Installation and Operating Instructions
General Instructions
Read these instructions carefully prior to installation and use. Keep this manual for future reference. The product may only be used as set out in the assembly and operating instructions. The guarantee is only valid should the product be used in the manner intended and in accordance with the instructions.
Application Area
The AREC3200C is a compact air curtain for recessed mounting. Recommended installation height for ambient and electrically heated units is 3.2 metres (10.5 feet), and for water-heated units is 2.8 metres (9.2 feet). The air curtain has an integrated control system and can also be remote controlled.
Operation: Air is drawn in from underneath and blown downwards, shielding the door opening and minimizing heat loss. For optimal effect, the unit must extend the full width of the opening. The outlet grille is adjustable, typically angled outwards for best protection against incoming air. Building negative pressure significantly reduces efficiency; ensure ventilation is balanced.
Mounting
The air curtain is installed horizontally with the outlet air grille facing downwards, concealed in a false ceiling. The service hatch must be accessible. Units are ready for suspension using threaded bars (M8) on the outside or inside. For wider doorways, units can be mounted in series. Minimum distance from outlet to floor for electrically heated units is 1800 mm (70.9 in).
Mounting on threaded bars outside the unit: 1. Loosen and turn mounting brackets (fixed during transport) and screw them into place on the unit exterior. 2. Hang on threaded bars (M8) using accessories. 3. Adjust height with the lower nut to level the frame with the ceiling, then lock with the upper nut.
Mounting on threaded bars inside the unit: 1. Loosen and screw mounting brackets into the unit's intended internal holes. Remove service hatch, outlet grille, and covering plates to access. 2. Hang on threaded bars (M8) using accessories. 3. Adjust height with the lower nut to level the frame with the ceiling, then lock with the upper nut.
Electrical Installation
Installation requires an isolator switch with at least 3 mm contact separation. Wiring must be done by a qualified electrician according to local regulations and the latest IEE wiring regulations. The control system is pre-installed.
Unit Types and Connections
Unit without heating or with water heating: Electrical connection is on the top or side. Control (208V~) connects to a terminal block. Cable glands must meet protection class requirements. Largest cable diameter for terminal block is AWG6.
Unit with electrical heating: Power supply (208V3~/480V3~/600V3~) connects to a terminal block. 480V3~/600V3~ supply is transformed to 230V~ via an internal transformer and routed through 2x 10A fuses. 208V3~ supply connects internally through 2x 10A fuses.
Water Coil Connections: Connections must have shut-off valves. Water coil is equipped with drain and vent valves. Connections are DN15 (1/2'') with external thread. Use a pipe wrench to avoid straining pipes during connection.
Control Options
Stepless airflow control with door contact/position limit switch: Fan runs at low speed when the door is closed, and high speed when open. This provides low response time and optimal protection.
Start-up
Initial start-up may produce smoke or odor from dust on the heating element, which is normal and temporary.
Connecting the Water Coil (W)
Installation must be by an authorized installer. The water coil has copper tubes with aluminum fins and is suitable for closed water heating systems only. It must not be connected to a mains pressure or open water system. A regulating valve (Frico valve kit) is recommended.
Filter (W)
An internal air filter protects the water coil from dirt and blockage.
Service, Repairs and Maintenance
Before service: Disconnect power supply. Open service hatch by loosening snap fixings (turn 90°). Ensure hatch is held while loosening. After service, close hatch securely.
Maintenance
Unit with water heating: Clean the appliance filter regularly for optimal air curtain effect and heat emission. Frequency depends on local conditions. Inlet and exhaust grilles, impeller, and elements can be vacuum cleaned or wiped with a damp cloth. Avoid strong alkaline or acidic cleaning agents.
All units: Fan motors and other components are maintenance-free. Clean at least twice a year. Use a brush when vacuuming to avoid damaging sensitive parts.
Overheating
Units with electrical heating have overheat protection. If triggered, disconnect power, determine and rectify the cause, then press the red reset button located inside the air curtain near the terminal box. Units may have one or two buttons depending on size.
Motors have an integral thermal safety cut-out that resets automatically when the temperature returns to normal operating limits.
Replacing Motor or Impeller
Remove frame and side panel. Unscrew motor from fan, disconnect cables, remove motor screws, and lift out. Install new motor/impeller in reverse order.
Replacing Heating Elements/Heating Package (E)
Mark and disconnect cables. Remove mounting screws, lift out heating elements/package. Install new elements/package in reverse order.
Replacing the Water Coil (W)
Shut off water supply, open vent and drain valves. Disconnect coil connections when empty. Remove covering plate and mounting screws. Move filter to the new coil. Install new coil in reverse order.
Draining the Water Coil (W)
The drain valve is on the underside of the coil on the connector side, accessible via the service hatch.
Troubleshooting
Fans not running or performing improperly: Check control system functions/settings and ensure intake grille/filter is clean.
No heat: Check control system functions, internal sensor, and settings. For electrical heating, check power supply, fuses, and circuit-breaker, and ensure overheat protection is not deployed. For water heating, check if the water coil is air-free, has sufficient flow/pressure, and if incoming water is adequately heated.
If faults persist, contact a qualified service technician.
Residual Current Circuit Breaker (E)
If an RCD trips upon connection, it may be due to moisture in the heating element, especially after periods of disuse or storage in damp environments. This is not a fault. Rectify by connecting the appliance to a socket without an RCD temporarily to allow moisture to evaporate. This may take several hours to days. Periodically running the unit briefly when not in use can prevent this.
Packaging
Packaging materials are environmentally considerate and recyclable.
Safety Precautions
- For electrically heated products, use a 300 mA residual current circuit breaker for fire protection.
- Keep areas around air intake and exhaust grilles clear of obstructions.
- Do not cover the unit partially or fully, as this can cause overheating and a fire risk.
- Use lifting equipment for installation.
- Children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced capabilities, may use the appliance under supervision and with understanding of hazards. Children must not play with the appliance, and cleaning/maintenance should not be done by children unsupervised.
- Children under 3 years must be kept away unless supervised.
- Children aged 3-8 years may only switch the appliance on/off under supervision and with understanding of hazards.
- Children aged 3-8 years must not plug in, regulate, or clean the appliance.
- CAUTION: Some parts can become very hot and cause burns. Exercise caution where children and vulnerable people are present.
Handling at End of Working Life
This product may contain substances potentially dangerous to the environment. Dispose of it at designated environmental recycling collection points, not with general household waste. Contact local authorities for details.
Control System
The control system is integrated into the air curtain and can be regulated via a remote control or a control panel located inside the service hatch.
Control Panel Descriptions:
- Unit with electrical heating or water heating: Features fan step selection (1/2/3), heat step (half/full power for electric, on/off for water), and on/off button. Displays temperature in °C.
- Unit without heating: Features fan step selection (1/2/3) and on/off button.
Remote Control: Allows on/off, fan step, and heating step adjustments.
Functional Test: Started using the remote control. Push and hold for 5 seconds. Fan and heating steps are tested in 10-second intervals, indicated by LEDs. All LEDs flash for 30 seconds upon completion.
Temperature Control: If temperature exceeds 50°C, the fan runs at full speed for 2 minutes. If temperature rises above 50°C again within 5 minutes, an overheating alarm is triggered (red LEDs flash, buttons locked). To resolve, disconnect power, identify and fix the cause, then reconnect the unit.
