Epson ET-2850: Getting Started
This guide provides instructions for setting up your Epson ET-2850 printer. Please read these instructions and the safety information in the online User's Guide before use.
1 Unpack the Product
Remove all protective material from the product. Be careful not to touch the flat white cable or the ink tubes and their translucent cover.
Connect the power cord to the product and then to a power outlet.
Note: Do not connect the product to your computer yet.
2 Choose a Setup Method
The Epson Smart Panel app can help you set up your printer step-by-step using your smartphone or tablet. Download the app from your device's app store but do not launch it yet.
Press the power button to turn on the product.
Note: Do not connect the product to your computer yet.
Launch the app and follow the on-screen instructions to configure your product.
For information on connecting your product to a computer, using voice-activated printing, troubleshooting, or contacting Epson support, refer to the back of this poster.
3 Fill the Ink Tanks
Warning: Keep ink bottles out of reach of children and do not ingest ink. Handle ink with care. If you spill ink, wipe it up immediately with a damp cloth to avoid permanent stains. Ink splatters on clothing or other belongings may be impossible to remove.
Notes:
- Epson cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of third-party ink.
- Use the included ink bottles to set up the product. Some ink is used to charge the print head. These bottles may print fewer pages than replacement ink bottles.
- Epson strongly recommends using genuine ink for optimal print quality and performance.
1. Lift the scanner unit, open the ink tank cover, and then open the black (BK) ink tank cap.
2. Take the black (BK) ink bottle. Hold the bottle upright and slowly twist off the cap.
Caution: Do not shake or squeeze the ink bottle. Do not touch the top of the bottle after removing the cap.
3. Insert the bottle into the refill port. Do not use excessive force; it is designed to fit only the correct tank by color.
4. Wait until the ink fills the tank. Do not press the bottle or let it come into contact with any other surface. The ink flows into the tank and stops automatically when the tank is full. If ink does not flow, lift and reinsert the bottle.
5. Once the ink tank is full, remove the bottle and replace its cap securely. If there is ink left in the bottle, close it and store it for later use.
Note: Do not leave the ink bottle inserted; otherwise, the bottle may be damaged or ink may leak.
6. Securely close the black ink tank cap.
7. Repeat the previous steps for the other colors.
8. Close the ink tank cover, then close the scanner unit.
9. Lift the control panel, then press the power button to turn on the product. The power light will flash.
Note: If an error code is displayed, turn off the product and check that no protective material is inside.
10. Select your language.
Note: You can change this setting later using the product's control panel. For more information, see the online User's Guide.
11. When the Epson Smart Panel setup message appears on the LCD, select the option to continue setup.
12. When the message to refer to the Getting Started poster appears on the LCD, press and hold the Help button for 5 seconds.
13. Follow the on-screen instructions to start the ink charging process. Ink charging takes approximately 10 minutes.
Note: When the power light stops flashing, ink charging is complete. After the initial printer charging is finished, you can refill the tanks with any remaining ink. See the online User's Guide for instructions.
Caution: Do not unplug the product, turn it off, or lift the scanner unit during charging, as this will waste ink.
Note: Some ink is used for charging, and the remaining ink is available for printing.
14. Press the OK button to continue the initial setup.
15. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust your product's print quality.
Note: You must load paper before you can adjust print quality. See the "Load Paper" section below for details. Select "Adjust Later" if you want to adjust print quality later. For more information, see the online User's Guide.
Caution: After setup, periodically check the ink levels to ensure they are not below the bottom lines of the tanks. Continued use when ink is below the bottom line may damage the product. See the online User's Guide for refilling instructions.
4 Load Paper
Refer to the online User's Guide for information on loading capacity, paper types and sizes, and loading envelopes.
1. Ensure ink charging is not in progress. Open the front cover, then lift the paper support and tilt it back slightly.
2. Slide the paper guides out completely.
3. Load paper with the printable side or glossy side up, short edge first, into the center of the rear paper feed.
Note: Ensure the paper is placed under the marks inside the paper guides.
Slide the paper guides against the paper, but not too tightly. Then, tilt the front cover back.
5. Pull out the output tray.
6. Select the paper settings on the product's control panel.
