The Legend of the Picori
Long ago, evil spirits threatened Hyrule. The tiny Picori appeared, bestowing a golden light and a sword upon a brave human. This hero used wisdom, courage, and these gifts to defeat the demons and restore peace. In gratitude, the people established the annual Picori Festival.
The Picori can cross into Hyrule through a mystic doorway that opens once every hundred years. This year is one such year, and Hyrule Castle hosts a grand sword-fighting tournament. The champion is Vaati, a mysterious figure whose origins are unknown.

Princess Zelda
The princess of Hyrule and Link's friend. She visits Link's house to invite him to the annual Picori Festival.
