C-more Operator Panels Overview
This document provides an overview of the C-more EA9 series operator panels from AutomationDirect, covering their features, specifications, connectivity options, and available accessories.
Getting Started
To successfully connect, configure, and send a project to a C-more panel, the following are required:
- A C-more HMI unit (available in 6in, 7in wide, 8in, 10in, 10in wide, 12in, 15in screen sizes, or the EA9-RHMI headless model).
- C-more Programming Software (p/n EA9-PGMSW).
- A C-more programming cable (USB or Ethernet).
- A 12-24 VDC switching power supply or the optional C-more AC Power Adapter (p/n EA-AC).
- A Personal Computer to run the C-more programming software.
- A PLC communications cable (serial or Ethernet) to connect the HMI to your controller.

*The backlight average lifetime is defined as the average usage time it takes before the brightness becomes 50% of the initial brightness. The lifetime of the backlight depends on the ambient temperature. The lifetime will decrease under low or high temperature usage.
**The touchscreen is designed to respond to a single touch. If it is touched at multiple points at the same time, an unexpected object may be activated.
C-more 7" TFT Color Touch Panel - Base Model (EA9-T7CL-R)
The C-more EA9 series touch screen interface panel, 7-inch color TFT (7.0 inch viewable screen), 64K colors, 800 x 480 pixel WVGA screen resolution, 800MHz CPU, 12-24 VDC powered, NEMA 4/4X, IP65 (when mounted correctly; for indoor use only)(not tested by UL), non-replaceable LED backlight. Includes (1) serial port, USB 2.0 Type A and B ports and Ethernet port; supports SD memory card. Compatible with EA9-PGMSW programming software version 6.3 or later.

C-more Communication Ports
The C-more panels offer various ports for communication and connectivity.
Ethernet Port
The Ethernet port provides connectivity for:
- Downloading programs to the panel.
- Communicating with PLCs/PCs.
- Sending e-mail notifications.
- Accessing an FTP server.
- Acting as a Web server.
- Remote Internet access.
The port is an RJ-45 8-wire modular connector with status LEDs: a yellow LED for network speed (off for 10 Mbps, on for 100 Mbps) and a green LED for link status (on when a link is established).
Note: The EA9-T6CL-R model does not include an Ethernet port.
USB Port B
This port is used for programming C-more panels via a USB connection. It offers a fast and simple setup without the need for baud rate, parity, or stop bit configurations. Standard USB cables are available. USB Port B allows uploading or downloading projects to and from a PC.
USB Port A
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) Port A is a standard feature on all models and supports various USB HID (Human Input Device) devices, including:
- USB flash drives (USB-FLASH)
- USB keyboards
- USB barcode scanners
- USB card scanners
Data can be logged to a USB flash drive, projects can be loaded from it, and project files/panel firmware can be backed up.
Sound Interface (Audio Line Out)
When connected to an amplifier and speakers, C-more panels can play warning sounds or pre-recorded messages (e.g., "conveyor is jammed"). The output supports WAV file types and is stereo.
Serial Port
- Port 1: Connects to serial controllers via a 15-pin D-sub female connector, supporting RS-232, RS-422/485.
- Port 2: Connects to RS-485 networks via a 3-wire removable terminal block.
- Port 3: Connects to RS-232C devices via an RJ12 connection.
Expansion Port
The expansion port supports the EA-ECOM module, providing a second Ethernet port for full-featured models.
HDMI Video Out
The EA9-T12CL and EA9-T15CL models include an HDMI Type A port for video output to a projector or remote monitor.

C-more Computer Programming Connections
The C-more EA9-PGMSW programming software facilitates project development. HMIs can be connected to a PC via USB or Ethernet.
USB Programming
- Connect a USB programming cable (e.g., USB-CBL-AB15) from a PC's USB Type-A port to the C-more HMI's USB Type-B programming port. This connection is for direct use only and does not support USB hubs.
Ethernet Programming
- Connect the C-more HMI to a PC using a Cat5 Ethernet cable via an Ethernet switch. This configuration allows multiple C-more HMIs to be programmed simultaneously.
Minimum System Requirements for C-more Programming Software (EA9-PGMSW):
- USB or Ethernet connection to the HMI (cables sold separately).
- Windows operating system (refer to automationdirect.com for specific OS requirements).
Security Note for Ethernet Access: When using remote access methods (web server, PC remote access, FTP, mobile apps), it is crucial to consider security exposure. Implement measures like password protection, network port management, and VPNs to minimize risks to your process and HMI. Security should be evaluated for each installation.

C-more AC/DC Power Adapter (EA-AC)
The optional C-more AC/DC Power Adapter (Part No. EA-AC) converts 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hertz input to 24 VDC @ 1.5 A for the touch panel's DC power connector. It can be secured with two captive screws.
The adapter provides a power loss signal to the touch panel, initiating a controlled shutdown for data logging reliability. It is not compatible with the EA9-RHMI.
