Zebra Android 14 Release Notes

Highlights

This Android 14 AOSP release 14-28-03.00-UN-U106-STD-ATH-04 is the official release on Android 14, supporting TC53, TC73, TC22, HC20, HC50, TC27, ET60, TC58 devices. Please see device compatibility under Addendum Section for more details.

This release requires a mandatory step OS Update method to upgrade to A14 BSP software from A11. Please refer for more details under "OS Update Installation Requirements and Instructions" section.

For devices TC22, TC27, HC20, HC50, HC25, HC55, EM45 and EM45 RFID when upgrading from Android 13 to Android 14 OS:

• It is mandatory to first install March 2025 Android 13 LifeGuard release (13-39-18) or higher, before proceeding with any updates to the Android 14 OS.
• To ensure a smooth and stable experience, The Android 14 OS Update (U42 & U60) will abort automatically and will not proceed until Android 13 LifeGuard release (13-39-18) or higher is installed.

This LG patch is applicable for 14-28-03.00-UG-U60-STD-ATH-04 version.

• SPR-56534: Resolved an issue wherein users could not switch between Earpiece and Speakerphone during Outbound calls from the 8x8 voice client.
• SPR-57104: Resolved an issue wherein the device screen would rotate unexpectedly when docked in a workstation cradle without an external display connected.
• SPR-56111: Resolved an issue wherein the display area turned black and the touch panel became unresponsive during idle periods.
• SPR-56925: Resolved an issue wherein there was no option to configure devices to use LTE/3G only, excluding GSM.
• SPR-55988: Resolved an issue wherein NFC would frequently disable itself on HC50 devices, preventing users from logging in.
• SPR-56196: Resolved an issue wherein the main display remained blank or backlit after successive restarts when connected via USB-C power.
• SPR-56631: Resolved an issue wherein the device returned an incorrect DPI value, leading to inaccurate size measurements.
• SPR-54787: Resolved an issue wherein audio was lost or delayed when the microphone was obstructed.
• SPR-55000: Resolved an issue wherein total audio loss occurred due to abnormal modifications of shared audio resources.
• SPR-56231: Resolved an issue wherein system files were consuming all available memory, causing devices to run out of storage.
• SPR-55031: Resolved an issue wherein the phone dialer did not appear on the lock screen during incoming calls when using the SOTI launcher.

LifeGuard Update 14-28-03.00-UG-U60

Adds Security updates to be compliant with Android Security Bulletin of June 01, 2025.

New Features

• Workstation Connect is now supported on this release, for details on compatibility please check workstation-connect
• Updated firmware PAAFNS00-002-R03 for SE55 Scan Engine with enhancements which will improve system performance and address minor occurrences of memory corruption.

LifeGuard Update 14-28-03.00-UG-U42

Adds Security updates to be compliant with Android Security Bulletin of May 01, 2025.

For devices TC22, TC27, HC20, HC50, HC25 and HC55, it is mandatory to first install March 2025 Android 13 LifeGuard release (13-39-18) before proceeding with any updates to the Android 14 OS.

MX 14.2:

• Wireless Manager adds the ability to select "pass-through antenna" settings on the device when used with external antenna(s).

Resolved Issues

• SPR-56634 - Notification Pulldown is not longer Allowed in PowerKeyMenu when MX feature is disabled.
• SPR-56181 / SPR-56534- Add custom CSP feature to enable Telephony Manager on WLAN devices. Note: TelephonyManager_CustomFeatureCSP is not enable on WIFI models and can be enabled with a method available on request
• SPR-55368 - Resolved issue where DPR setting from StageNow did not match value in Settings UI.
• SPR-55240 - Resolved an issue wherein the RFD90 RFID reader sometimes does not connect with the host device with USB-CIO connection via the e-Connex interface.

• SPR-55240 -Kernel changes in spoc_detection and MSM USB HS PHY driver to handle USB device enumeration failure when attached in suspend mode. Changes include increasing the debounce delay and handling the suspend case in USB PHY driver for handling the USB device enumeration along with the SPR-55240 use case of USB-CIO connection issue with RFD90 via eConnex interface.

Usage Notes

• Due to new mandatory privacy requirements from Google, the Setup Wizard Bypass feature has been discontinued on devices running Android 13 and later. Consequently, it is now restricted to skip the Setup Wizard screen, and the StageNow barcode will not function during the Setup Wizard, displaying a toast message stating "Not supported."
• If the Setup Wizard has already been completed and its data was configured to persist on the device in the past, there is no need to repeat this process following an Enterprise Reset.

• To identify the new camera type user can check 'ro.boot.device.cam_vcm' using getprop from the adb. Only new camera devices will have the below property: ro.boot.device.cam_vcm=86021

New Features

• Added a new feature to read EMMC flash data via EMMC app and adb shell.
• Wireless Analyzer(WA_A_3_2.1.0.006_U): A full-functional real-time WiFi Analysis and troubleshooting tool to help analyze and resolve WiFi issues from a mobile device standpoint.

Resolved Issues

• SPR-53899: Resolved an issue where all application permissions were accessible to the user in System restricted with Reduced Accessibility.
• SPR 53388: Firmware Update for SE55 (PAAFNS00-001-R09) Scan Engine with Critical bug fixes, and performance enhancements. This update is highly recommended.

New Features

• The Hotseat home screen "Phone" icon has been replaced by the "Files" icon (For Wi-Fi-only devices).
• Added support for Camera Stats 1.0.3.
• Added support for Zebra Camera App Admin control.
• Added support for DHCP Option 119. (DHCP option 119 would work only on managed devices over WLAN only and WLAN profile should be created by device owner)
• MXMF:
  • DevAdmin adds the ability to control Android Lock Screen visibility on the remote console if the Lock Screen appears on a device while being remotely controlled.
  • Display Manager adds the ability to select screen resolution on the secondary display when a device is connected to an external monitor through a Zebra Workstation Cradle.
  • UI Manager adds the ability to control whether to display the remote-control icon in the Status Bar when the device is being remotely controlled or viewed.
• DataWedge:
  • Support has been added to enable and disable decoders, such as US4State and other Postal decoders, in the Free-Form Image Capture Workflow and other workflows where applicable.
  • New Point & Shoot feature: Allows the simultaneous capture of both barcodes and OCR (defined as a single alphanumeric word or element) by simply pointing at the target with the crosshair in the viewfinder. This feature supports both Camera and Integrated Scan Engines and eliminates the need to end the current session or switch between barcode and OCR functionalities.
• Scanning:
  • Added support for improved Camera scanning.
  • Updated SE55 firmware with R07 version.
• Enhancements on Picklist + OCR allow capture of barcode or OCR by centering the desired target with the aiming crosshair/dot (Supports Camera and Integrated Scan Engines).
• Enhancements on OCR also includes:
  • Text Structure: ability to capture a Single Line of text and the initial release of a single word.
  • Report Barcode Data Rules: ability to set rules for which barcodes to capture and report.
  • Picklist Mode: ability to allow for Barcode or OCR, or limit to OCR only, or Barcode Only.
  • Decoders: ability to capture any of Zebra supported decoders, previously only the default barcodes were supported.
• Added support for postal codes (via camera or imager) in
  • Free-Form Image Capture (workflow Input) – Barcode Highlighting/Reporting
  • Barcode highlighting (Barcode Input).
  • Postal Codes: US PostNet, US Planet, UK Postal, Japanese Postal, Australia Post, US4state FICS, US4state, Mailmark, Canadian postal, Dutch Postal, Finish Postal 4S.
  • Updated version of Decoder library IMGKIT_9.02T01.27_03 is added.
  • New Configurable Focus Parameters offered for devices with SE55 Scan Engine.

Device Support

This release supports TC53/TC22/TC27/TC73/TC58/HC20/HC50/HC25/HC55 and ET60 only. Please refer to the addendum for more details on the part numbers supported in this release.

OS Update Installation Requirements and Instructions

For devices TC53, TC73 to update from A11 to this A14 release, user must follow below steps:

• Step-1: Device MUST have A11 May 2023 LG BSP Image 11-21-27.00-RG-U00-STD version or a greater A11 BSP version installed which is available on zebra.com portal.
• Step-2: Upgrade to this release A14 BSP version 14-28-03.00-UN-U00-STD-ATH-04. For more detailed instructions refer A14 6490 OS update instructions

For devices TC53, TC73 and ET60 to update from A13 to this A14 release, user must follow below steps:

• Step-1: Device must have Android 13 September LifeGuard release (13-33-18) or higher version installed which is available on zebra.com portal.
• Step-2: Upgrade to this release A14 BSP version 14-28-03.00-UN-U00-STD-ATH-04. For more detailed instructions refer A14 6490 OS update instructions.

For devices TC22, TC27, HC20, HC50, HC25 and HC55 to update from A13 to this A14 release, user must follow below steps:

• Step-1: It is mandatory to first install March 2025 Android 13 LifeGuard release (13-39-18) or newer before proceeding with any updates to the Android 14 OS, which is available on zebra.com portal.
• Step-2: Upgrade to this release A14 BSP version 14-28-03.00-UN-U00-STD-ATH-04. For more detailed instructions refer A14 6490 OS update instructions.

Known Constraint

• Limitation of Battery Stats in COPE mode.
• System settings access (Access Manager) - Reduced settings with Accessibility allow users to access application permissions, using Privacy Indicators.
• On devices running Android 14:
  • If an on-docking app behaviors are configured with five or more apps and the device is continuously docked and undocked, a fully black or half-black screen might be displayed on the primary device.
    • REMEDY: Fully black screen: Reboot the device
    • Half-black screen: Clear apps from the recent apps list on the primary device or reboot
