Introduction
The eSID 03-06 Gen3 is the third generation of the eSID for Saab 9-3 vehicles (model years 2003-2006). This version is designed for simplified installation, typically completed in under 10 minutes without requiring any cable cutting or splicing. The eSID is installed behind the ICM (Information and Communication Module) unit.
The ICM unit exists in three different levels:
- ICM1 – No Display
- ICM2 – Monographic/Green Display
- ICM3 – LCD/Color Display
The figure below illustrates the typical appearance of the ICM and SID (Saab Information Display) in a vehicle equipped with ICM3:
[Dashboard view showing SID, SIDC, and ICM3. The SID is located near the windscreen, displaying time and radio information. The SIDC is the control panel below the air vents. The ICM3 is a color display unit.]
The ICM unit reads switch statuses from the SIDC (SID Control) and manages the output to the SID.
eSID Components
The eSID system consists of one electronic control unit and an adapter harness.

Step 4: Separate ICM Connector
Lift the plastic lock on the ICM connector and slide out the sub-connector. Be cautious not to damage the fiber optic cable during this process.

Step 5: Insulate Sub-connector
Apply electrical tape to the ICM sub-connector to prevent any short circuits.

Step 6: Connect eSID to Harness
Connect the eSID unit to the adapter harness, ensuring the connector is oriented correctly.

Step 7: Connect Harness to ICM
Connect the adapter harness between the ICM connector and the sub-connector.
Note: The sub-connector has two larger pins. Ensure it is connected with the correct orientation; it will only fit one way. Do not force the connection.
