Innovative Pool Products
Model: HS35
Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive information for the Duratech HS35 heat pump, designed for efficient pool heating. It covers installation, operation, safety guidelines, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Safety Information
Please read these instructions carefully before using the heat pump and keep them for future reference:
- Always keep the unit upright. If the unit has been tilted or put on its side, wait 24 hours before starting the heat pump.
- Place the unit on a flat, solid base.
- Do not drop the heat pump.
- The heat pump must always be installed outdoors.
- Check if the voltage indicated on the RCD of the heat pump corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the unit.
- Do not pull the mains plug with unnecessary force. Do not wrap the mains plug around the heat pump.
- Do not use the heat pump in combination with a transformer.
- If the heat pump is damaged during transportation, it must be replaced; please contact your service centre or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.
- Always make sure the water connections of the heat pump are properly locked before you start using the machine.
- Never insert objects directly into the fan, as this will cause it to become blocked and damaged.
- The evaporator fins must not be damaged.
- This heat pump is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the heat pump by a person responsible for their safety.
- Children should always be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the heat pump.
- Disconnect the mains plug from the socket when the heat pump is not in use and before cleaning.
The heat pump will always perform very well, provided the following elements are present:
- ?️ Fresh air
- ⚡ Electricity
- ? Swimming pool water

Preparation for Use
4.1. Typical Configuration & Distance from the Pool
The heat pump should be located at least 2m away from the swimming pool. In normal operation, the air taken by the heat pump is cooled down and water may condense on the fins of the evaporator and run out of the bottom of the unit.
Installation Requirements:
- Maintain a minimum clearance of 0.3 meters around the heat pump from any object (1). ⚠️
- Place the heat pump on a flat, solid base.
- Ensure at least 1.5m of unobstructed space in front of the fan to avoid obstruction.
- All water treatment feeding to the pool water must be done downstream of the heat pump (2).
Condensation water may exit the unit during operation; this is normal and not a fault. High humidity can result in several liters of condensation per day.
4.2. Hose Connection
Step 1: Connect the inlet and outlet hoses.
Step 2: Connect the hoses to the heat pump unit.
It is normal for condensation water to exit during operation; this is not a fault or leak. ⚠️
4.3. Electrical Connection
The RCD (Residual Current Device) is available in EU and UK versions.
Connection:
- Connect the heat pump and circulation pump to an outdoor socket.
- Ensure the outlet is earthed.
- The pool circulation pump must operate with the heat pump; connect them to the same circuit.
Startup and Settings
The display blinking indicates the controller is locked. Press and hold the ON/OFF button for 3 seconds to unlock.
Controller Components:
- Power LED: Indicates power supply. OFF on display means powered. LED is off when the heat pump is running, indicating the controller is unlocked.
- Operation LED: Indicates compressor status. Blinking means compressor is off; solid means compressor is on. Features a 150-second delay to protect components.
- Fan LED: Indicates fan status. Blinking means fan is off; solid means fan is on. Features a 150-second delay.
- Settings LED: Illuminates when in the settings menu.
- Display: Shows current water temperature. Displays error messages: ECO (ambient temp < 10°C), AL1 (sensor damaged), AL2 (compressor pressure too high).
Controls:
- Temp UP / Temp DOWN: Press to adjust desired temperature. Menu saves and closes after 5 seconds.
- ON/OFF Button: Press to start or stop the heat pump. It starts automatically when water temperature drops 1°C below the set point.
Guidelines
6.1. Cold/Harsh Weather Conditions
The heat pump is designed for rainy weather and frost resistance (Nofrost technology). However, it is not recommended for prolonged outdoor use (e.g., over winter). Store in a dry place after draining the pool for winter.
6.2. Restarting After Long-Term Storage
Follow these steps for re-starting after storage:
- Inspect for debris or damage.
- Clean evaporator fins. Ensure clean fins for optimal airflow and heat production.
- Check fan for blockages.
- Connect water inlet and outlet.
- Turn on the pool circulation pump.
- Restore electrical power and press the RCD reset button.
Maintenance and Error Messages
Regularly check water supply and pool water quality. Keep the area around the heat pump clear and ventilated. Clean the evaporator regularly. Check power supply and connections. If abnormal operation or burning smell occurs, switch off and contact dealer. Drain water from the bottom if stored for extended periods.
Error Messages:
Alarm | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
TCO | Too cold outside (ambient temp < 10°C at start-up, or internal temp < 3°C when running). | Heat pump will start automatically when ambient air temperature rises above 10°C. |
AL1 | One of the heat pump sensors is damaged. | Turn pump OFF and ON. If alarm persists, contact service center. |
AL2 | Compressor pressure is too high. | Turn pump OFF and ON. If alarm persists, contact service center. |
When TCO, AL1, or AL2 alarms appear, you can check current water temperature by pressing the UP arrow, and current air temperature by pressing the DOWN arrow.
Environment
Do not dispose of this heat pump with household waste. It must be taken to a central recycling point for electrical and electronic equipment. ♻️
