Troubleshooting Guide & Customer Service
If a problem persists after reviewing this guide, do not attempt to disassemble or repair the unit yourself. Contact CustomerCare@thesecura.com for assistance.
Common Problems:
- Problem: After pressing ON/OFF, indicator lights do not flash, and the COOL AIR FAN does not run.
- Possible Causes: Plug may be loose; circuit breaker may be inoperative or tripped.
- Problem: The fan is not running and cookware is not heating up.
- Possible Causes: Incompatible cookware (non-magnetic); pan not centered on the COOKWARE ALIGNMENT GUIDE; COOKTOP SURFACE may be cracked.
- Problem: The induction cooktop suddenly stops heating during operation and shuts down.
- Possible Causes: Overheating sensor detected excessive surface temperature (e.g., from heating empty cookware); blocked COOL AIR INLET & FAN or WARM AIR OUTLET; unit unplugged; fuse or circuit breaker tripped. (Do not plug other appliances into the same circuit while using the cooktop).
- Problem: In Power Mode, the cooktop stops heating when the surface temperature is too high but resumes when it drops, without changing the displayed power.
- Explanation: This is a safety feature to prevent overheating. It typically occurs during Power Mode when the cookware bottom exceeds 554°F (290°C). Overheating protection relates to abnormal use, such as frying food until nearly dry. Continuing to heat without adding liquid may damage cookware and the cooktop. It is advisable to turn off the unit, allow it to cool, and then restart. Be careful during dry-heat cooking to avoid extreme temperatures.
Error Code Guide:
ERROR CODE | PROBLEM | REMEDY |
---|---|---|
POT | No cookware detected, incompatible cookware detected, or cookware not centered on the COOKWARE ALIGNMENT GUIDE. | If no cookware, place cookware on top within 1 minute. If incompatible, replace with compatible cookware. If misaligned, move it within the GUIDE. Unit shuts down automatically after 1 minute if issues persist. |
E1 | Excessive high temperature, cooking fan malfunction, or inadequate ventilation for the cooktop. | Unplug the cord. Ensure proper ventilation (fan at least 4" from obstruction). Wait 10 minutes for the cooktop and cookware to cool down. Plug back into a 120V outlet. Turn on and listen for the fan. |
E2 | The sensor is in normal operation. When the surface temperature rises above approximately 518°F (270°C), the unit activates overheating protection. When the surface temperature rises above approximately 554°F (290°C), the unit displays E2 and shuts down automatically in one minute. | This is a safety feature to prevent the cooking surface from overheating, typically during POWER MODE. Extremely high temperatures could damage cookware and the cooktop. Allow the unit to cool down before using again. Refer to steps for E1. |
E3 | Voltage input is too high or too low, and the unit shuts down after 1 minute. | Unplug the cord. Verify the voltage is 110/120V AC. If not, switch to a different electrical outlet with the proper voltage level before operating. |
Note: If any of the above remedies fail to correct the problem, please contact CustomerCare@thesecura.com.
Commonly Asked Questions
What are induction cooktop advantages?
Induction cooktops offer instant heat adjustment and great precision. They use standard 110/120V power and produce up to 1800 watts, making them nearly 50% more powerful than gas stoves and heating up to twice as fast as electric elements, without requiring high amperage 220V power.
Is induction cooking more efficient than gas?
Yes, induction cooking is 83% energy efficient, compared to 30-35% for gas. An induction cooktop costs approximately $0.12 per hour to operate, versus $1.65 per hour for gas.
How safe is induction cooking?
There is no open flame or hot cooking element. Heat is produced directly within the cookware. The cooktop surface remains cool, except for residual heat transferred from the cookware.
What are the electrical power requirements?
Single burner induction units for household use operate on standard 110/120-volt outlets. It is recommended to dedicate an outlet for each unit, as they draw about 15 amps.
What type of cookware can I use?
If a magnet sticks to the bottom, it will work. Suitable materials include cast iron, iron, enameled iron, magnetic steel, and stainless steel with a magnetic bottom. Duxtop offers compatible cookware.
How is induction cooking different than electric cooking?
Induction units direct electrical energy into the cookware, creating heat there. Traditional electric elements heat the element first, then transfer heat via conduction. Induction cooking is faster and more responsive to temperature changes.
Is it easy to use?
Yes, the rapid heating makes cooking fast and easy for various tasks. Cleaning is simple; with no open flame or heating element, food does not burn on, allowing for easy wipe-down with a damp towel.
