Quick Start Guide

If you are a Windows user, please find the appropriate keycaps in the box, then follow the instructions below to find and replace the following keycaps.

Getting Started

1. Connect Bluetooth

Steps:

  • Switch the toggle to Bluetooth mode [Bluetooth/Cable toggle switch].
  • Press and hold the fn + 1 keys for 4 seconds to enter pairing mode. The keyboard's Bluetooth name is 'Keychron K5'.

2. Connect Cable (Wired Mode)

Steps:

  • Switch the toggle to Cable mode [Bluetooth/Cable toggle switch]. This mode only works when a USB cable is plugged in.
  • Connect the included Type-C cable to your PC and the keyboard.
  • The backlight will turn on. Under Wired Mode, the keyboard will not enter into Battery Saver Mode.

Features and Functions

3. Change Light Effect

Press the light effect key to cycle through different lighting effects.

For RGB version: Press fn + right arrow or fn + left arrow to change backlight colors (for static color mode).

4. Switch Between Function and Multimedia Keys (F1-F12)

For Windows: Press and hold fn + X + L for 4 seconds to switch.

For Mac: Go to System Settings > Keyboard > Enable the function keys. For F5 & F6 as function keys, press fn + K + C for 4 seconds to switch.

5. Disable Auto Sleep Mode

The keyboard enters Auto Sleep Mode after 10 minutes of inactivity to save battery. To disable this mode, press and hold fn + S + O for 4 seconds. To re-enable it, press fn + S + O again for 4 seconds.

6. Activate Siri / Cortana

For Siri on Mac: Go to System Preferences > Siri > select the "Press Fn (Function) Space" option. (Siri key only works on macOS and not on iOS.)

For Cortana on Windows: Select Start > Settings > Cortana and select the shortcut by pressing Windows key + C. (Cortana is only available for Windows 10 and above OS. Availability may vary by region.)

OS Switch

1. MAC/iOS: Turn the switch to Mac/iOS when connected to a Mac or iOS operating system.

2. WINDOWS/ANDROID: Switch the toggle to Windows/Android when connected to a Windows or Android operating system. When using Windows/Android mode, the Alt and Command keys (or equivalent) are used for "Windows" and "Alt" functions.

Input Method Switch

For iOS:

  • Input method switch: Ctrl + Space
  • Caps Lock: Caps (Enable General > Keyboards > Hardware Keyboard > Caps Lock Language Switch)

For Android:

  • Input method switch: Shift or Shift + Space

Note: Functions of certain multimedia keys may be disabled due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS. It is recommended not to switch OS frequently as it may impact keyboard operations.

Function Description: Charging

Plug the cable into a USB port and the other end into the keyboard port. Charging Indicator: When battery is below 15%, a red battery blinking indicator will be triggered. A red light will stay on while charging. Fully charged in around 3 hours, a green battery indicator will appear.

*The Keychron keyboard is compatible with all USB ports. Use a 5V 1A adapter or USB 3.0 for best performance. The Keychron K5 can be charged in Bluetooth/on/off mode.

*This product supports up to 5V charging voltage and 1A charging current.

Backlit Setting

  • Short press the light effect key [Light effect key icon] to switch between different types of lighting effects.
  • When backlit is on, press the fn + left arrow or fn + right arrow to adjust light colors (For RGB version only).

Reconnect

  1. Switch the keyboard to the Bluetooth option to activate it. It will connect to the last connected device by default.
  2. The Bluetooth indicator flashes for 4 seconds and automatically pairs with the last paired device.
  3. If the Bluetooth indicator is off, press any button to enter the connection again.

*The keyboard must have been paired with the device previously.

Turn Off the Keyboard

Switch the mode toggle to "Off".

Switch Bluetooth Devices

Short press the combination key fn + 1, fn + 2, or fn + 3 to switch between paired devices.

Troubleshooting

Unable to pair keyboard to device

Confirm the device is Bluetooth-capable. Restart the device and try pairing again.

Note for Windows: New Bluetooth connections may require software updates. Wait at least 20 minutes after pairing for updates to complete before restarting the computer.

Ensure the device is configured to accept Bluetooth connections (Windows) and supports an external keyboard (HID profile).

Settings check: Go to Bluetooth Devices > Open Settings and select:

  • Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer
  • Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer
  • Alert me when a Bluetooth device wants to connect

My keyboard isn't working

  • For the keyboard: Turn the keyboard off and back on.
  • For the computer (Windows): Turn Bluetooth off and restart the computer.
  • For the device: Go to Bluetooth settings, turn off Bluetooth, and "forget" the keyboard. Restart the device and turn on Bluetooth to reconnect.

Bluetooth connection is interrupted even within 10 meters

Check if the keyboard is resting on a metal surface that can interfere with the Bluetooth signal.

Third-party input tools are not compatible with the keyboard

Due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS, functions of third-party input tools may be affected. Ensure your operating system and drivers are up to date.

Certain fn keys or multimedia keys do not work under Windows/Android mode

Functions of certain multimedia keys may be disabled due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS.

Safety Precautions

  • Keep the product, accessories, and packaging parts out of reach of children to prevent accidents and choking hazards.
  • Always keep the product dry to avoid corrosion.
  • Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures below -10°C (5°F) or above 50°C (131°F) to preserve the lifespan of the keyboard and battery.
