High Power Digital Ultrasonic Sensors FW Series

Introducing the Keyence FW Series, a tough, super multi-reflective sensor unaffected by a target's material, color, or luster.

Key Features & Benefits

The FW Series integrates digital technology and ultrasonic waves to produce super multi-reflective type sensors with incredible stability for any type of target.

Reason 1: Can be used for all types of targets

Easily detects metal, glass, liquid level, or other targets that are difficult for conventional reflective-type photoelectric sensors. Detections are not influenced by the color, pattern, or luster of the target surface.

Illustration: A diagram showing the Keyence FW Series ultrasonic sensor's ability to detect various materials including black rubber, glass, metal, and fluid levels.

Reason 2: High stability and reliability

Features the industry-first A.W.S. (Active Wave Stabilizer) algorithm, which stabilizes detection by avoiding the influence of target vibration or external disturbances. This function executes optimal processing according to the detecting condition and cancels fluctuations even when the receiving condition of the ultrasonic wave changes due to target vibration.

Reason 3: Resistant to mist and dirt

The intense ultrasonic wave penetrates dust and dirt to detect the target. The sensor body is IP67 rated and offers excellent environmental resistance. The easily detachable connector is also IP67 rated.

Reason 4: Unaffected by the background

The N.O.D. (Nearest Object Detection) function detects only the target located nearest to the sensor, eliminating the need to consider background luster or shape. Reliable detection is ensured without measures like tilting the sensor or changing the background color.

Advanced Functionality & Operation

Dual Digital Display

The digital indicator displays the distance in an easy-to-understand numerical format.

Illustration: Image of the FW-V20 digital amplifier with its dual digital display showing numerical values.

Easy Set Up with One-Button Operation

Settings can be configured by simply pressing the [SET] button, with or without the target in place.

Target Height Display

This function is convenient for differentiating target heights or detecting liquid levels. The height of the target or liquid level can be displayed numerically, making it easy for the user to understand and set preset values. This offers a clear advantage over conventional reflective sensors with unitless numerical displays or LED bar indicators.

Illustration: A diagram showing a numerical height display with preset values (e.g., 110, 100, 120) and a scale from 0.

Convenient Sensitivity Adjustment Methods

  • 1-point zone tuning: Useful for detection with a background. Pressing the [SET] button once enables detection of only a target at a certain height, without detecting the background. ?
  • Conveyer tuning: A preset value is tuned automatically to a level unaffected by background vibrations (e.g., on a conveyor). ?

Illustrations: Diagrams for 1-point zone tuning and Conveyer tuning, showing target and background detection.

Additional Functions

  • Chatter prevention function and display averaging mode: Prevents output chattering by delaying response time, especially for liquid level detections with ripples. The display averaging mode reduces display fluctuations. ⚙️
  • Power-saving function: Reduces power consumption by approximately 20% when the sensor is not being operated.
  • External shift function: Effective for environments with slight sensitivity differences. Compensates for displayed values that fluctuate due to variations in temperature or background position. ?️
  • Bank switching function: Enables detection of up to four types of targets by external input. ?
  • Analog monitor output: Features a 4 to 20 mA analog output. ?
