- Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
- Do not use with a damaged cord or plug. If the appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, contact Alton for assistance.
- Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
- Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.
- Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any openings blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.
- Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.
- Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
- Do not use without dust bag and/or filters in place.
- Turn off all controls before unplugging.
- Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
- Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where they may be present.

- Do not vacuum toxic, carcinogenic, combustible, or other hazardous materials such as asbestos, arsenic, barium, beryllium, lead, pesticides, or other health-endangering materials.
- Do not pick up soot, cement, plaster, or drywall dust without filter and dust bag in place. These are very fine particles that may affect the performance of the motor or be exhausted back into the air. Additional dust bags are available.
- Do not leave the cord lying on the floor once you have finished the cleaning job; it can become a tripping hazard.
- Use special care when emptying heavily loaded tanks.
- To avoid spontaneous combustion, empty tank after each use.
- The operation of a utility vac can result in foreign objects being blown into eyes, which can result in eye damage. Always wear safety goggles when operating vacuum.
- STAY ALERT. Watch what you are doing and use common sense. Do not use vacuum cleaner when you are tired, distracted, or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication causing diminished control.
NOTE: Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer's recommended attachments.
Grounding Instructions
This appliance must be grounded. If it should malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be inserted into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
WARNING! IMPROPER CONNECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTOR CAN RESULT IN A RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. CHECK WITH A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN OR SERVICE PERSON IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT AS TO WHETHER THE OUTLET IS PROPERLY GROUNDED. DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG PROVIDED WITH THE APPLIANCE. IF IT WILL NOT FIT THE OUTLET, HAVE A PROPER OUTLET INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
This appliance is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit. The grounded plug looks like picture (a). The grounded outlet looks like picture (b). The customer needs to plug the grounded plug into the grounded outlet to accomplish grounding.
NOTE: No adapter should be used with this appliance.

Dry Pick-Up Operation
Installing Foam Filter & Reusable Cloth Dry Filter
WARNING! ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE PLUG FROM THE WALL OUTLET BEFORE REMOVING THE TANK COVER.
- Install foam filter and reusable cloth dry filter to pick up dust and dry material only. If the foam filter has been used to pick up liquids, it must be cleaned and dried before installing for dry pick-up.
- With the power head upside down, slide the foam filter over the lid cage, pulling until it completely covers the lid cage.
- Slide the cloth filter down completely over the foam filter.
- Slide the mounting ring down over the reusable cloth filter until the ring is positioned against the ribs of the lid cage. The reusable cloth dry filter should be in position over the foam filter for dry pick-up.
- To remove the filter for cleaning, remove the mounting ring and filter from the lid cage.
- To clean the reusable cloth dry filter, shake off excess dirt and dust or rinse with water (depending on filter condition). Allow the filter to dry completely and reinstall. DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR DRY.
NOTE: Ensure the mounting ring is completely secure and in position by pushing down firmly around the ring. Be sure the reusable cloth dry filter completely covers the foam filter and its edges are secure under the mounting ring.
WARNING! KEEP FILTER CLEAN: The efficiency of the vacuum is largely dependent on the filter. A clogged filter can cause overheating and possibly damage the cleaner. Check the filter periodically and replace as required.
Wet Pick-Up Operation
This cleaner requires minimal conversion for wet pick-up. Remove all dry pick-up filters. The foam filter must be used for wet pick-up.
When picking up several tanks full of liquid, the foam filter may become saturated, causing misting in the exhaust air. Dry or change the foam filter to eliminate misting and dripping.
After completing wet pick-up, raise the hose to drain excess liquid into the tank before shutting off. The tank interior should be cleaned periodically.
Foam Filter Cleaning for Wet Pick-Up:
- Always disconnect the plug from the wall receptacle before removing the power head. Place power head upside down. Remove foam filter by taking off the mounting ring and sliding it off the lid cage.
- Shake excess dust off the foam filter with a rapid up-and-down movement.
- Hold foam under running water for a minute or two, rinsing from the inside. A water wash is not always required, depending on the foam filter's condition.
- Gently wring out excess water, blot foam with a clean towel, and allow to dry. The foam filter is now ready to install.
NOTE: Wet pick-up accessories should be washed periodically, especially after picking up wet, sticky kitchen accidents, using a warm solution of soap and water.
Emptying Liquid Waters from the Tank
To empty liquid waste, stop the motor and unplug the vacuum. Remove the power head and deposit the liquid waste into a suitable drain. After the tank is empty, return the cover to its original position. Plug in the cord and start the motor to continue use.
Automatic Shut-Off
The cleaner is equipped with an automatic shut-off that operates when picking up liquids. As the liquid level rises, an internal float rises to a seal at the motor intake, shutting off suction. This may cause a higher-than-normal motor noise. To continue use, empty the liquid from the tank.
NOTE: If the vacuum is accidentally tipped over, it could lose suction. If this occurs, place the vacuum in an upright position and turn the switch OFF. This allows the float to return to its normal position, enabling continued operation.
Storage
Before storing, empty and clean the tank. The power cord can be wound around the unit housing for convenience. Accessories can be stored on the optional wall mount bracket. The cleaner should be stored indoors.
Troubleshooting
Trouble | Possible Cause | Remedy |
