1. Door Preparation
Refer to the template for detailed door preparation specifications.
This diagram illustrates the preparation required for the door. It shows a cross-section of a door edge and face. Key measurements are indicated: A 1/8-inch deep recess for the edge bore. A 1-inch diameter edge bore. For the latch mechanism: a 1 3/4-inch diameter bore on the door face. For the spindle passing through the latch: two 3/8-inch diameter holes, drilled 2 1/4 inches from the door edge. The distance between the centers of these two holes is 3 1/2 inches. For the main spindle or cylinder: a 1 1/4-inch diameter bore, located 4 5/8 inches from the door edge. The diagram also shows the latch mechanism itself in position.
Important: The 3/8" diameter holes for the latch mechanism must be drilled first.
2. Door Jamb Preparation
This diagram shows the preparation for the door jamb. It depicts the jamb face with markings for the strike plate. Dimensions labeled A, B, and C are shown relative to the jamb and strike plate. A text box provides guidance: "Dimensions B and C are for reference only. Actual door jamb preparation dimensions may vary due to tolerances. Use the strike plate outline to mark edges and locate screw holes on the jamb, aligning with the center line."
A | B | C |
---|---|---|
1-3/8" | 1-1/4" | 2-1/4" |
1-1/2" | 1-5/16" | 2-1/4" |
1-3/4" | 1-7/16" | 2-1/4" |
Door Stop: [indicated on diagram]
3. Install Latch
This illustration shows the installation of the latch mechanism into the prepared door. It displays the latch bolt assembly, the faceplate, and screws. The latch is shown being inserted into the large bore hole on the door's edge, with the faceplate aligning with the mortise on the door's face.
4. Install Strike Plate
This diagram illustrates the installation of the strike plate onto the door jamb. It shows the strike plate, which has screw holes, being positioned in the jamb. Screws are depicted for securing the strike plate. Refer to Step 2 for detailed door jamb preparation instructions. Measurements of 1 inch and 1/16 inch deep are indicated, likely referring to the recess for the strike plate.
5. Install Outside and Inside Trims
This illustration shows the installation of the exterior and interior trim components of the lockset. The exterior trim piece, including the handle mechanism, is shown being attached to the outside of the door. The interior trim piece, with mounting screws, is shown being attached to the inside of the door. Labels clearly distinguish "Outside" and "Inside" components.
Note: Handles may vary depending on the specific style of the lockset.
