For a Happier & Healthier Home!
Why You Need a Whole House Dehumidifier
Humidity is a critical factor in overall comfort, affecting the body's ability to regulate temperature. High humidity can make a home feel sticky and warm, even if the temperature is within the comfort range. Excess moisture also promotes the growth of mold, mildew, and dust mites, and can damage furnishings, fabrics, carpets, and wood.
While central air conditioning helps with temperature, it may not adequately dehumidify the home, especially during cooler or rainy days. This can lead to a cold, clammy feeling as the air holds less moisture. The Comfort-Aire WHD-130B whole house dehumidifier operates independently of the A/C, automatically starting when humidity levels are too high, ensuring consistent comfort without overcooling.
Unlike portable units that only treat a single room, the WHD-130B is integrated into the central A/C ductwork, dehumidifying the entire home. This is particularly important in modern, well-sealed homes where A/C systems run less frequently, potentially leaving excess moisture.
Key Benefits:
- ? Improves comfort level
- ? Protects the home and furnishings
- ?? Helps prevent the growth of mold and other contaminants
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) ❓
Why do I need a whole house dehumidifier if I have central air conditioning?
On cooler days, the A/C may not run long enough to effectively remove humidity. Homeowners might lower the thermostat, leading to a cold, clammy feeling. A whole house dehumidifier keeps you more comfortable and can save energy because your A/C won't have to run as often.
Can my home be too dry?
Yes. The WHD-130B features an automatic sampling sequence that controls the dehumidification process. You set your preferred humidity level, and the unit manages it automatically.
What's the best humidity level?
Most experts agree that the desirable range is between 40% and 60%. This range discourages the growth of mold, mildew, and dust mites.
Doesn't a portable dehumidifier do the same job and cost less?
Portable dehumidifiers remove moisture from only one room. A whole house dehumidifier, as the name implies, dehumidifies the entire home. Whole house units are typically quieter and do not require emptying a condensate bucket. Both types are viable options depending on your individual needs, including the size and location requiring dehumidification.

How the WHD-130B Works
Big 130-pint per day capacity dehumidifies the entire house!
? Automatic Operation: The unit's fan runs for 15 minutes every hour to sample the air and sense the humidity level. A sensor then activates the compressor if dehumidification is needed. Both the fan and compressor run until the desired humidity level is reached. If the room thermostat calls for heating or cooling, the dehumidifier pauses and resumes its cycle once the A/C or furnace stops and the temperature returns to the desired level.
? Optional Wall-Mounted Control: A thermostat-like dehumidistat can be mounted in the living area for convenient humidity control, eliminating trips to the basement or attic.
? Effective, Efficient Dehumidification: Moist air is drawn into the unit via the inlet duct and passes through a filter to remove airborne contaminants. It then flows over a cold evaporator coil, causing moisture to condense and drain away. The air is then warmed by the condenser coil before being discharged back into the living space. A thermostatic expansion valve ensures precise refrigeration control.
? Cleanable Filter: A permanent nylon mesh filter captures particulates and airborne dirt, improving indoor air quality. It is easily accessed from either side for cleaning.
❄️ Frost Control: If frost collects on the coil (during prolonged operation or very cool temperatures), an automatic defrost system turns off the compressor while the fan continues to run until the ice melts. Normal operation resumes afterward.
? Simple Installation using Existing Ductwork: The whole house dehumidifier is installed as part of the heating and air conditioning system, using insulated, flexible ducts to connect to the A/C duct system. It can be installed in new or existing structures, in basements, attics, or crawl spaces. It requires approximately 2 feet square of space and can sit on a flat surface using included rubber feet or be suspended with an optional hanger kit.
Power Supply: Standard 115V.
