CFD-S70 Operating Instructions
Important Safety Information
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture. Do not cover ventilation openings. Do not expose to naked flame sources. Do not place liquid-filled objects on the apparatus. Ensure the AC power cord is easily accessible for disconnection.
CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. DO NOT OPEN.
Excessive sound pressure from headphones can cause hearing loss. Do not expose batteries to excessive heat.
Power Sources
The unit can be powered by an AC power cord (supplied) or six R14 (size C) batteries (not supplied). Insert batteries with the correct orientation. The unit will display "LO-BATT" when batteries are low.
Power Management (European models only): The unit has an automatic standby function that activates after 15 minutes of inactivity or no audio output. This can be turned on or off by pressing VOLUME + while holding PLAY MODE.
Disposal of Waste Batteries and Electrical/Electronic Equipment: This symbol indicates that the product and batteries should not be treated as household waste. Recycle them correctly to prevent negative environmental and health consequences.
Basic Operations
- Power On/Off: Press the power button (1).
- Volume Adjustment: Press VOLUME + or 6.
- Headphone Use: Connect headphones to the headphone jack (14). Avoid listening at excessive volumes.
- MEGA BASS: Press MEGA BASS 7 to turn the bass enhancement function on or off.
Playing a Music Disc
- Turn on the unit.
- Open the CD compartment cover.
- Place a disc (label side up) in the compartment and close the cover.
- Press CD PLAY/PAUSE (II) 9 to start playback.
Playback Controls:
- Pause: Press CD PLAY/PAUSE (II) 9.
- Stop: Press STOP (■) 9. Resume Play starts from the last played track if playback is stopped and then restarted.
- Select Track/File: Press TUNE/+ or - 3.
- Fast Forward/Rewind: Hold down or 5.
- Display Information: Press DISPLAY/ENTER 11 to cycle through playing time, track number, or MP3 folder/file numbers.
Notes on MP3 Discs:
- The unit supports MP3 files with a ".mp3" extension.
- Playback may take longer if the disc contains many folders or non-MP3 files.
- The unit skips audio files other than MP3 files.
- MP3 PRO format is not supported.
- Limitations apply to the total number of audio files (413), folders (99), and directory levels (9).
Listening to the Radio
- Turn on the unit.
- Adjust the FM antenna (17) or reorient the unit for AM reception.
- Press FM/AM 2 to select FM or AM band.
- Automatic Tuning: Hold down TUNE/+ or - 3 until frequencies change. The unit stops at a clear station.
- Manual Tuning: Press TUNE/+ or - 3 step by step.
- Stereo Reception: "ST" lights up for stereo FM. If reception is noisy, press PLAY MODE 10 until "Mono" appears.
Tips for Radio Reception:
- Use the unit near a window.
- Avoid areas with poor reception, such as between buildings or near electrical appliances.
Presetting Radio Stations
You can preset up to 30 stations (20 FM, 10 AM).
Automatic Presetting: Select band, hold FM/AM 2 until "AUTO" flashes, then press DISPLAY/ENTER 11.
Manual Presetting: Tune to a station, hold DISPLAY/ENTER 11 until "FM-xx" or "AM-xx" flashes, press PRESET +/- 5 to select a preset number, then press DISPLAY/ENTER 11.
Listening to Preset Stations: Select band, press PRESET +/- 5 to choose a preset number.
FAVORITE RADIO STATIONS Buttons: You can preset up to three favorite stations to the FAVORITE RADIO STATIONS (-SET) 12 buttons. Tune to a station and press and hold the desired button until a beep is heard.
Playing a Tape
- Ensure you are using Type I (normal) tapes.
- Insert a cassette tape into the compartment (2) with the playing side facing forward.
- Press 4 to start playback.
Tape Controls:
- Stop: Press 4.
- Pause: Press 4. Press again to resume.
- Fast Forward/Rewind: Press or 4.
- Eject: Press 4.
Notes: Do not turn off the power during playback. "STOP TAPE" flashes if the tape reaches the end during fast forward/rewind. The unit turns off automatically after about 10 minutes if "STOP TAPE" flashes.
Recording on a Tape
- Ensure you are using Type I (normal) tapes and that the overwrite protection tab is intact or covered. Connect the AC power cord.
- Prepare the source:
- CD: Place a disc in the compartment.
- Radio: Tune to the desired station.
- Audio Input: Connect an external component to the AUDIO IN jack (15) and start playback on the component. Press AUDIO IN 8.
- Insert a cassette tape into the compartment (2) with the recording side facing forward.
- Press 4 (1) to start recording.
Recording Controls:
- Stop Recording: Press 4.
- Pause Recording: Press 4. Press again to resume.
- Fast Forward/Rewind: Press or 4.
- Eject Tape: Press 4.
