Extremely Important: Read these safety instructions carefully in addition to use, operation, and maintenance instructions. Keep this sheet in an easy-to-find place.
This jack is designed for elevating vehicles. Any other application is considered inappropriate.
Handle the jack correctly and ensure all parts are in good condition before use. Only authorized persons who have read and understood this manual should operate the jack. Do not modify the jack. Non-compliance may result in injury or damage.
Handling and Storage
Handle with care. Dropping the jack can cause damage and personal injury. This jack is not a toy. Avoid damp environments which can cause rust, and protect from dust and debris to prevent clogging. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for optimal performance.
Health & Safety Information
Before Positioning the Jack
- Ensure the vehicle is clear of all passengers.
- Transmission should be in gear (or 'Park' for automatic transmissions) and the handbrake applied.
- To prevent vehicle movement, wheels should be securely blocked with wheel chocks. [Wheel Chocks: Draper Stock No.54500]
Correct Positioning
Position the jack under the approved lifting points for the vehicle. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer's or Haynes workshop manuals for specific points.
Terrain
Operate the jack on a hard and level surface; concrete is preferred.
Rated Capacity
Never exceed the jack's rated capacity. Never work under a vehicle without axle stands correctly supporting the vehicle weight.
Working Under the Vehicle
It is extremely important to ensure axle stands are always used when working under the vehicle.
Safety Precautions
- Never exceed the vehicle's rated capacity or the jack's maximum stroke.
- Support the jack on a solid, level, horizontal, well-illuminated surface free of obstructions. Do not use on surfaces that may sink.
- Ensure no persons are inside the vehicle. Switch off the engine and apply the brake. Use chocks if appropriate. Do not enter the vehicle or start the engine while it is supported by the jack or stands. The jack is a lifting device only and should not be used to move the vehicle.
- Position the jack under the manufacturer's recommended lifting point, ensuring it is not corroded, dirty, or greasy. The lifting point should be centered over the jack saddle. Off-centred loads can slip.
- Take precautions to avoid vehicle movement during raising and lowering.
- Position the jack to avoid the need to place any part of your body underneath the vehicle. Never work under a raised vehicle without supporting it with axle stands or other appropriate methods. Keep body parts away from movable jack elements.
- Observe the lifting device and load during all movements. Interrupt lifting if dangerous conditions arise.
- Ensure no persons or obstructions are underneath the vehicle before lowering.
- An overload valve is fitted as a safety measure; do not adjust it. It will stop lifting if the capacity is exceeded.
Caution:
- Use only on a firm, level surface (concrete preferred).
- Do not exceed the rated capacity.
- This is a lifting device only; use axle stands when working under the vehicle.
- Ensure the lifting point is stable and correctly centered on the jack saddle.
- Familiarize yourself thoroughly with this manual before operating to prevent damage or injury.
Operating Instructions
Handle Assembly
- Join the two halves of the handle shaft, push and twist until the sprung-loaded pin locates.
- Insert the handle shaft into the base socket and secure with the bolt.
Preparing the Jack
- Prior to operating, remove accumulated air from the system: Rotate the pump handle anti-clockwise, then pump several times with a full stroke for internal lubrication and to bleed air.
- Rotate the handle clockwise and release to close the valve completely. The jack is now ready for use.
Lifting Procedure
- IMPORTANT: Ensure all safety instructions are followed before lifting.
- The jack wheels should always rotate freely.
- To lift, use the pump handle to position the jack saddle pad under the approved vehicle lifting point (check correct position with vehicle manufacturer before lifting). Once contact is made, move the handle up and down using the full stroke range of the piston for speed.
- Secure the lifted load with an appropriate axle stand as an essential safety measure.
Lowering Procedure
- Before lowering, lift the vehicle slightly to remove the axle stands. Ensure no persons or obstacles are under the vehicle.
- Carefully rotate the handle anti-clockwise to gently lower the load.
Maintenance
Maintenance and repair should only be performed by qualified persons with sufficient knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Keep the jack clean and lubricate all moving parts regularly. Protect from aggressive conditions.
- Use only original spare parts.
- Before each use, check for bent, broken, cracked, or loose parts. Do not use if defects are present. If the jack has been subjected to abnormal loads or knocks, withdraw it from service until rectified.
- If the oil level needs checking or refilling: retract the piston fully, remove the filler plug, drain contents into a container. With the jack horizontal, add the required volume of oil. Ensure no dirt enters with the new oil.
- Change the oil after prolonged intensive use to extend the jack's useful life.
- An excess of oil can render the jack inoperative.
- Use only suitable hydraulic oil; never use brake fluid.
- When not in use, retract the lifting arm to avoid corrosion. Apply anti-corrosion product to pistons if appropriate.
- Store the jack in a clean, dry place, out of children's reach. Remove the operating handle.
- At the end of its useful life, drain the oil and hand it over to an authorized agent for disposal according to local regulations.
Disposal
At the end of the machine's working life, or when it can no longer be repaired, ensure it is disposed of according to national regulations. Contact your local authority for details of collection schemes.
In all circumstances:
- Do not dispose of tools with domestic waste.
- Do not incinerate.
- Do not abandon in the environment.
- Remove oil from the jack so it can be recycled.
