Bulletin Details

Classification: Campaign Bulletin

Section/Group: 18 - Thermal Management

Mobile Service: Cannot Perform

Configuration: All

Model Year: 2022-2023

? The model(s) and model year(s) listed are a general approximation of the affected VIN list. Refer to the VIN/Bulletin Tracker or Customer/Vehicle profile to determine applicability of this bulletin for a particular vehicle.

This campaign bulletin addresses a non-safety-related condition and provides recommended technical diagnosis and repair procedures. Apply this procedure to the applicable vehicles.

This Service Document supersedes SB-23-18-001 R4, dated April 4, 2023. This new revision, R5, updates the bulletin and section titles and adds emphasis to the inspection section. Each content change is marked by a vertical line in the left margin. Discard the previous version and replace it with this one.

Condition

Certain Model Y vehicles built in Giga Berlin between September and December 2022 may suffer from contamination in the Supermanifold to Compressor A/C line, resulting in a potential premature failure of the A/C compressor.

Correction

Inspect the Supermanifold to Compressor A/C line to determine the type of A/C line installed. If necessary, flush the HVAC case and replace the compressor, the supermanifold, and the A/C lines.

Correction Description Correction Code Time (Hours)
Inspect A/C Line and Adjust Configuration if Needed S012318001 0.10
Inspect A/C Line, Replace A/C Components and Flush HVAC Case S022318001 3.12

? The time in the table above includes all technician touch time, but not all of the A/C machine flush time. Depending on the flush time, vehicles will occupy the workspace for 3 to 4.5 hours.

? Make sure that coolant and refrigerant stock is replenished in time if this procedure is performed frequently.

Inspection Procedure

? Inspect the Supermanifold to Compressor A/C line to determine whether repairs are needed.

  1. Remove the HEPA filter (refer to service manual procedure 18105401).
  2. Check the location of the high pressure charge port in the supermanifold to compressor discharge line.
    • Figure 1 shows the charge port located near the compressor. If the high pressure charge port is located near the compressor (as shown in Figure 1), repairs are not necessary. Proceed with step 3 of this section to check the configuration and update the configuration if necessary.
    • Figure 2 shows the charge port located near the supermanifold. If the high pressure charge port is located near the supermanifold (as shown in Figure 2), skip to the section Replace A/C Components.
  3. Reinstall the HEPA filter (refer to service manual procedure 18105401).
  4. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  5. In Toolbox 3, click the Dashboards tab and select Infotainment Dashboard.
  6. On the Infotainment Dashboard, make sure these values are as shown below, and modify them if necessary:
    • compressorType: DENSO_11K_COP1_ENABLED
    • coolantPumpType: DUAL_MIX
    • refrigACLineType: SAAA_LIMITED
  7. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  8. Use correction code S012318001.

Replace A/C Components Procedure

⚠️ CAUTION: Make sure to start the repair procedure with a recovery machine that has been inspected and is within the valid certification period, and that has a minimum of 6 kg of refrigerant.

⚠️ CAUTION: The recovery machine filter can be used for 10 full flushes. Mark the filter before each flush and replace the filter after 10 full flushes, or as soon as it shows icing during the flush, or when the recovery machine displays an error (Error 09 on Waeco ASC 5500).

⚠️ CAUTION: Make sure to leave new parts sealed as long as possible, and immediately seal up all inlets and outlets of any part that has been removed, to prevent ingress of foreign debris.

? Only perform this procedure after having determined that repairs are needed (refer to Inspection).

  1. Replace the Compressor, the Supermanifold, and the A/C lines, and flush the HVAC case (refer to Service Manual procedure 18204012).
  2. Use correction code S022318001.
