Measuring Principle

This scale uses the B.I.A. (bioelectric impedance analysis) principle, which measures physical relationships within seconds via an unnoticeable and harmless signal from the conductors in the scale. The scale determines body fat percentage and other bodily aspects by measuring electrical resistance (impedance) and adjusting the results based on age, height, gender, weight and degree of physical activity. Muscle tissue and water have good electrical conductivity, and therefore lower resistance. Fatty tissue, on the other hand, has low conductivity since fat cells have a lower water content.

Package Contents

  • 4 x 1.5 V AAA-size batteries
  • 1 x Instruction manual
  • 1 x Quick start guide

Getting Started

Battery Installation/Replacement

  • Use only the size and type of batteries specified.
  • Ensure correct polarity when installing batteries. Reversed batteries may cause damage.
  • Do not mix battery types or old with new batteries. Replace all batteries simultaneously.
  • If batteries are depleted or for long periods of non-use, remove batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
  • Clean battery contacts and device contacts before installation.
  • Dispose of discharged batteries according to applicable laws.
  • Keep batteries away from children and pets.

To Use the Scale

Measuring Weight Only

Stand on the scale with weight distributed equally on both feet. The scale will start measurements immediately. The LCD Display will flash and then display results. The scale switches off after a few seconds when you step off.

Measuring Body Fat, Body Water, Muscle Percentage, etc.

Switching the Unit

The scale defaults to lb and inches. To switch to lb:st (and inches) or kg (and cm), tap the scale. Wait until "0.0" is displayed, then press the unit selection button.

Setting User Data

To measure body fat percentage and other physical data, you must enter personal user parameters. The scale has over 10 memory spaces for personal settings.

To turn on the scale, tap the weighing area with your foot. Wait for "0.0" and press "SET". The memory position will flash. Confirm the memory position within 3 seconds by pressing "SET". Enter the following settings:

  • Body size: 2 ft 8 in - 7 ft 2 in (80 to 220 cm)
  • Age: 10 to 100 years
  • Sex/Activity mode: male / female / sporty

Use the "" or "" buttons to enter settings and "SET" to confirm. The scale is then ready for measurement. It will auto-off after several seconds if no measurement is taken.

Taking Measurements

After entering parameters, you can measure your weight, body fat, and other data:

  • Step onto the scale.
  • Press "SET".
  • Select memory space by pressing "" or "" (within 3 seconds). "0.0" appears.
  • Step onto the scale barefoot and stand still on the electrodes.
  • All determined values will appear after weighing.

The scale switches off automatically after approximately 15 seconds.

Important: Make sure your feet, legs, calves, and thighs do not touch each other, otherwise the measurement will not be performed correctly.

Understanding Your Results

Results Displayed

The following results display consecutively:

  • Body Fat % with interpretation
  • Muscle percentage
  • BMI
  • Weight
  • Body water percentage
  • Bone mass
  • Active metabolic rate (AMR)

Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Place scale on a hard, level floor (no carpet).
  • Weigh yourself at the same time of day, under comparable conditions (e.g., after using the toilet, on an empty stomach, unclothed).
  • Stand still and upright during measurement.
  • Wait a few hours after physical activity.
  • Wait about 15 minutes after waking for body water to distribute.
  • Remember that only long-term trends are important. Short-term changes are usually due to fluid loss.

Important Measurement Notes

  • Measure barefoot. Dry soles or callused skin can lead to unsatisfactory results due to insufficient conductivity.
  • Ensure feet, legs, calves, and thighs do not touch each other.

Limitations

Inaccurate or unexpected results may occur when measuring body fat and other values in:

  • Children under 10
  • Competitive athletes and bodybuilders
  • Post-menopausal women
  • People with fever, undergoing dialysis, or with edema or osteoporosis symptoms
  • People taking cardiovascular medication
  • People taking vascular dilating or constricting medication
  • People with significant anatomical deviations of the legs
  • People with prosthetics or one leg
  • People suffering from swelling
  • Elderly people
  • People who drink coffee or alcohol

Note: No results for water, muscle, bone, or kcal are provided for users under 18 years of age. Athlete mode is also not available for users under 18.

Evaluation of Results

Body Weight / Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is calculated as body weight divided by height squared (kg/m²). Refer to the tables for BMI ranges by age and gender.

Body Fat

Body fat percentages are guide values. Athletes often have lower values. Extremely low values may indicate a health risk. Refer to the tables for recommended body fat percentages by age and gender.

Body Water

Recommended body water percentages (WHO 2001): Women: 50-55%, Men: 60-65%, Children: 65-75%.

Interpretation of Results

Focus on long-term trends. Short-term weight changes are often due to fluid fluctuations. Interpret results based on changes in weight, body fat, water, and muscle percentages over time.

  • Weight loss with stable/increased body fat: Likely water loss.
  • Weight gain with decreased/stable body fat: Potential muscle gain.
  • Simultaneous weight and body fat loss: Effective diet, losing fat mass.
  • Support diet with physical activity for muscle gain.
  • Do not add body fat, water, or muscle percentages as they overlap.

Troubleshooting

Error Display Possible Causes Correction
"0-Ld" Maximum capacity exceeded. Weigh only the maximum permissible weight.
"Err" High electrical resistance (e.g., thick calluses, dry soles). Repeat measurement barefoot. Remove calluses if necessary.
Fat percentage out of range. Repeat measurement barefoot. Remove calluses if necessary.
Water percentage out of range. Repeat measurement barefoot. Remove calluses if necessary.
Muscle percentage out of range. Repeat measurement barefoot. Remove calluses if necessary.
"Lo" Low power. Change the battery.
No display Battery empty, inserted incorrectly, or scale broken. Replace the battery.
Unrealistic results Scale switches off automatically. Repeat measurement. Place on level floor (no carpet). Do not move during weighing.

Cleaning, Maintenance, and Disposal
