C-more Operator Panels Overview
AutomationDirect offers a comprehensive range of C-more operator panels designed for industrial automation. This document provides an overview of the C-more EA9 series touch screen HMIs and the EA9-RHMI headless HMI, detailing their features, specifications, and connectivity options.
Getting Started
Installing the software and configuring the C-more panel is straightforward. To connect, configure, and send a project to the panel, you will need the following:
- A C-more HMI unit (available in 6in, 7in wide, 8in, 10in, 10in wide, 12in, 15in, or EA9-RHMI models).
- C-more Programming Software (p/n EA9-PGMSW).
- A C-more programming cable (USB or Ethernet).
- A 12-24 VDC switching power supply or the optional C-more AC Power Adapter (p/n EA-AC).
- A Personal Computer to run the C-more programming software.
- A PLC communications cable (serial or Ethernet) to connect the C-more HMI to your controller.

C-more EA9-RHMI Communication Ports
The EA9-RHMI offers versatile communication options:
Ethernet Port
The Ethernet port supports 10/100 Base-T with Auto MDI/MDI-X. It is used for:
- Downloading programs to the panel.
- Communicating with PLCs/PCs.
- Sending e-mail.
- Accessing an FTP server.
- Acting as a Webserver (Secure HTTPs).
- Remote Internet access.
The port features an RJ-45 connector with green and yellow LEDs indicating link status and network speed.
USB Port B
Used for programming the C-more HMI via a USB connection. This method is fast and requires no baud rate settings, parity, or stop bits. USB Port B is also used for uploading or downloading projects to and from a PC.
USB Port A*
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) Port A connects to various USB HID devices, including:
- USB touchscreens (ELO™™ Single Touch Resistive/SAW, EETI eGalax Single Touch Resistive and pCap touchscreens).
- USB mouse.
- USB keyboard.
- USB flash drives (USB-FLASH).
- USB barcode scanner.
- USB card scanner.
C-more can log data to USB flash drives and load projects from them. It also supports backing up project files and panel firmware. A 500mA maximum current is available; a powered USB hub may be required for some devices.
Serial Port
Port 1: Connects to your serial controller network via a 15-pin D-sub port, supporting RS-232 or RS-422/485.
Port 2: Connects to your RS-485 network via a 3-wire removable terminal block.
HDMI Out Port
The EA9-RHMI includes an HDMI Type A port for video/audio output to a projector or remote monitor. Supported resolutions include:

Expansion Port

C-more Computer Programming Connections
The C-more Programming Software (EA9-PGMSW) can be used to develop projects and connect the HMI to a PC in several ways:
- USB Programming Cable: Connect a USB programming cable (e.g., USB-CBL-AB15) from a USB port type A on the PC to the USB type B programming port on the C-more HMI. This connection is for direct use only and does not support USB hubs.
- Ethernet Connection: Connect the C-more HMI to a PC with a Cat5 Ethernet cable via an Ethernet switch. Multiple C-more HMIs can be programmed in this configuration.
Minimum System Requirements for C-more Programming Software (EA9-PGMSW):
- USB or Ethernet connection to HMI (cables sold separately).
- Windows operating system (refer to automationdirect.com for specific requirements).
NOTE: Regarding Ethernet access to a C-more HMI: For remote access methods like Webserver (Secure HTTPs), PC remote access, FTP, iPhone or iPad app, consider security implications to minimize risks to your process and HMI. Security measures may include password protection, changing exposed ports, using a VPN, and other security evaluations.

EA-ECOM Communication Expansion Module
The EA-ECOM module adds an Ethernet (RJ45) port for programming and PLC communications at 10/100 Mbps. It is compatible with EA3 series C-more Micro 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch panels, as well as most C-more panels. C-more Micro Software and firmware version 4.0 or later, and C-more Software and firmware version 6.50 or later, are required.
