Preparation:
- Remove any insulating compound or underbody protection from the vehicle's mounting surfaces.
Parking Aid System Compatibility:
- Vehicles with parking assist may experience sensor interference if the tow bar components (ball bar, coupling ball) are within the sensor's detection range. Adjust the range or disable the system as needed.
- Removable or pivoting ball bars generally do not cause parking aid issues when in the stowed position.
Installation Procedure
Step 1: Access Rear Vehicle Area
Prepare the rear of the Ford C-Max for tow bar installation.
Step 2: Mount Chassis Brackets
Attach the main chassis mounting brackets (labeled 'a') to the vehicle frame using the specified hardware. Torque: 20 ± 2 Nm.
Step 3: Attach Tow Bar Frame
Secure the main tow bar frame to the chassis brackets using M10x45 bolts. Fasten the frame further with M10x40 bolts.
Step 4: Install Side Supports
Mount the side support brackets to the vehicle frame using M10x45 bolts. Torque: 64 Nm.
Step 5: Final Frame Fastening
Complete the frame assembly by attaching remaining components with M10x40 bolts. Torque: 64 Nm.
Step 6: Install Tow Ball Assembly
Attach the tow ball and coupling mechanism (part 2) to the tow bar frame using M12x75 bolts. Torque: 95 Nm.
Step 7: Initial Checks
Perform checks at 0 km and 1000 km after installation.
Technical Specifications and Clearance Requirements
ECE-R 55 Clearance Requirements
Ensure the following clearances according to ECE-R 55 (Appendix 7, Figures 25a & 25b):
- Minimum vertical clearance above coupling ball: 55 mm
- Minimum vertical clearance below coupling ball: 140 mm
- Minimum horizontal clearance on each side of coupling ball: 32 mm
- Maximum horizontal angle of ball bar: 45°
- Maximum vertical angle of ball bar: 65°
- Maximum extension of coupling ball from vehicle rear: 100 mm
- Maximum overall length of tow bar assembly from vehicle rear: 250 mm
Towing Capacity Definitions:
- D-Value: Towing force rating (10 kN for this model).
- S-Value (Max. Vertical Load): Maximum weight allowed on the coupling ball (90 kg for this model).
- Towing Mass: Maximum weight of the trailer, as specified by the vehicle manufacturer and in the vehicle's registration documents.

The installer confirms that the tow bar was fitted correctly according to manufacturer specifications and attachment points, and that the user was informed about the device's use and maintenance.
