Selecting the Proper Cookware
Your induction cooktop requires compatible cookware to operate. The general rule is: if a magnet sticks to the cookware bottom, it will work.
The bottom surface of the cookware must:
- Be made of a ferrous magnetic material. Cookware with low ferrous magnetic content may trigger a "POT" error code.
- Have a flat bottom surface with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. The magnetic layer must be large enough to interact with the cooktop's magnetic field.
- Touch the cooktop surface or rise no more than 1 inch above it.
Suitable Cookware Materials:
- Cast iron
- Iron
- Magnetic steel
- Enameled iron
- Stainless steel manufactured with a magnetic bottom
DO NOT use cookware made out of:
- Glass
- Ceramic
- Copper
- Aluminum
- Non-magnetic stainless steel (18/10, 18/8) bottom
Operating Instructions
CAUTION: ALWAYS USE A DEDICATED OUTLET. This unit requires a 110/120V electrical outlet with a 15 amp capacity. Do not share an outlet or circuit with other appliances.
- Place the unit on a dry, stable, level, non-combustible, non-metallic surface.
- Allow at least 4 inches of space around the unit for proper ventilation.
- Plug the power cord into a 120V/15 amp electrical socket. The unit will beep, and the POWER INDICATOR light will illuminate red.
- Ensure compatible cookware is centered on the COOKWARE ALIGNMENT GUIDE before turning on.
- To start cooking: Press the "ON/OFF" button. The cooktop will turn on, the COOL AIR FAN will start, and the LCD display will show dashes. Press the "MENU" button to activate at the default power setting (5.0).
- After cooking, press "ON/OFF" to turn off. The LCD will turn off, but "HOT" will display, and the fan will continue to run until the unit cools.
- If the unit does not operate as intended, refer to the "TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE".
NOTE: To briefly preheat a pan, use a low heat setting while supervising. An empty pan can heat quickly.
Operation Modes
The unit offers Power Mode and Temperature Mode, along with an automatic 10-hour timer.
Power Mode Operation
Power level directly relates to wattage/BTU output. Higher levels increase cooking speed. Default is 5.0. Adjust with +/- buttons from 0.5 to 10.
If "E2" error code appears, the cookware bottom has exceeded 554°F.
Temperature Mode Operation
Use when a specific cooking temperature is required. The unit cycles to maintain the selected temperature. Default is 300°F. Adjust with +/- buttons. Settings range from 100°F - 460°F (37.8°C-238°C).
Limitation: The temperature sensor is under the glass top; the displayed temperature is an estimate and may differ from the actual pan temperature. Test to find optimal settings.
Additional Preset Function Buttons
- LOCK: Locks control panel buttons to prevent accidental changes. Does not lock ON/OFF.
- BOIL: Switches to Power Mode level 10 with a 10-minute timer. Unit beeps and turns off when timer expires. Restart if water hasn't fully boiled.
- KEEP WARM: Switches to Temperature Mode at 140°F with a 30-minute timer.
10-Hour Automatic Timer
Press the "TIMER" button to activate. The display shows 0:00. Use +/- buttons to set minutes, then hours. Timing starts after 5 seconds of inactivity. If no time is set within 10 seconds, the feature shuts off.
The timer can be reset by pressing "TIMER" again. The unit beeps and turns off when the timer expires.
For safety, the cooktop is programmed to turn off after two hours. To operate longer, set the timer.
NOTE: The cooktop unit will automatically shut off and beep after 1 minute if:
- Wrong type of cookware is used.
- No cookware is placed on the unit ("POT" will flash).
- Unit is turned on and the "MENU" button is not pressed.
Care and Maintenance
The cooktop is easy to maintain. Use a moist cloth with mild liquid detergent to wipe off grease and stains, then dry. Protect from dust by covering when not in use.
DO NOT:
- Clean the COOKTOP SURFACE with metal scouring pads, abrasives, or solvents.
- Immerse cord or cooktop unit in water or other liquids.
- Keep the unit plugged in while cleaning it.
- Keep the unit plugged in when not in use.
- Store or clean the unit while still hot.
- Place objects heavier than 65 pounds on the COOKTOP SURFACE.
- Use the unit if the COOKTOP SURFACE or power cord is damaged.
- Keep the cooktop unit on or near other heat sources.
Troubleshooting Guide & Customer Service
If a problem persists after reviewing this guide, contact CustomerCare@thesecura.com. Do not attempt self-repair.
Common Problems:
- POWER INDICATOR LIGHT does not illuminate red: Plug may be loose, or circuit breaker may be tripped.
- POWER INDICATOR LIGHT is lit, but fan is not running, nor is cookware heating: Press "MENU" button; check cookware type (must be magnetic); ensure pan is centered; check for cracked COOKTOP SURFACE.
- Cooktop suddenly stops heating and shuts down: May be due to overheating sensor (heating empty cookware, high power for too long), blocked air inlet/outlet, unit unplugged, or tripped fuse/circuit breaker.
- In Power Mode, heating stops when surface temperature is too high, then resumes: This is a safety feature to prevent overheating, common during dry-heat cooking. Turn off and cool down if food is nearly dry to avoid damage.
Error Code Guide:
ERROR CODE | PROBLEM | REMEDY |
---|---|---|
POT | No cookware detected, incompatible cookware, or cookware not centered on COOKWARE ALIGNMENT GUIDE. | Place cookware on top within 1 minute. Replace incompatible cookware. Move cookware within the GUIDE. Unit shuts down after 1 minute if no action is taken. |
E1 | Excessive high temperature, cooking fan malfunction, or inadequate ventilation. | Unplug cord. Ensure 4" ventilation. Wait 10 minutes for cool down, then plug back into a 120V outlet. Check fan operation. |
E2 | Sensor in normal operation, but surface temperature rises above approx. 518°F (270°C) (overheating protection). Usually happens during POWER MODE when cookware bottom is above 554°F (290°C). | This is a safety feature. Allow unit to cool down. Refer to E1 steps. |
E3 | Voltage input too high or too low; unit shuts down after 1 minute. | Unplug cord. Verify voltage is 110/120V AC. Use a different outlet with proper voltage if necessary. |
Note: If remedies fail, contact CustomerCare@thesecura.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are Induction cooktop advantages?
Instant and precise heat adjustment, up to 1800 watts power (approx. 50% more than gas), heats up nearly twice as fast as electric elements, uses standard 110/120V power.
Is induction cooking more efficient than gas?
Yes, induction is 83% efficient, compared to gas (30-35%). Induction costs approx. $0.12/hour, while gas costs approx. $1.65/hour.
How safe is induction cooking?
No open flame or hot cooking element. Heat is produced only within the cookware. The cooktop surface remains cool except for residual heat from the cookware.
What are the electrical power requirements?
Standard 110/120-volt outlet. A dedicated outlet is recommended as the unit draws about 15 amps.
What type of cookware can I use?
Cookware with a magnetic bottom (cast iron, iron, enameled steel/iron, magnetic stainless steel). If a magnet sticks, it works.
How is induction cooking different than electric cooking?
Induction directs electrical energy directly into cookware. Regular electric elements heat a resistance element first, then transfer heat via conduction. Induction is faster and more responsive.
Is it easy to use?
Yes, rapid heating makes cooking fast and easy. Cleaning is simple: no open flame or heating element means food doesn't burn on easily. Wipe with a damp towel.
