Fender Acoustic Junior, Acoustic Junior Go, Acoustic SFX II Owner's Manual

Introduction

Fender's Acoustic Junior, Acoustic Junior Go, and Acoustic SFX II amplifiers deliver rich, natural tone for acoustic-electric guitar and microphone, featuring custom wood cabinets. All three amplifiers offer Bluetooth wireless streaming [?], studio-quality stereo effects, AUX input, and headphone output [?]. They also include a configurable XLR line output and a USB jack [?] for audio recording.

The Acoustic Junior and Acoustic Junior Go amplifiers are portable systems ideal for solo performances, each equipped with two channels and studio-quality stereo effects. The Acoustic Junior Go is powered by a convenient, eco-friendly rechargeable battery, providing up to 5 hours of use on a full charge at maximum volume. With 100 watts of power, a single 8-inch speaker, a compression tweeter, and a convenient tilt-back kickstand, both amps are lightweight and suitable for guitar & vocal rehearsals and performances in various venues.

For solo performances or stage use with a band, the Acoustic SFX II amplifier features a dual-channel design with studio-quality stereo effects and the impressive Stereo Field Expansion (SFX) technology. This technology goes beyond traditional stereo to envelop the listener in a 360-degree soundstage, creating a rich acoustic experience. It delivers up to 200 watts of power, providing ample performance for guitar and vocal applications.

Control Panel

The control panel features various knobs and buttons for adjusting sound and effects. Key controls include VOLUME, FX LEVEL, FX SELECT, POWER [⚡], PHASE, LOOPER controls (REC/DUB [?], PLAY/STOP [▶️/⏹️], UNDO [↩️]), and EQ (LOW, MID, HIGH). Channel 1 has inputs and effect selection, with Channel 2 mirroring these functions.

Key Controls:

  • A. CHANNEL (Input): Combo jack for XLR and 1/4" high-impedance inputs. Provides phantom power for condenser microphones via XLR.
  • B. VOLUME: Adjusts the overall output volume level.
  • C. FX LEVEL: Controls the intensity of the selected effect.
  • D. FX SELECT: Chooses from various effects like Room Reverb, Hall Reverb, Echo, Delay, Chorus, Vibratone, DLY+CHO, DLY+REV, and STEREO SFX. Turning fully clockwise or counter-clockwise deactivates the effect. An optional footswitch allows tap tempo control for certain delay effects.
  • E. Effect Display: LEDs indicate the currently selected effect for each channel.
  • F. POWER Indicator: Shows amplifier power status (green for on [⚡]). For Acoustic Junior Go, it also indicates battery charge level (green: full, yellow: low, red: insufficient/faulty).
  • G. PAIR: Bluetooth [?] pairing button.
  • H. STEREO SFX (Acoustic SFX II only): Adjusts the spread of the Stereo Field Expansion effect for a 360-degree stereo image.
  • I. PHASE: Inverts speaker polarity to help reduce feedback.
  • J. LOW, MID, HIGH: Tone controls for bass, mid, and treble frequencies.
  • K. LOOPER: Controls [?] for recording, overdubbing, playback [▶️/⏹️], stopping, and undoing [↩️] loop performances.

Channel 2 on the opposite side of the control panel mirrors the functions of Channel 1.

For functions like remote effect control, tap tempo, and tuner, refer to the "Foot Switch" section.

Rear Panel

The rear panel provides essential connectivity options. These include the POWER [⚡] switch, IEC power input, PHONES [?] output, AUX IN, BALANCED LINE OUT, MONO/STEREO and GROUND LIFT switches, USB PORT [?], RECOVER port (for technicians), FIRMWARE UPDATE port, and FTSW (Foot Switch) jack.

Key Ports and Controls:

  • L. POWER: Turns the amplifier on and off [⚡].
  • M. IEC POWER INPUT: Connects the IEC power cord. Required for Acoustic Junior Go battery charging.
  • N. PHONES: 1/8" stereo headphone output [?] that mutes the speakers.
  • O. AUX IN: 1/8" stereo input for external audio players.
  • P. BALANCED LINE OUT: Balanced XLR output for connecting to PA systems or recording devices.
  • Q. MONO/STEREO: Selects between stereo output (out) or summed mono output (in).
  • R. GROUND LIFT: Helps reduce line noise by lifting the ground connection (in).
  • S. MONO CONFIG: Configures output for mono summing (out) or separate channel outputs (in).
  • T. USB PORT: For audio recording to a computer [?]. Requires a micro USB cable.
  • U. RECOVER: For service technicians.
  • V. FIRMWARE UPDATE: For updating the amplifier's firmware.
  • W. FTSW: 1/4" jack for connecting an optional footswitch.

Foot Switch

The included magnetic overlay is designed for use with the optional MGT-4 4-button footswitch. The overlay helps identify the footswitch functions.

Footswitch Functions:

  • X. MODE LED: Indicates the selected mode (Channel 1, Channel 2, or Looper [?]).
  • Y. MODE Button/LED: Cycles through modes. In tuner mode, the red LED indicates a flat pitch.
  • Z. FUNCTION Button/LED 1: Engages FX BYPASS or functions as REC/DUB [?] for the looper. In tuner mode, the red LED indicates a slightly flat pitch.
  • AA. Display Window: Shows current mode and function information.
  • BB. FUNCTION Button/LED 2: Cycles through effects (FX SELECT) or functions as PLAY/STOP [▶️/⏹️] for the looper. In tuner mode, the red LED indicates a slightly sharp pitch.
  • CC. FUNCTION Button/LED 3: Controls tempo for time-based effects (tap tempo) and functions as UNDO [↩️] for the looper. It also activates the tuner mode when held. The red LEDs indicate pitch deviation, and the center green LED (DD) indicates correct pitch.
  • DD. Center Tuner LED: Illuminates green when the pitch is accurate in tuner mode.

Looper

The Looper mode allows recording loops up to 90 seconds with overdubbing capabilities. Only the last overdub can be undone.

Operation:

  • Recording: Press the "REC/DUB" [?] button (on the control panel or footswitch) to start recording. The button/LED will blink, and the display will show "REC".
  • Playback & Overdubbing: Press "PLAY/STOP" [▶️/⏹️] to play the recorded loop. Press "REC/DUB" [?] again to enter overdub mode and record additional layers. Press "PLAY/STOP" [▶️/⏹️] to stop playback.
  • Undo: Press the "UNDO" [↩️] button to cancel the last recorded passage or overdub.
  • Clearing the Looper: Press "PLAY/STOP" [▶️/⏹️] twice (if recording/overdubbing) or once (if playing) to stop, then press "REC/DUB" [?] to clear and start a new recording.

Recorded audio is not saved when the amplifier is turned off. Looper output is mono. The VOLUME control does not affect the looper after recording. Both input channels are mixed to the looper.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Pairing mode is activated by pressing and holding the PAIR button [?] for 3 seconds. The amplifier will automatically connect to the last paired device if available.

To connect, enable Bluetooth [?] on your external device, scan for devices, and select "FENDER ACOUSTIC". Adjust volume using your device's volume control.

To disconnect or connect to a new device, disable Bluetooth [?] on your mobile device or press and hold the PAIR button [?] for 3 seconds to re-enter pairing mode.

Performance Tip: The amplifier streams audio only from your mobile device. Phone calls will mute the audio stream. For uninterrupted playback, consider using airplane mode with Bluetooth [?] manually enabled.
