Operating Principals

The device uses digital electronic gyroscopes and acceleration sensors to control balance and motion, depending on the user's center of gravity. The device also uses a control system to drive the motors located within the wheels. It has a built-in inertia dynamic stabilization system that assists with balance when moving forward and backward, but not while turning.

TIP: To increase stability, shift weight to overcome centrifugal force during turns, especially at higher speeds.

WARNING: Any Hover-1 Beast that does not work properly can cause loss of control and falls. Inspect the entire device thoroughly before every ride, and do not ride it until any problems have been corrected.

Controls and Display

Turning Your Device On/Off

Power On: Take your device out of the box and place it flat on the floor. Press the power button (located on the rear of your device) once. Check the LED indicator (located in the center of your device). The battery indicator light should be lit, indicating the device is powered on.

Power Off: Press the power button once.

This model also has a self-balance function. Generally, the device will activate the self-balance function when powered on. If it doesn't activate, press the power button twice while the scooter is on.

Mat Sensor

There are four sensors under the foot mats. When the user steps off the scooter mats, it will automatically initiate self-calibration. When riding, ensure you are stepping on the foot mats. Do not step or stand on any other area. The Beast may vibrate or spin if weight and pressure are applied to only one foot mat.

Battery Indicator

The display board is located in the middle of the Beast.

When the LED light turns red, please recharge the device.

Running Indicator

When the operator triggers the foot mats, the Running Indicator LED will light up, indicating the system enters the running state. If the system has an error, the running LED light will turn red (see SAFETY ALERTS for more details).

Bluetooth Speaker

The Beast has powerful built-in wireless speakers for playing music while riding.

Pairing the Speaker

  1. Turn on your Beast; the speakers will “Ping” to announce Bluetooth® pairing mode.
  2. Place the Beast and the Bluetooth® device within operating distance (recommend within 3 feet).
  3. Ensure Bluetooth® is enabled on your phone or music device. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
  4. On your device, select "HY-BEAST" from the list of available Bluetooth® devices.
  5. If required, enter the PIN code "000000" and confirm.
  6. The Beast will say "Paired” when successfully paired.
  7. Pairing mode lasts for two minutes. If no devices are paired, the speaker returns to standby mode.
  8. If pairing is unsuccessful, turn off the Beast and re-pair.
  9. If your smartphone is out of range or the Beast's battery is low, the speaker may disconnect. The Beast will say "Disconnected." To reconnect, follow the aforementioned steps or recharge your scooter.

NOTE: Once paired, the speaker remembers the device and will pair automatically when the device's Bluetooth® is activated and in range. Re-pairing is not needed for previously connected devices. Your scooter can pair up to two multi-point devices.

Listening to Music

Once paired, stream music wirelessly. Only one speaker plays music; the other is for safety alerts. Select tracks on your device. All volume and track controls are managed via your music device. Refer to your device's user manual for streaming issues.

Before Riding

It is important to fully understand all elements of your Beast. Incorrect use may result in loss of control. Learn the functions of the various mechanisms before riding. Practice at slower speeds in a flat, open area before riding in public areas.

Pre-Ride Checklist

Ensure your Beast is in proper working order each time you ride. If a part is not functioning correctly, contact Customer Support.

WARNING: Any Hover-1 Beast that does not work properly can cause loss of control and falls. Do not ride a damaged Beast; replace damaged parts before riding.

Safety Precautions

Different localities and countries have laws governing riding on public roads. Check with local officials to ensure compliance.

Hover-1 is not liable for tickets or violations for not following local laws and regulations.

Your Beast is not equipped with reflectors. Riding in low visibility conditions is not recommended.

WARNING: In low-visibility conditions (fog, dusk, night), you may be difficult to see, potentially leading to a collision. Keep your headlight on and wear bright, reflective clothing.

Think about safety when riding to prevent accidents. Below is a helpful checklist for riders.

Safety Checklist

WARNING: Adult supervision is required. Never use in roadways, near motor vehicles, on or near steep inclines or steps, swimming pools, or other bodies of water. Always wear shoes and never allow more than one rider.

Riding Your Beast

WARNING: Failure to follow safety precautions can lead to device damage, voided warranty, property damage, serious bodily injury, and death.

Before using, familiarize yourself with operating procedures.

Operating Your Device

Ensure the device is fully charged before initial use. For charging instructions, see "CHARGING YOUR BEAST".

Stand directly behind your device and place one foot on the foot mat. Keep weight on the foot on the ground; otherwise, the device may move or vibrate, making it difficult to step on evenly with the other foot. When ready, shift weight to the foot on the device and step on with the second foot quickly and evenly.

Diagram illustrating the process of stepping onto the Hover-1 Beast.

NOTES: Stay relaxed and step on quickly, confidently, and evenly. Imagine climbing stairs. Look up once feet are even. The Beast may vibrate or spin if weight/pressure is applied to only one foot mat. This is normal.

Find your center of gravity. With weight distributed correctly and center of gravity level, you should be able to stand as if on the ground. It takes about 3-5 minutes to get comfortable standing and maintaining balance. A spotter can help you feel more secure. The Beast is intuitive and senses slight motion; anxiety or reservation can cause panic and unwanted movement.

To move, focus on your desired direction. Thinking about where you want to go shifts your center of gravity, propelling you. Your center of gravity determines movement, acceleration, deceleration, and stopping. Tilt your center of gravity in the direction you wish to move.

To turn, focus on the direction and stay relaxed.

WARNING: Do not turn sharply or at high speeds to avoid danger. Do not turn or ride quickly along slopes, as it may cause injury.

As you become comfortable, maneuvering becomes easier. At higher speeds, shift weight to overcome centrifugal force. Bend knees for bumps or uneven surfaces, then dismount and carry the Beast to a safe operating surface.

Dismounting Your Device

NOTES: Stay relaxed and focus on your center of gravity for control.

Dismounting can be easy but incorrect dismounting may cause falls. From a stopped position, lift one leg and place it back on the ground (STEPPING BACK). Then step off completely.

WARNING: Lift your leg completely off the foot mat to clear the device when stepping back to dismount. Failure to do so may send the Beast into a tailspin.

Weight and Speed Limitations

Speed and weight limits are for your safety. Do not exceed these limits:

WARNING: Overweight exertion may increase the possibility of injury or product damage.

NOTES: To prevent injury, when max speed is reached, the Beast will beep to alert the user and tilt the rider slowly back.

Operating Range

The Beast can travel up to 8.4 miles on a full charge in ideal conditions. Factors affecting operating range include:

Balance & Calibration

If your Beast is unbalanced, vibrating, or not turning properly, calibrate it using these steps:

  1. Place the Beast on a flat, horizontal surface. Foot mats should be even and not tilted. Ensure the charger is unplugged and the board is off.
  2. Press and hold the ON/OFF button for 15 seconds. The scooter will turn on, lighting the battery indicator.
  3. Turn the board off, then turn it back on. Press the power button twice. Calibration is complete.

Safety Alerts

If there is a system error or illegal operation, the device will alert the user. The Running Indicator Light will turn RED, and a beep sound will alert you to take precaution and cease operation, potentially causing the device to stop suddenly.

These alerts should not be ignored. Take appropriate action to correct any illegal operation, failure, or errors.

WARNING: When the Beast turns off during a Safety Alert, all operations halt. Do not continue riding. Turn your Beast off and back on to unlock it from a Safety Lock.
