EPP-500 series

The MEAN WELL EPP-500 series is a 500W highly reliable green PCB type power supply with a high power density, featuring a compact 5"x3" footprint. It accepts 80~264VAC input and offers various output voltages between 12V and 54V. The working efficiency is up to 94%, and the extremely low no-load power consumption is below 0.5W. The EPP-500 is designed for use in both Class I (with FG) and Class II (no FG) system designs. It includes complete protection functions and complies with international safety regulations such as TUV BS EN/EN62368-1, TUV BS EN/EN60335-1, UL62368-1, and IEC62368-1. This series serves as a high price-to-performance power supply solution for various industrial applications.

NOTE

  1. All parameters NOT specially mentioned are measured at 230VAC input, rated load and 25°C of ambient temperature.
  2. Ripple & noise are measured at 20MHz of bandwidth by using a 12" twisted pair-wire terminated with a 0.1μF & 47μF parallel capacitor.
  3. Tolerance : includes set up tolerance, line regulation and load regulation.
  4. Derating may be needed under low input voltages. Please check the derating curve for more details.
  5. The ambient temperature derating of 3.5°C/1000m with fanless models and of 5°C/1000m with fan models for operating altitude higher than 2000m(6500ft).
  6. The power supply is considered a component which will be installed into a final equipment. All the Class I (with FG) EMC test are been executed by mounting the unit on a 360mm*360mm metal plate with 1mm of thickness. final equipment must be re-confirmed that it still meets EMC directives. Block Diagram

The block diagram illustrates the internal signal flow of the power supply. Input power (I/P) first passes through an EMI filter. It then goes to a Rectifier & PFC stage, followed by a Power Switching PWM Control stage. This stage feeds into a Detection Circuit which monitors Over Voltage Protection (OVP) and Over Load Protection (OLP) via a Control signal. The main output is regulated. Auxiliary outputs include +5V Standby (derived from a separate detection circuit and rectifier/filter), +12V Fan Supply, Power Good (PG) signal, and PS-ON signal. The diagram also shows the connection for Frame Ground (FG) and indicates the PFC fosc (90KHz) and PWM fosc (100KHz).

Derating Curve

The Derating Curve graph shows the maximum load in Watts (W) on the Y-axis against Ambient Temperature in degrees Celsius (°C) on the X-axis. For operation with a 25CFM fan, the curve indicates that at 50°C ambient temperature, the maximum load is approximately 500W. Below 50°C, the full 500W is available. As temperature increases, the maximum allowable load decreases. For convection cooling, the limits are lower: around 320W at 230VAC input and 310W at 115VAC input at 50°C ambient. The curve extends to 70°C, where the load capacity is significantly reduced.

Output Derating VS Input Voltage

The Output Derating VS Input Voltage graph displays the percentage of Load (%) on the Y-axis against Input Voltage in VAC (60Hz) on the X-axis. The graph shows that from 90VAC to 264VAC, the power supply can operate at 100% load. Below 90VAC, the load capacity is derated. For example, at 80VAC, the load is limited to approximately 50%.

Mechanical Specification

The Mechanical Specification diagram provides the physical dimensions of the power supply. The overall dimensions are 127mm (Length) x 76.2mm (Width) x 41mm (Height). Key mounting points and connector locations are indicated. The diagram shows a Top View, Bottom View, and Side View. It highlights the 25CFM fan and indicates the direction of airflow is from the bottom towards the top. Mounting holes are specified, including four M3 holes on the bottom with a 4-M3 L=3 specification, and four 4-φ5.5 holes. The AC input connector (CN1) is positioned on one side, and output connectors (CN2, CN3) and function connectors (CN11, CN95, CN12) are on other sides.
