Quick Start Guide: Keycap Replacement

If you are a Windows user, please find the appropriate keycaps in the box, then follow the instructions below to find and replace the following keycaps.

Mac / Windows Keyboard Layout: A detailed diagram of the Keychron K5 keyboard layout is provided, showing standard key placement. Specific keys for Windows replacement are indicated.

Getting Started: Connectivity

Connecting Bluetooth

1. Connect Bluetooth

Instruction: Press Fn + 1 for 4 seconds to enter pairing mode. The device name will appear as 'Keychron K5'.

Instruction: Connect the keyboard using the provided Type-C cable.

Customization and Functionality

Changing Light Effect

3. Change Light Effect

Instruction: Press the light effect key (often indicated by a light bulb icon) to cycle through lighting effects.

Instruction (RGB Version): For RGB version, press Fn + Right Arrow / Left Arrow to change color.

Switching Function and Multimedia Keys (F1-F12)

4. Switch Between Function and Multimedia Keys (F1-F12)

For Windows: Press Fn + X + L (for 4 seconds) to switch.

For Mac: Go to System Settings > Keyboard > and enable the function keys. To use F5 & F6 as function keys, press Fn + K + C (for 4 seconds) and use the same shortcut to switch back.

Power Management and Voice Assistants

Disable Auto Sleep Mode

5. Disable Auto Sleep Mode

Text: The keyboard enters Auto Sleep Mode in 10 minutes of sitting idle to save battery.

Instruction: Press Fn + S + O (for 4 seconds) to disable the Auto Sleep Mode. To re-enable, press Fn + S + O for 4 seconds again.

Activate Siri / Cortana

6. Activate Siri / Cortana

For Siri on Mac: Go to System Preferences > Siri > select the 'Press Fn (Function) Space' option. (Siri key only works on macOS and does not work on iOS.)

For Cortana on Windows: Select Start > Settings > Cortana and select the shortcut by pressing Windows key + C key. (Windows Cortana is only available for Windows 10 and above OS. Cortana is only available in certain countries/regions and might not work everywhere.)

Charging

Plug the cable into a USB port and the other end into the keyboard port.

Charging Indicator: When battery is below 15%, a red battery blinking indicator will be triggered. A red light will stay on while charging; fully charged in around 3 hours, a green battery indicator will appear.

* Keychron K5 is compatible with all USB ports. For best performance, use a 5V 1A adapter or USB 3.0.

* The Keychron K5 can be charged in Bluetooth/on/off mode.

* Under wired mode, the charging indicator will not turn off.

* This product supports up to 5V charging voltage and 1A charging current. Keychron is not responsible for issues caused by improper charging.

Backlit Settings

Short press the light effect key (often indicated by a light bulb icon ?) to switch between different types of lighting effects.

When backlit is on, press the Down Arrow button to switch among them. Short press Fn and Left Arrow or Fn and Right Arrow to adjust light colors (For RGB version only).

Bluetooth and Wired Modes

Wired Mode

  1. Switch the toggle switch to Cable option (works only when a USB cable is plugged in).
  2. Connect the cable with your PC and keyboard.
  3. Backlit will be turned on.

* Under Wired Mode, the keyboard will not enter Battery Saver Mode.

Bluetooth Mode

  1. Switch the keyboard to Bluetooth option.
  2. Backlit will be turned on.
  3. Hold Fn + 1 key for 4 seconds to activate Bluetooth pairing (Bluetooth indicator flashes for 3 minutes).
  4. Search for the Bluetooth device 'Keychron K5' on your device and connect it (Bluetooth indicator turns off after successful pairing).

Note: This keyboard supports pairing up to 3 devices simultaneously via combination key Fn + 1 / Fn + 2 / Fn + 3.

* Slow or failed connections may occur due to different Bluetooth versions. Ensure device settings are correct.

Switch Bluetooth Devices

Short press combination key Fn + 1 / Fn + 2 / Fn + 3 to switch to other devices.

Reconnect

  1. Switch the keyboard to the Bluetooth option to activate it (connects to the last connected device by default).
  2. The Bluetooth indicator flashes for 4 seconds and automatically pairs with the last paired device.
  3. If the Bluetooth indicator is off, press any button to enter the connection again.

*The keyboard must have been paired with the device to perform this function.

Turn Off Keyboard

Switch the mode toggle to 'Off'.

Battery Saver

Under Bluetooth mode, the keyboard backlight turns off when inactive for 10 minutes. Tap any button to wake the keyboard.

To disable auto battery save mode, press Fn + S + O for 4 seconds. To re-enable, press Fn + S + O for 4 seconds.

Operating System and Input Method Switching

OS Switch

  1. MAC/iOS: Turn the switch to Mac/iOS when connected to a Mac or iOS operating system.
  2. WINDOWS/ANDROID: Switch the toggle to Windows/Android when connected to a Windows or Android operating system.

*When using the Windows/Android mode, the Alt keys are used for 'Windows' and 'Alt' functions.

Input Method Switch

For iOS:

Input method switch: Ctrl + Space

Caps Lock: Caps (Enable General > Keyboards > Hardware Keyboard > Caps Lock Language Switch).

For Android:

Input method switch: Shift or Shift + Space

NOTE: Functions of certain multimedia keys may be disabled due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS. It is recommended not to switch OS frequently as it may impact keyboard operations.

Troubleshooting

Unable to Pair Keyboard

Confirm the device is Bluetooth-capable. Restart the device and try pairing again.

Note: On Windows, new Bluetooth connections may require software updates. Wait at least 20 minutes after pairing before restarting the computer.

Confirm device settings: Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer, Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer, Alert me when a Bluetooth device wants to connect.

My Keyboard Isn't Working

For keyboard: Turn the keyboard off and back on.

For computer: Turn Bluetooth off and restart the computer (Windows).

For device: Go to Bluetooth settings, turn off Bluetooth, and 'forget' the keyboard. Restart the device and turn on Bluetooth to reconnect.

Bluetooth Connection Interrupted (within 10m)

Check if the keyboard is resting on a metal surface that can interfere with the Bluetooth signal.

Third-Party Input Tools Incompatibility

Due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS, third-party input tools may be affected. Ensure your operating system and drivers are up to date.

Certain Fn Keys or Multimedia Keys Not Working (Windows/Android Mode)

Functions may be disabled due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS.
