Front Panel Controls
The front panel offers comprehensive control over the amplifier's functions. The controls are labeled A through K:
- A. CHANNEL 1 INPUT: A combo jack accepting XLR and high-impedance 1/4" inputs. Use for connecting instruments or microphones. The XLR input provides phantom power for microphones that require it (avoid using ribbon microphones as they can be damaged by phantom power).
- B. VOLUME: Adjusts the overall volume level, including headphone and USB/line outputs.
- C. FX LEVEL: Sets the intensity of the effect selected via the FX SELECT control.
- D. FX SELECT: Choose from various effects including room and hall reverb, echo, delay, chorus, vibratone, delay + chorus, and delay + reverb. Turning the control fully clockwise or counter-clockwise deactivates the effect. An optional footswitch provides tap tempo control for delay time on delay, chorus, delay + chorus, and delay + reverb effects.
- E. FX DISPLAY: LEDs illuminate to show the effect setting for each channel.
- F. POWER INDICATOR: For Acoustic Junior and Acoustic SFX II, this indicator lights green when the amplifier is on. For the Acoustic Junior Go, it indicates battery status: green for sufficient charge, yellow for low charge, and red for insufficient charge or a faulty battery. When plugged into AC power, the indicator blinks during charging and stays solid green when fully charged. If charging with power off, it blinks less intensely during charging and stays green for five minutes after completion before turning off.
- G. PAIR: Bluetooth pairing button. Refer to the "Bluetooth" section for details.
- H. STEREO SFX (Acoustic SFX II Model Only): Adjusts the amount of the stereo field expansion (SFX) effect, creating a 360-degree stereo image using built-in effects and the side-mounted speaker. SFX requires an effect to be selected via FX SELECT (D) and FX LEVEL (C) set above minimum. Delay effects will be panned in stereo mode via the PHONES output (N) and BALANCED LINE OUTPUTS (P) only when this control is set above minimum.
- I. PHASE: Press to invert the speaker channel polarity to reduce feedback, affecting both speakers and headphone/line outputs.
- J. LOW, MID, AND HIGH: Adjusts the bass, midrange, and treble tone frequencies respectively.
- K. LOOPER BUTTONS (REC/DUB, PLAY/STOP, UNDO): Functions for recording/dubbing, playback/stopping, and undoing. Refer to the "Looper" section.
Note: The opposite side of the control panel features identical controls for the second channel.
Refer to the "Footswitch" section for functions not found on the control panel, such as remote effect on/off, tap tempo control for delay time, and the built-in tuner.
Rear Panel Connections
The rear panel provides various input and output connections:
- L. POWER: Turns the amplifier on and off.
- M. IEC POWER INPUT: Connects the IEC power cord to the amplifier. For the Acoustic Junior, AC power must be connected to charge the battery.
- N. PHONES: 1/8" stereo headphone output. Automatically mutes the speaker output when headphones are plugged in.
- O. AUX IN: 1/8" stereo input for connecting an external audio player. Use the external device's volume control to set the playback volume.
- P. BALANCED LINE OUTPUTS: Balanced XLR line-level outputs for connecting to external sound reinforcement and recording devices. Control panel settings affect the signal from these outputs, including auxiliary input and Bluetooth signals.
- Q. MONO/STEREO: The "Out" position provides normal left/right stereo effect output, summing channels 1 and 2. The "In" position configures both outputs to mono, usable with the MONO CONFIGURE button (S).
- R. GROUND LIFT: The "Out" position is for normal (grounded) operation. The "In" position can help reduce unwanted line noise.
- S. MONO CONFIGURE: When the MONO/STEREO button (Q) is engaged, "Out" sums channels 1 and 2 to both output jacks (CH2 + CH1), useful for small PA systems with minimal input. "In" provides separate outputs for channel 1 and channel 2 (CH2 or CH1), useful for isolating instrument/vocal mixes for recording or performance.
- T. USB PORTS: The amplifier has a USB port for audio recording. Connect to a computer with recording software using a micro USB cable (not included). The "Fender Acoustic" will appear as an audio recording device in your computer's audio control panel. For assistance with USB recording setup and usage, visit the "Connected Amps" section at https://support.fender.com. The stereo USB output contains channels 1 and 2 summed (including auxiliary input and Bluetooth signals).
- U. RECOVER: For Fender service personnel use only.
- V. FIRMWARE UPDATE: If a firmware update is recommended, instructions will be posted at https://support.fender.com.
- W. FOOTSWITCH: 1/4" input jack for connecting the optional MGT-4 four-button footswitch. Refer to the "Footswitch" section.
Footswitch Operation
Note: Apply the included magnetic overlay to the optional MGT-4 four-button footswitch for use with these amplifiers.
The footswitch provides hands-free control:
- X. MODE LED: Indicates whether channel 1, channel 2, or looper mode is selected via the MODE BUTTON (Y).
- Y. MODE BUTTON/LED: Press repeatedly to select Channel 1, Channel 2, or Looper mode, as indicated by the MODE LED (X). In tuner mode, the red LED illumination indicates a flatter pitch.
- Z. FUNCTION BUTTON 1 / REC/DUB: Press to engage the "FX BYPASS" function, which disables effects on the active channel. In tuner mode, the red LED illumination indicates a flatter pitch. For looper functionality, this button is used for "REC/DUB".
- AA. DISPLAY WINDOW: Shows selected mode and function information.
- BB. FUNCTION BUTTON 2 / PLAY/STOP: Press repeatedly to activate the "FX SELECT" function, which cycles through effects from the front panel's FX DISPLAY (E) top to bottom on the active channel. In tuner mode, the red LED illumination indicates a sharper pitch. For looper functionality, this button is used for "PLAY/STOP".
- CC. FUNCTION BUTTON 3 / TAP/TEMPO/UNDO: Controls time-based effects (reverb, delay, delay + chorus, delay + reverb) for both channels. Tap at least twice at your desired tempo to set the delay time for the active effect(s); the red LED above the button will blink accordingly. TAP TEMPO is global for all modes, allowing tempo changes between effects while maintaining the same tempo. Hold this button to enter hands-free tuner mode, where the tuner reads the audio signal from channel 1 or 2, as selected by the MODE BUTTON (Y). The four red LEDs above the footswitch buttons (MODE and FUNCTION BUTTON LEDs) indicate the degree of flat and sharp pitch (the red LED illumination above this button indicates a sharper pitch). The CENTER TUNER LED (DD) illuminates green when the correct pitch is achieved. For looper functionality, this button is used for "UNDO".
- DD. CENTER TUNER LED: In tuner mode, the green LED illumination indicates the correct pitch.
Looper Functionality
The Looper mode allows users to record loops up to 90 seconds long and overdub subsequent parts. Any number of overdubs can be layered over the original recorded part; however, only the last overdub created can be undone.
Looper functions can be operated manually using the front panel LOOPER BUTTONS (K) or hands-free using the footswitch in looper mode.
- Recording: To start loop recording, press the "REC/DUB" button on the front panel (K) or press the footswitch's MODE BUTTON (Y) until the "LOOPER" MODE LED (X) illuminates, then press the footswitch's FUNCTION BUTTON 1 (Z) labeled "REC/DUB". The "REC/DUB" button/LED will flash, and the footswitch's DISPLAY WINDOW (AA) will show "REC", indicating loop recording mode. Record a phrase of any length up to 90 seconds.
- Playback and Overdubbing: To stop recording and automatically start playback of the first phrase, press the "PLAY/STOP" button (on the front panel or footswitch). The "PLAY/STOP" button/LED will illuminate, and the footswitch's DISPLAY WINDOW (AA) will show "PLA" for playback. To stop playback, press "PLAY/STOP" again; the footswitch's DISPLAY WINDOW (AA) will show "STP". Alternatively, after finishing the first musical phrase, press "REC/DUB" again (on the front panel or footswitch) to immediately enter overdub mode. The "REC/DUB" button/LED will continue to flash, and the footswitch's DISPLAY WINDOW (AA) will show "DUB", indicating the loop is in overdub mode and a second musical phrase can be recorded over the first. Overdub mode can also be activated during the first phrase's playback or after stopping playback by pressing "REC/DUB" again. Continue overdubbing musical phrases as desired. Once overdubs are recorded, press "PLAY/STOP" to start and stop playback of all recorded parts.
- UNDO Function: During recording, playback, or stopping of the first musical phrase, the user can undo the recording if desired by pressing the looper's "UNDO" button (on the front panel or footswitch). This will stop the recording, and the footswitch's DISPLAY WINDOW (AA) will show three dashes, indicating that everything recorded has been erased. If overdubs have been added, the UNDO function only applies to the last recorded overdub; previous overdubs cannot be undone.
- Clearing the Looper: To clear all looper content, press "PLAY/STOP" (once if playing, twice if recording or overdubbing) to stop recording. Then, with the loop stopped, pressing the "REC/DUB" button will start a new recording, effectively clearing the previously recorded audio.
When using the looper, note that:
- Recorded audio is not saved when the amplifier is turned off.
- The looper output is mono only (no stereo effects are generated).
- The VOLUME control (B) does not affect the looper when a recording has been made.
- The looper can be used with both channels; both inputs (A) are automatically mixed equally with their respective volume levels.
Bluetooth Connectivity
- Press and hold the PAIR button (G) for three seconds to activate pairing mode. The PAIR button will flash and then remain illuminated when a successful connection is made (if the connection fails, it will time out after two minutes). The amplifier will then automatically pair with the last connected device (if available).
- To connect, enable Bluetooth on your external device, scan for displayed Bluetooth devices, and select "FENDER ACOUSTIC". Use your external device's volume control to set the Bluetooth volume level via the amplifier.
- To disconnect or connect to a different device, disable Bluetooth on your mobile device or press and hold the PAIR button (G) for three seconds. The amplifier will return to pairing mode for two minutes until a successful connection is made.
OPERATING TIP: The amplifier streams audio only from the user's mobile device. Phone calls will not pass through the amplifier, but streaming audio will be muted when a call is received. To avoid such streaming interruptions, enable airplane mode on your mobile device and manually enable Bluetooth.
