Installing Batteries:
1. Turn the battery cover knob anti-clockwise to loosen and open the battery cover.
Note: For non-rechargeable batteries, ensure the Charger/Batteries switch is set to "Battery". For rechargeable batteries, set the switch to "Charger".
2. Insert 4 x C size (UM-2) batteries, observing correct polarity (+ and -). Close and fasten the battery cover.
If the radio is not to be used for an extended period, it is recommended to remove the batteries.
Signs of low battery include reduced power, distortion, a "stuttering sound", or a flashing low battery indicator.
AC Operation:
Before plugging into an AC socket, ensure the voltage is correct. Connecting the AC power cord will automatically disconnect the batteries. The AC power cord storage is designed for neat storage when not in use.
Charging the Batteries:
The radio can be charged only when it is off. Connect the AC power cord to the AC socket and ensure the battery type switch is set to "Charger". The battery charge indicator LED will flash red while charging. Charging time is approximately 6-10 hours. A steady red LED indicates the batteries are fully charged.
Note: Charging duration can vary based on battery capacity (mAh).
Important Information on Charging and Using Rechargeable Batteries
- Recharge batteries at least every 2 months.
- Ensure the Battery Select switch is set to "CHARGER" position.
- Insert batteries with correct polarity (+ and -).
- For first use, charge new batteries continuously until full. This may take longer than normal.
- New batteries reach full capacity after several charge/discharge cycles.
- Do not mix batteries (e.g., fully charged with partly empty) as this can damage batteries and the radio.
- Charge batteries at room temperatures between 5°C and 35°C for optimal results.
- Charging can take several hours, up to 10 hours or more, depending on capacity.
- Do not charge batteries when the radio is hot or exposed to heat.
- Periodically clean battery and charger contacts with a contact spray.
- Do not mix old and new rechargeable batteries.
- Do not mix rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries.
- Do not mix full and empty rechargeable batteries.
- Do not use batteries with different mAh capacities.
- Do not use damaged, deformed, or leaking batteries.
- The battery level indicator is approximate and may vary by battery type.
- Batteries can become hot during charging.
- Battery capacity is lower in cold conditions.
- Batteries are consumables and not covered by the radio's warranty.
- Do not dispose of batteries with household waste; recycle them appropriately.
- It is advised to use LEXEL rechargeable batteries (model: C4500) or equivalent specifications for non-rechargeable batteries.
