Preparation and Compatibility Check
Check Compatibility
Before assembly, compare your graphics card with the pictures in the Alphacool configurator at https://www.hwconfig.com. You can also compare the PCB number for definitive identification. The cooler is designed for a specific PCB layout. Manufacturers may revise designs, potentially affecting compatibility. Ensure taller components have adequate clearance and the cooler does not damage the graphics card during assembly.
Alphacool International GmbH is not liable for assembly errors due to negligence, such as selecting an incompatible cooler.
Prepare Graphics Card
Place the hardware on an antistatic mat. Begin by dismantling the original cooler. Remove screws from the back of the card and carefully detach the fan connector. If the original cooler uses thermal glue, exercise extreme caution to avoid damaging components. Keep all parts. Clean the hardware of thermal paste or pad residues using a solvent like isopropanol alcohol.
Step 1: Remove Spacers
Description: This step involves removing any existing spacers from the graphics card, referencing parts like the screwdriver (I) and screws (R) if applicable to the original cooler's mounting.
Step 2: Place Thermal Pads on Cooling Block
Description: Apply the specified thermal pads (A, B, C, D, E, F) to the designated locations on the cooling block. Ensure correct placement and orientation.
Assembly Steps
Step 3: Apply Thermal Grease
Description: Apply a small amount of thermal grease (G) to the GPU die. Ensure even coverage without excess.
Step 4: Install PCB
Description: Carefully place the graphics card PCB onto the cooling block assembly. Secure it using the provided screws (K) and potentially washers (J) if indicated. Ensure correct alignment.
Step 5: Place Thermal Pads on PCB Backside
Description: Apply the thermal pads (M, N, O, P, Q) to the corresponding components on the back of the graphics card PCB. These pads help dissipate heat from the VRMs and memory chips on the rear.
Step 6: Mount PCI Bracket and Backplate
Description: Attach the PCI bracket (S) and the backplate (R) to the graphics card assembly. Use the provided screws (I) to secure them firmly.
Connectivity
Step 7: Connect ARGB Lighting
Description: Connect the ARGB adapter (T) to the motherboard's ARGB header or compatible controller to enable lighting effects. The adapter allows connection to the Aurora Eiscontrol system.
Step 8: Secure Screw Plugs
Description: Use the plug tool (U) to screw in the G1/4 plugs (V) into the designated ports on the water block to seal them.
