Hybrid Electric Vehicle Features*
Silent Key Start: Vehicle may not make engine noise when starting. Look for the 'Ready' indicator light.
Unique Driving Characteristics: Hybrid combines electric and gasoline propulsion. Gas engine starts/stops automatically. Engine may shut down when coasting, stopping, or standing. Engine may start/remain running due to low battery charge, temperature, towing, drive modes, paddle shifters, acceleration, hill ascent, or cabin temperature needs. Braking includes hydraulic and regenerative braking. Regenerative braking captures energy and stores it in the high-voltage battery.
Pedestrian Alert System: Creates a subtle sound to alert pedestrians at low speeds. System is on when vehicle is running and not in park (P).
Power Flow: Hybrid-specific screens display power settings, showing where power is coming from and where it is used.
Transmission Operation: Engine and electric motor propel the vehicle through the automatic transmission for fuel efficiency and performance.
Refueling a Hybrid Vehicle: Press button on left side of instrument panel to open fuel door. Refuel within 20 minutes, or press button again. Fuel pump nozzle may shut off automatically.
Hybrid Battery: Contains high-voltage components and wiring labeled with orange markings. Do not come in contact with these components. Battery cooling system uses air conditioning. Engine may continue to run during extended downhill driving for engine braking without using fuel. A slight whine or whistle may be heard from the electric motor.
Energy Saving Tips
- Use smooth acceleration and braking.
- Carry only essential items.
- Seasonal fuel blends can impact efficiency.
- Minimize idling time.
- Avoid extreme temperatures for battery efficiency.
- Use accessories wisely; they draw electrical energy.
- Check tire inflation for optimal fuel economy.
Essential Features
Refueling: Place vehicle in park (P), switch ignition off. For HEVs, press button to open fuel filler door. Insert nozzle to the first notch and leave until done pumping. Keep nozzle level. Slowly raise and remove nozzle, then close fuel door. Use included fuel filler funnel for refueling from a container.
Fuel Tank Capacity and Fuel Info: Fuel tank size varies by engine. Flex fuel vehicles can use regular unleaded, E85 ethanol, or a mixture. For non-flex fuel vehicles, use regular unleaded gasoline with an 87 octane rating. Premium fuel recommended for severe duty usage.
Rear Window Buffeting: Lower the opposite window if a pulsing noise occurs when one window is open.
Trailer Tow: Refer to Owner's Manual for weight, details, limitations, safety information, and proper equipment.
Towing Your Vehicle: Towing behind an RV or other vehicle is limited. Refer to Owner's Manual for details.
Location of Spare Tire and Tools: Spare tire and tools are under the load floor. Dissimilar spare tire is for emergency use only.
Roadside Assistance Program: Ford provides complimentary Roadside Assistance for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Honored in 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Towing services available to qualified Ford or Lincoln dealers within distance limits. Pay a fee for service outside warranty coverage.
