Operation

Dry Pick-up Operation - 1: Installing Foam Filter & Reusable Cloth Dry Filter

⚠️ WARNING!

ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE PLUG FROM THE WALL OUTLET BEFORE REMOVING THE TANK COVER.

  1. Install foam filter and reusable cloth dry filter to pick up dust and dry material only. If the foam filter has been used to pick up liquids, the foam filter must be cleaned and dried before installing for dry pick-up.
  2. With the power head in an upside down position, slide foam filter down over lid cage pulling until foam filter completely covers lid cage.
  3. Slide cloth filter down over the foam filter pulling until the cloth filter completely covers the lid cage.
  4. Slide mounting ring down over filter until ring is positioned against the ribs of the lid cage.
  5. The reusable cloth dry filter should be in position over the foam filter for dry pick-up unless using a disposable filter bag.
  6. To remove the filter for cleaning, remove mounting ring and filter from the lid cage.
  7. To clean reusable cloth dry filter, shake off excess dirt and dust or (depending on the condition of filter) rinse with water. Allow the filter to dry completely and re-install. DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR DRY.

NOTE: Ensure that the elastic ring is completely secure and in position by pushing down firmly around the ring in several places.

⚠️ WARNING!

KEEP FILTER CLEAN. EFFICIENCY OF THE VACUUM IS LARGELY DEPENDENT ON THE FILTER. A CLOGGED FILTER CAN CAUSE OVERHEATING AND POSSIBLY DAMAGE THE CLEANER. CHECK THE FILTER PERIODICALLY AND REPLACE AS REQUIRED.

Dry Pick-up Operation - 2: Installing Foam Filter & Fabric Dust Bag

  1. Install foam filter and disposable filter bag to pick up dust and dry material only. If the foam filter has been used to pick up liquids, the foam filter must be cleaned and dried before installing for dry pick-up.
  2. With the power head in an upside down position, slide foam filter down over lid cage pulling until foam filter completely covers lid cage.
  3. Slide mounting ring down over foam filter until ring is positioned against the ribs of the lid cage.
  4. To install disposable filter bag, unscrew locking-ring and remove hose.
  5. Slide collar of filter bag into retainer guides.
  6. Reinsert hose and tighten locking-ring. Do not over tighten.
  7. When secured in place, expand bag and position around the inside of the tank. The disposable filter bag should always be in position when using the foam filter for dry pick-up unless using the reusable dry filter.

Dry Pick-up Operation - 3: Installing Fabric Dust Bag

  1. Using for dry pick-up only.
  2. Unscrew locking-ring and remove hose.
  3. Slide collar of filter bag into retainer guides.
  4. Reinsert hose and tighten locking-ring.
  5. When secured in place, expand bag and position around the inside of the tank.

Wet Pick-up Operation

This cleaner requires only a minimum of conversion when going from dry to wet pick-up. Remove ALL dry pick-up filters. The foam filter must be positioned over the lid cage with the mounting ring while vacuuming liquids. When picking up several tanks full of liquid, the foam filter will become saturated and misting may appear in the exhaust air. At this time, you should dry the foam filter or change to a dry foam filter to eliminate the misting and possible dripping of liquid around the lid. After completing a wet pick-up job, raise the hose to drain any excess liquid into the tank before shutting off. The interior of the tank should be periodically cleaned.

Emptying Liquid Waters from the Tank

Your Stanley Wet/Dry may be emptied of liquid waste by removing the power head. To empty, stop the motor and remove the plug from the wall receptacle. Remove the power head and deposit the liquid waste contents in a suitable drain. After the tank is empty, return the cover to its original position. To continue use, plug the cord into the wall receptacle and start the motor.

Automatic Shut-off

The cleaner is equipped with an automatic shut-off that operates when picking up liquids. As the level of the liquid rises, an internal float rises until it seats itself against a seal at the intake of the motor, shutting off suction. When this happens, the motor will develop a higher than normal pitch noise. To continue use, empty the liquid waster from the tank as outlined in the previous paragraph.

NOTE: IF ACCIDENTALLY TIPPED OVER, THE VACUUM COULD CLOSE SUCTION. IF THIS OCCURS, PLACE VAC IN UPRIGHT POSITION AND TURN SWITCH OFF. THIS WILL ALLOW THE FLOAT TO RETURN TO ITS NORMAL POSITION, AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE OPERATION.

Troubleshooting

⚠️ WARNING!

REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY FROM MOVING PARTS AND/OR ELECTRICAL SHOCK, TURN POWER SWITCH OFF AND DISCONNECT GROUNDED PLUG FROM ELECTRICAL OUTLET BEFORE PERFORMING TROUBLESHOOTING CHECKS.

NOTE: No lubrication is necessary as the motor is equipped with lifetime lubricated bearing! For product service or any other service please contact Alton customer service or an authorized service representative. Minor problems often can be fixed without calling Alton Customer Service according to below chart.

⚠️ WARNING!

IF ANY OF THE MOTOR HOUSING PARTS SHOULD BECOME DETACHED OR BROKEN, EXPOSING THE MOTOR OR ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, OPERATION SHOULD BE DISCONTINUED IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY OR FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE VACUUM. REPAIRS SHOULD BE MADE BEFORE REUSING THE VACUUM.
