your smartphone using the dedicated app. Download a compatible app from your smartphone's app store.
Band Adjustment
It is recommended to seek assistance from an experienced watch technician for band sizing. Incorrect adjustment can lead to detachment of the bracelet, causing loss of the watch or injury. Consult an authorized service center.
Protective Stickers
Ensure all protective stickers (on case back, band, clasp, etc.) are removed. Otherwise, perspiration or moisture may enter gaps, potentially causing skin rash and/or corrosion of metal parts.
How to Use a Specially Designed Crown/Button
Some models have a specially designed crown and/or push button to prevent accidental operation.
Screw Down Crown/Button
Unlock the crown/button before operating your watch.
- Unlock: For a screw-down crown, rotate counterclockwise until it releases. For a screw-down push button, rotate the locking screw counterclockwise until it stops.
- Lock: Push the crown into the case and rotate clockwise to secure it firmly. For a screw-down push button, rotate the locking screw clockwise and tighten firmly.
Recessed Button
Press the button with a non-marring, narrow-tipped object. Metal objects may cause marring or scratching.

Before Connecting with a Smartphone
This watch uses Bluetooth Low Energy for power-saving communication. You must install the dedicated app "CITIZEN Eco-Drive Riiiver" on your smartphone and start it to pair the watch and phone.
The connection flow is:
- Install the dedicated app
- Start up the app
- Pairing (registration)
- Connection
- Disconnection

Pairing (Registering) the Smartphone
Execute pairing when first connecting the watch and your smartphone. Unique pairing information is saved on both devices. Executing pairing anew will overwrite existing information.
Executing Pairing
Pairing requires operation on both the watch and the smartphone and takes approximately 5 seconds.
- Download and install the "CITIZEN Eco-Drive Riiiver" app from an app site.
- Start the dedicated app. Keep the app screen displayed until pairing is finished. If you are a new user, create an account. The pairing screen will appear after initial setup.
- If the pairing screen does not appear, tap the menu icon on the home screen, then tap [My watch] > [Adding a new watch].
- Push the two buttons (upper right button Ⓑ and lower right button Ⓐ) at the same time. The second hand will point to "ACTIVATE", and pairing begins.
When pairing finishes successfully: The second hand will turn twice, and the watch and smartphone will connect. Update the watch firmware if available via [My watch].
When pairing fails: The watch will emit an alarm, and the second hand will point to "RECONNECT". Press any button to cancel the indication before trying again.
Connection and Disconnection
After pairing, the status is either "connected" or "disconnected". The watch and smartphone do not need to be constantly connected; connect them as required. They disconnect automatically after using iiidea or transferring information.
Connecting
- Start the dedicated app.
- Press and release the upper right button Ⓑ and lower right button Ⓐ simultaneously. The watch and smartphone connect.
Disconnecting Manually
Set the crown to position 1 or 2.
About Time Reception
The watch receives time and calendar information from your smartphone upon connection, adjusting automatically. It also attempts automatic time reception once daily when exposed to light after 3:00 AM, even if disconnected.
Requirements for Automatic Time Reception:
- Pairing with a smartphone must be completed.
- The watch must not be in power-saving mode.
Automatic time reception does not work if:
- The crown is not at position 0.
- The power reserve is "0" (insufficient charge warning).
Checking the Power Generation Amount and Power Reserve
You can check the power generation amount and power reserve using the dedicated app. Data is stored for up to 2 weeks.
Checking Power Generation Amount
The power generation amount is shown as an "achievement level" (percentage of power needed for 1-day running). History can be viewed in graphs and maps.
- Start the dedicated app.
- Press and release the upper right button Ⓑ and lower right button Ⓐ simultaneously to connect the watch and smartphone.
- Display the power generation amount screen.
- Check the information:
- Achievement Level: Indicates the percentage of power generation required for a 1-day run (100%). Charging amount may be less even at 100% if the watch is used more with the smartphone. See "Specifications" for details on "Standard use with the smartphone".
- Tap [Graph] or [Map] to view daily/weekly/monthly graphs or map lines of power generation amount.
Checking the Power Reserve Using the Dedicated App
- Start the dedicated app.
- Press and release the upper right button Ⓑ and lower right button Ⓐ simultaneously to connect.
- Tap the menu icon on the home screen.
- Tap [My watch]. The current power reserve level is shown when connected.
- Tap [Checking the log of the watch]. The screen shows power reserve and temperature.
On the "Watch log" screen:
- Tap to switch the indication time period (Day, Week, Month).
- Tap to switch between [battery] (power reserve) and [°C (watch)] (temperature).
- Graph points show the average for the indicated time period.
- Tap to switch the unit of indication time period.
Checking the Power Reserve on the Watch
Power reserve is indicated in 29 levels.
- Press the lower right button Ⓐ repeatedly until the function hand indicates power reserve.

The power reserve is indicated by the function hand in percentage:

At 0%, the second hand moves once every two seconds (insufficient charge warning). See "Specifications" for "Standard use with the smartphone" duration details. Connection disconnects when power reserve is 0%, but basic functions remain. Some functions may be unavailable during insufficient charge warning.
Using the Activity Monitor
This watch is equipped with an acceleration sensor that automatically measures and stores your activity data. When connected to a smartphone, activity data is sent to the app for browsing and saving. Data is stored on the watch for 2 weeks.
- Start the dedicated app.
- Press and release the upper right button Ⓑ and lower right button Ⓐ simultaneously to connect.
- Display the activity monitor screen.
- Check information on the screen:
- Achievement Level: Target value is 100%. Tap [Graph] to view daily/weekly/monthly activity amount graphs.
Software technologies provided by ACOS CO., LTD are used. Activity amount may differ from actual usage.
Data of the Activity Monitor
To use the activity monitor correctly, enter personal data (sex, height, weight, birth date) in the app. This data is stored with activity data. See "Remove the data stored in the watch" for data removal.
Check the Internal Temperature of the Watch
A temperature sensor measures the watch's internal temperature. Data is sent to the smartphone app when connected. The indicated temperature is internal to the watch and may differ from environmental temperature.
Temperature data is stored for 2 weeks. Measurement accuracy is approximately ±5 °C within +5 °C to +35 °C environmental temperature. The temperature unit (°C/°F) follows the smartphone setting.
- Start the dedicated app.
- Press and release the upper right button Ⓑ and lower right button Ⓐ simultaneously to connect.
- Tap the menu icon on the home screen.
- Tap [My watch].
- Tap [Checking the log of the watch].
- Tap [°C (watch)] to switch the display to watch temperature.
On the "Watch log" screen, you can switch time periods and between battery and temperature indications.
Connection Indication on the Watch
When the connection status changes, the second hand indicates the status:

Connection indication occurs only when the crown is in position 0. The watch maintains correct time and calendar during indication. "INFORMATION" may notify app updates.
Connectable Range
The connectable distance is up to about 10 meters (33 feet). This range can be reduced by obstacles. Avoid blocking the watch with your body.
Canceling the Connection Indication
The second hand will not indicate seconds until connection indication is canceled. This may be required for some operations.
- Press and release any button while the second hand indicates connection. The indication cancels, and the second hand returns to normal movement. Changing the crown position also cancels the indication.
Using iiidea
The dedicated app has 3 slots to register "iiideas" (extended functions). You can select iiideas to operate from the watch or display their indications. Conditions for use vary per iiidea. Check details by tapping the iiidea icon in the app. For more information, visit https://riiiver.com/
Changing iiidea
- Start the dedicated app.
- Press and release the upper right button Ⓑ and lower right button Ⓐ simultaneously to connect.
- Press the lower right button Ⓐ repeatedly to switch to the desired iiidea. Move the function hand to point to the slot of the chosen iiidea.
Slots without registered iiideas are skipped.
To Stop Using an iiidea
Press the lower right button Ⓐ repeatedly until the function hand indicates power reserve.
[My watch] Screen
Modify various settings on the [My watch] screen in the dedicated app. Some settings require a connection to the smartphone.
Available options include:
- Silent: Mutes watch sounds.
- Checking the log of the watch: Displays power reserve and temperature graphs.
- Browse all the watch: Shows currently connected watches.
- Adding a new watch: Tap here when executing pairing.
- Firmware update: Use for updating watch firmware.
Removing the Data Stored in the Dedicated App
Data stored in the cloud and app can be removed via the app's setting screen > [Account setting] > [Data deleting]. See "Remove the data stored in the watch" for watch data removal.
Turning the Watch into the Flight Mode
Deactivate smartphone connection function, useful for planes or hospitals.
- Pull the crown out to position 1. The second hand shows the current flight mode setting (on/off). If connected, the connection is disconnected.
- Rotate the crown to change the setting: Clockwise for Off → On, Counterclockwise for On → Off.
- Push the crown in to position 0 to finish. The watch returns to normal indication.
After turning off flight mode: The connection function becomes available. Execute connection operation when needed. Check and adjust time/calendar if required.
Charging Your Watch
This watch has a solar cell under the dial that charges a built-in rechargeable cell using light (direct sunlight or fluorescent lamps).
For optimal performance:
- Place the watch in a bright location (e.g., near a window) even when not in use.
- Expose the dial to direct sunlight for 5-6 hours weekly.
- Avoid leaving the watch in dark places for extended periods.
[CAUTION] Recharging Precautions:
- Do not charge at high temperatures (approx. 60°C / 140°F or higher) as it may cause malfunction. Avoid charging too close to heat-generating light sources or in extremely hot locations like a car dashboard.
- If the watch is frequently obscured from light (e.g., by long sleeves), supplemental charging may be needed.
- The watch stops charging automatically to prevent overcharging.
When the Watch Reaches a Low Charge State (Insufficient Charge Warning Function)
When power reserve is low, the second hand moves once every two seconds. Charge the watch immediately. When sufficiently charged, the second hand returns to normal movement. If not charged for 18 days or longer after the warning starts, the watch will stop.
During the insufficient charge warning state, time and date are indicated correctly.

Direct sunlight is recommended for charging. Fluorescent or interior lighting may not provide sufficient illumination.

Cautions When Connected with a Smartphone
Frequent connection and use of iiideas consume significant power. Charge the watch frequently. Ensure your smartphone is also adequately charged.
Power Save Function
The second hand stops at 0 seconds if the dial is not exposed to light for 30 minutes. Automatic time reception is not active during power save. The function is not activated when the crown is not at position 0.
Canceling the Power Save Function
Power save status ends when:
- The dial is exposed to light, and power generation begins.
- Activity is detected by the acceleration sensor (after personal data is registered).
After a long period in power save mode, check and adjust the time and calendar if necessary.
Adjusting the Time and Calendar Manually
If connected, connection with the smartphone is disconnected.
- Pull the crown out to position 2. The second hand points 15 seconds.
- Press and hold the upper right button Ⓑ for 2 seconds. The second hand points 0 seconds. Release the button.
- Press the lower right button Ⓐ to select the target to correct: Minute → Hour → Date → Year/Month. The hands/indications move slightly to show they are adjustable.
- Rotate the crown to adjust the selected hand/indication. Note AM/PM for date changes. The function hand moves with the date. Rapid rotation allows continuous movement; rotate in either direction to stop. Refer to "Month and year indications" for setting year/month.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 for other adjustments.
- Push the crown in to position 0 to finish, aligning with a reliable time source.
Month and Year Indications
Set the year and month using the second hand position. The 12 zones on the dial correspond to months (1-12). The year is indicated by markers within each month's zone, showing years since a leap year (0=Leap year, 1, 2, 3).

Example: For July 2019, 2019 is 3 years since leap year, so set the second hand to the 3rd minute marker in the July zone.
Troubleshooting
Checking and Correcting the Reference Position
Check and adjust the reference position via the dedicated app: [Help] > [Troubleshooting] > [Time and/or date is incorrect].
If time/calendar is incorrect even after proper reception, check the reference position. If hands/indications do not reflect the correct position, accuracy will be affected.
What is the reference position? The base position for all hands and calendar to indicate functions correctly.
- Hour, minute, second hands: 0 hour 00 minute 0 second
- Function hand: Slot 1
- Date indication: Midway between "31" and "1"
Steps to Check/Correct:
- Pull the crown out to position 2. The second hand points 15 seconds.
- Press and hold the lower right button Ⓐ for 4 seconds or more. The hands/indications will move to their stored reference positions. Release the button when movement starts.
- Check the reference positions against the illustration. If correct, proceed to step 8. If wrong, proceed to step 4.
- Press and release the lower right button Ⓐ to start adjustment.
- Press and release the lower right button Ⓐ repeatedly to select the hand/indication to correct: Function hand/date → Hour hand → Minute hand → Second hand.
- Rotate the crown to adjust the selected hand/indication. The function hand and date move synchronously. Rapid rotation allows continuous movement; rotate in either direction to stop.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 as needed.
- Push the crown in to position 0.
- Press and release the lower right button Ⓐ to finish.

Resetting the Watch -- All Reset
If the watch malfunctions, you can reset time and calendar settings. Ensure sufficient power reserve before resetting.
After All Reset, perform the following:
- Correct the reference positions (refer to page 9, step 4 onwards).
- Adjust the time and calendar manually (page 8) or by connecting with your smartphone.
Steps for All Reset:
- Pull the crown out to position 2.
- Press and hold the lower right button Ⓐ and the upper right button Ⓑ simultaneously for 4 seconds or more, then release. An alarm will sound, and the reset will execute.

Remove the Data Stored in the Watch
To delete all data (pairing info, personal data, activity monitor data, etc.) and return the watch to its factory state:
- Pull the crown out to position 1. The second hand stops at 0 seconds (flight mode off) or 30 seconds (flight mode on).
- Press and hold the upper right button Ⓑ for 4 seconds or more. The second hand swings left and right, and data is removed. Release the button when the swinging starts.

- Using this watch in a country where it is not permitted may be punishable by law.
- Bluetooth communication may be monitored. Do not use for critical communications or those involving human lives.

Eco-Drive Watch Handling Precautions
Always Make Sure to Recharge Frequently
For optimal performance, keep the watch fully charged. Long sleeves can inhibit light transmission, potentially causing the watch to lose charge; supplemental charging may be necessary. When not wearing the watch, place it in a bright location.

Replacement of Rechargeable Cell
This watch uses a special rechargeable cell that does not require periodic replacement. However, power consumption may increase over years due to component wear, potentially depleting stored power faster.

- Never remove the rechargeable cell. If removal is necessary, keep it away from children to prevent accidental swallowing. Consult a doctor immediately if swallowed.
- Do not dispose of the rechargeable cell with ordinary garbage. Follow local regulations for battery collection to prevent fire or environmental contamination.
[WARNING] Use Only the Specified Battery:
Never use a battery other than the specified rechargeable cell. Using another type of battery, even if the watch structure prevents operation, could lead to overcharging, battery rupture, watch damage, and injury. Always use the designated rechargeable cell for replacement.
Water Resistance
[WARNING] Water Resistance:
Refer to the watch dial and/or case back for water resistance indication (e.g., WATER RESIST xx bar or W.R. xx bar). The chart below provides examples of use.
- Non-water resistant models: Avoid any contact with moisture.
- Water resistance for daily use (to 3 atmospheres): Suitable for occasional accidental splashing.
- Upgraded water-resistance (to 5 atmospheres): Suitable for swimming, but not skin diving.
- Upgraded water-resistance (to 10/20 atmospheres): Suitable for skin diving, but not scuba or saturation diving with helium gas.

Precautionary Items and Usage Limitations
[CAUTION] To Avoid Injury:
- Be careful when holding a small child to avoid injury.
- Be careful during strenuous exercise or work to avoid injury to yourself and others.
- Do NOT wear the watch in a sauna or other very hot locations to prevent burns.
- Be careful when putting on/taking off the watch to avoid damaging fingernails.
- Remove the watch before sleeping.
[CAUTION] Precautions:
- Always use the watch with the crown pushed in (normal position). If it's a screw-lock type, ensure it's securely locked.
- Do not operate the crown/buttons when the watch is wet, as water may enter and cause damage.
- If water enters or the watch fogs up and doesn't clear, consult a dealer or service center.
- Even with high water resistance, be careful: Rinse with fresh water and dry if immersed in seawater. Do not pour tap water directly onto the watch. Remove before bathing.
- If seawater enters, place the watch in a sealed bag and seek immediate repair to prevent internal pressure increase.
[CAUTION] When Wearing Your Watch:
- Band: Leather and rubber bands deteriorate over time. Replace periodically. Leather bands can be affected by moisture (fading, peeling) and may cause rashes. Avoid contact with volatile materials, bleach, alcohol, and direct sunlight. Do not wear the band too tightly for ventilation. Rubber bands can stain from clothing dyes; caution is advised. Replace if elasticity is lost or cracks appear. Seek professional adjustment/repair for band abnormalities or protruding pins.
- Temperature: The watch may stop or function improperly in extreme temperatures. Do not use outside the specified operating range.
- Magnetism: Strong external magnetism can affect the quartz motor and timekeeping accuracy. Keep away from magnetic devices (necklaces, bands, etc.), refrigerator door magnets, handbag clasps, cell phone speakers, and electromagnetic cooking devices.
- Strong Shock: Avoid dropping or subjecting the watch to strong impacts, which can cause malfunctions or damage.
- Static Electricity: Quartz watch ICs are sensitive to static electricity; intense exposure may cause erratic operation.
- Chemicals, Corrosive Gasses and Mercury: Solvents (paint thinner, benzene, etc.) and mercury can discolor, dissolve, or crack watch materials. Handle with care.
- Protective Stickers: Remove all protective stickers (case back, band, clasp, etc.) to prevent moisture/perspiration from entering gaps, which can cause skin rash or corrosion.

[CAUTION] Always Keep Your Watch Clean:
- Rotate the crown and press buttons periodically to prevent them from sticking due to foreign matter.
- The case and band contact skin. Corrosion or accumulated matter can cause black residue. Keep your watch clean.
- Periodically clean the bracelet and case to remove accumulated dirt and foreign matter. If skin irritation occurs, discontinue wear and consult a physician.
- Clean metal bands, synthetic rubber straps, and metal cases with a soft brush and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid moisture on the case if not water-resistant.
- Leather bands may discolor from perspiration or dirt. Wipe with a dry cloth.
Caring for Your Watch
- Wipe dirt/moisture (like perspiration) from the case and crystal with a soft cloth.
- For metallic, plastic, or synthetic rubber bands, clean with soap and a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly.
- For leather bands, wipe off dirt with a dry cloth.
- If storing for an extended period, wipe off perspiration, dirt, or moisture and store in a proper location, avoiding extreme temperatures and high humidity.
When Luminous Paint is Used for Your Watch
The luminous paint on the dial and hands helps read time in the dark by storing light. It is free from radioactive or harmful materials. The light emission gradually weakens over time. Duration of glow varies with light source, exposure time, and paint amount. It may not glow or may dissipate quickly if light exposure was insufficient.
